The Europa League 2017/18(Use the SF thread to discuss the current match)

Oh this is glorious. Salzburg coach is a former Tuchel assistant from Mainz.:lol:

Btw that guy needs to be on the radar of some bigger teams *cough * Dortmund *cough*. Won Youth CL with Salzburg and has lost once in 45 games as head coach of Salzburg.

In fairness, the youth side that won it was a very good side. Haidara, wolf, berisha and mensah are all very good players along with others. They benefit from all playing for Liefering (Red bulls first feeder team, their second is ask anif) they get experience playing week in week out together in a competitive league (second tier). Without diminishing the achievement too much, it wouldn't take much of a manager to have that side winning it, or at least coming close. Also Chelsea weren't in it either (and they'd probably have beaten Salz)

Be interesting to see how he gets on with a better side though. Salzburg for years have been a dark horse but constantly failed to even qualify for the CL, that's the next step.

Too early to say Arsenal can win the Europa. Leipzig, Lazio and Atletico are more than capable of dumping them out. But this win should give them hope.

It will be too weird if the Red Bull sides play against each other.

My favorite energy drink. Which Red Bull do I root for?

I watched them only twice and it was in Europa league and have to say I was very impressed with how he set up the team. They pressed Dortmund so high and didn't give much chances. Very much impressed with their work rate.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but apparently a Marseille fan stabbed a guard in the neck at the Bilbao clash.

Shame to see Lyon out but they didn't have the best of chances with Fekir missing both legs. Golovin, though

At least Lazio are through! They are such a fun team to watch. Luis Alberto playing in a deeper role is brilliant - he really dictates the game. With F.Anderson back and looking good, I have no idea how they'll fit L.Alberto, Savic and F.Anderson all together because Lucas and Parolo have been excellent this season, too.

The amount of misses Immobile had last night gave me flashbacks of Zlatan last year. He's a bit like Cavani in that he misses a lot of chances but gets so much service that it doesn't matter.

Also, well played to Arsenal. Easily disposing of a Milan team that I thought would've caused them some trouble.

I remember Kaka absolutely destroying United the year before (not even an exaggeration to say, I think).
He did, but, to be fair, we had a makeshift defense in our home game if I recall.

Are you betting on Chelsea to win the Youth League in an all English final? Looking at Chelsea's side that won in the semis, if you add Hudson Odoi to that I think it is the best youth side Chelsea have had.

I bet them the last couple of rounds, will need to see prices if they get city in the final. I'd have Chelsea as favourites though. Foden and Diaz have both played 3 cl games for the first team so are now ineligible for the Youth competition.

I'd agree it's Chelsea best youth side, even without Odoi it can compete with Europe's best. I'd imagine Odoi will play in the next game, think he went to Barcelona in case he was needed as a sub. We usually prioritise the Youth comps (something I was surprised city didn't do, pointless minutes against Basel isn't as valuable as playing Youth league for me).

Barcelona side is okay this year as well, think they'll give either English side a decent game.

To make it clear: i meant the last 8 of an european competition and i wasn't celebrating because i know teams like Atletico and Lazio are better than us.

Not a bad draw for Arsenal

Leipzig - O. Marseille

Arsenal - CSKA Moskva

Atletico Madrid - Sporting CP

Lazio - RB Salzburg

So hang on Aubameyang is cup tied for a competition due to not playing his old team....even though they've now been knocked out.

Uefa is nuts.
The cup tied thing has nothing to do with not playing against the former club.

Marseille will probably be the end for Leipzig. Still not a bad tournament from them.

When Liverpool are eliminated in the CL do you think Couthinho should then be eligible for Barca
It's not quite the same as of course BVB dropped down from CL to EL, and hadn't played in the competition yet before Aubameyang made the move. Still, UEFA rules are explicit on this case, as odd as it seems.

Don't really have an issue with it.

If the rule is seemingly to stop players playing their parent clubs (I assume this was introduced after the infamous Morientes goal against Real Madrid) then no problem with players being available once that club has been knocked out.

It's unfair on the player imo particularly when you have Alexis who played games for Arsenal in the europa and can also play in the champions league as he did when he moved.

The European games I'm actually looking forward to begin tonight. Arsenal/Moscow & Lazio/Salzburg are the two standout games for me. Looking forward to seeing Golovin against Arsenal and, hopefully, Lazio winning. I want Arsenal/Lazio in the semis.

Need a good lead without conceding today. Hopefully Laca starts and not that bloody donkey Welbeck.

Our best line-up!

1-0 down after 20 seconds... I thought this was going to be bad but I wasn't expecting this

Fans are going into a game with 0 expectations and they still get disappointed. At this point I don't know if the better result for us isn't losing by as many as possible so the manager gets fired

Some Freekicks are in such a perfect position they are almost like penalties. Great free kick there.
