The Europa League 2017/18(Use the SF thread to discuss the current match)

What are we looking at here? goalkeeping error aside and very very soft penalty call and it's 1-0 Milan. Milan have been better this game, in general. Overall, as a squad, they're not as good as Arsenal, however, they're a darn slight better than they were prior to Gattuso coming in. What needs to happen is for Gattuso to get a transfer summer under him so he can go and get the players for his system. Currently, he's inherited Montella's boys and the squad looks quite imbalanced for it. I do like Kessie, though.

Milan are a real shadow of the former selves. What has happened to this once great team? Financial issues or what?

Kessie's ambition is to play for United.

The level of quality in this game though... you'd think you were watching a championship or league one game.

They have had much lower points than this these last few years.
Has there been a proper inquest into the reasons of this decline? I mean they are a European giant. 7 CL titles the most of any club apart from Madrid. How have their fans accepted this? Are they content with how it is now or do they still have hopes of returning to the glory days? Surely they can't be happy right now.

We have finally reached the last 8 for the first time since 2010. It was an odd game. Milan looked good, but we had the best chances. Clearly, that dive from Welbeck changed the whole because going 1-0 down at HT would have been terrible.

There was a lot issues with the ownership. Even during that last Scudetto win you started to see some real penny pinching.

Stöger is like a shit Mourinho, has Dortmund look like a poor man's United.

Oh this is glorious. Salzburg coach is a former Tuchel assistant from Mainz.:lol:

Btw that guy needs to be on the radar of some bigger teams *cough * Dortmund *cough*. Won Youth CL with Salzburg and has lost once in 45 games as head coach of Salzburg.

in the end they won comfortably but the awful decision by the referee on that dive weighed a lot on the game. Really incredible how is it possible to get such a poor referee at this level.

His assistant Rene Maric is a great follow on Twitter and runs the tactics website Spielvrlagerung.

I hope Arsenal win the Europa League. It will really wind up the Spurs fans AND Wenger will get a 5 year contract extension

So we have:

Atletico Madrid
Arsenal
CSKA Moscow
Lazio
Leipzig
Olympique Marseille
Salzburg
Sporting CP

8 clubs from 8 different countries.

Alexander Zickler was on the bench of Salzburg, too. Won the CL league with Bayern in 2001 (...and lost it in 99). He was youth coach there but is now assistant coach.

Great fun tonight - sat directly above the Milan fans. No-one had any idea what they were singing at the end but it sounded close enough to Ospina that we could all join in. I hope he noticed the serenade.

I for one unlike most Sporting fans want to face CSKA as we have unfinished business with them. Not in the quarter finals though but rather in the final !. As for the upcoming draw my opinion is to be the best you have to beat the best BUT I would rather want to avoid Atletico or Salzburg as they have been in great form recently.

An Austrian side is feared in Europe. What a time to be alive:eek:

Now don’t get me wrong. I absolutely detest them. But still, quite an achievement for RBS.
