The Culture Wars

Actress Susan Sarandon's twitter feed is interesting. Some good stuff here and there but then she's also retweeting Max Blumenthal, Grayzone editor. Seems like she's gone very far to the left.

MEN…

Clubs gone too far to the left!

I genuinely do not understand why anyone in places like this would ever want to become a teacher. Or why they stay. I'm sure there are many good schools in the US where teachers are treated with respect by their employers, but there are too many of these stories.

It's probably hard to get jobs at really good schools and it's probably down to who you know

Grim. The US needs a general strike of teachers. It's never going to happen, and so teachers are going to keep being treated like this.

What’s the issue with Anne Frank?

What’s the issue with Anne Frank?

Per a report from KFDM, a spokesperson for Hamshire-Fannett ISD, located south of Beaumont, released a statement confirming the teacher was sent home on Wednesday after reading a passage from Anne Frank's Diary: The Graphic Adaptation in which Frank wrote about male and female genitalia.

Parents thinking this is unsuitable for 8th graders is a sad indictment of parenting culture in the US.

I don't know if it's the same section, but I know she also wrote about liking girls. That part was edited out by her dad when it was originally released, but it was there to begin with.

Jfc. Unbelievable.

Don't want to hurt the sensibilities of growing white supremacists, I guess.

I didn't quite know which thread to put this in but I remember this being a culture war topic in right wing circles. They said that the "woke left" were now arguing that "math is racist" and new policies are needed. Ofcourse, California is at the center of it.

When California released a revised draft of the math framework last year, I decided someone should read the whole thing, so I dove in. Sometimes, as I pored over the CMF, I could scarcely believe what I was reading. The document cited research that hadn’t been peer-reviewed; justified sweeping generalizations by referencing small, tightly focused studies or even unrelated research; and described some papers as reaching nearly the opposite conclusions from what they actually say.

The document tried hard to convince readers that it was based on a serious reading of neuroscience research. The first chapter, for example, cited two articles to claim that “the highest achieving people have more interconnected brains,” implying that this has something to do with learning math. But neither paper says anything about math education.

The NBC article doesn't seem to explain what is meant by "prioritize"?

Is this any different from sports players, clubs and organizations putting out statements? And should we separate politics from other sectors of society?

Oregon again says students don’t need to prove mastery of reading, writing or math to graduate, citing harm to students of color

Oregon high school students won’t have to prove basic mastery of reading, writing or math to graduate from high school until at least 2029, the state Board of Education decided unanimously on Thursday, extending the pause on the controversial graduation requirement that began in 2020.

South American Trans women who are members of Hamas are coming to the USA to destroy women sports.

Perfect example of the insanity of this ''culture war '' shite.

Meanwhile a woke win in England:

Team woke got about 85k votes, their opponents about 45k. All voters are Nation Trust members meaning they pay a subscription or they're volunteers who spend a lot of time looking after various national monuments, buildings (mostly big country houses) and land that has been given to them (often in lieu of a tax debt).

Not the most radical sounding mob - but guilty of terrible sins like mentioning the slave trade, colonialism, wildlife preservation, global warming etc in the tour guides for the stuff they look after.

Just for context - the losing side were another part of the Tufton Street campaign gang - with people like Farage and this guy as campaign figureheads:

How shit at design do you have to be not to drop the 'why I' down to the next line? Glad they lost again.

Woke elitists not even caring how much we'll all have to spend to widen our chimneys so black disabled Santa can get his wheelchair down.

Having exited Twitter a while back I’m blissfully ignorant about the whole 15 minute city thing. What are the right wing whining about here. They want to fight back against the tyranny of… a good transport network?

Not even, just against urban planning that would put most services within a 15 minute walk, bike ride or public transportation trip. They want to take away your right to drive an hour to get to Costco or Ikea so they can bomb you to death later.

Jaysus. That’s quite something.

The State controlling every aspect of your lives, and banning cars, and preventing you from leaving your place of abode. As logical as those Americans who claimed Obamacare would lead to 'death panels' for healthy adults. The conspiracy theorists are jumping on this as some kind of deep state plan.

If a city is walkable, and things are within reach, it means that cars are less necessary to get toilet paper or whatever, this will mean the World Economic Forum will ban cars, silo people into zones within cities, and eventually you will need a permit to go outside your house. The pandemic was a dress rehearsal, next time global warming will be the pretext.
The way to fight against this is to make sure your city is miserable, spread out, and a hazard to pedestrians.
