The Culture Wars

Guys who use the expressions "train my wife" or "train my girlfriend" should be pushed off a cliff.

Nothing wrong with swinging if that's what they're into.

The algorithms aren’t that clever. They take whatever you’re interested in and give you more of the same. If you’re into right wing vloggers that’s the direction it will take you. If you’re more interested in left wing politics you’ll be dragged further and further left.

My youtube recommendations are a train wreck because my 11 year old son uses the same log-in. Chaotic mish mash of Fortnite, Fall Guys, bouldering, FUT and kayak fishing. Not even a hint of Jordan Peterson.

EDIT: And F2 Freestylers, so much F2 Freestylers (they’re actually very watchable, check them out)

I don't know about that. My algorithm is way way to the right of me.

There is no left equivalent of Tate, Peterson et al.

The left is boring. It's tediously longwinded, and that's been a problem way before the short form beloved of the internet.

The left just isn't sensational.

This is in no way to say that this is equivalent to Tate or Peterson, but there are definitely non-boring leftist voices out there. Behind the Bastards for example.

Ah, so my algorithm is not left but boring left. Figures.

I must check them out. Do they have a wide appeal though? The right can be easy accessed with no background. I'm not sure the left can do that. Even if it's snappy, you often need a bit of a framework to engage?

The culture war is mostly the right v liberals. Not the actual left?

I guess I can't argue with that. You have to not be a complete idiot to enjoy it. There's some actual leftist stakes in the culture war, though. The left was always a driver of gender equality, for example.

Oh yeah, I agree. It's broadly the left. But more the Guardian than the Jacobin Magazine?

Woah. Three year old post. I’m pleased to report that despite being now 14, my son has not yet tainted my algorithm with any Peterson/Tate content, despite being right in the crosshairs, in terms of demographics. Probably helps that we now watch bouldering videos together. So YouTube has doubled down on all that content. The only risk now is Magnus Midtbö deciding to become an incel.

EDIT: Midtbø. So close!

So this is doing the rounds on right-wing twitter, but is there an explanation for this?

I almost never understand your posts.

It's uncanny isn't it? Nothing at all against @berbatrick, but most of the time I see a post, it's like half the words don't actually mean the same thing that they do in the English language.

I think you have to be a permanent resident of the seventh circle of twitter culture war hell to even be able to decipher some of this stuff.

Seems to be a database error. Either the photos are accidentally linked to the record that are "white non Hispanic" or the record for race is corrupted by a backend change where the entry for "black" has been altered accidentally to replace table data.

I seriously doubt Texas of all places is actively "keeping the myth of white supremacy alive"

It could be as simple as someone accidentally doing a "find and replace"
