The Criteria Draft - The Drafts

I was so certain Lizarazu was the best pick for the 90-99 caps, but apparently not even close with Ronaldinho there.

That's a decent shout. It could more of a 3-4-2-1 with Litmanen supporting and Di Maria roaming / bolstering the light midfield as necessary.

That looks a better bet. With the 3-4-1-2, I felt it would either put Di Maria as a slightly unnatural playmaker, or else too far up the pitch as part of the top 2. 3-4-2-1 looks the better option.

Thanks guys. Putting Arteta/Gattuso together was my first choice, but I was trying to see if things can fit any better.

This one any improvement?

Nah, Gattuso absolutely has to play imo. Gio is spot on imo. 3-4-2-1 with

--------------------Suarez-----------
-------------Litmanen--Di Maria-------
Carlos-----Arteta----Gattuso---Maicon

ahead of your defence. Cazorla is a bit redundant in this company and your defence needs the extra man in there. This formation gives you scope to argue that you're using Litmanen and Di Maria proerly too.

Not even a 5-3-2 like this?

Aye, that looks extremely similar to me, with the advantage of more clearly defined roles for Di Maria and Litmanen. I stand corrected, that's probably the way to go. Its all probably irrelevant details at this point, but I'd probably sit Arteta back a tad just to indicate that he's your holding playmaker, with di Maria and Gattuso doing their thing a bit further up the pitch.

Game, Set and Match for Annah it seems who not only matched it, but topped it.

I was stunned no one picked Marcos, no brainer. The other chap was a far better pick though, that's if you were willing to trade Mihajlovic for a sheep, obviously. I would.

Don't ever name that player, he is best if he is forgotten rapidly. :(

BTW, just in case you haven't noticed, WC-winning Marcos is both a non-Euro and <30 caps player.

Yes and I will pretend that I knew all along and chose someone else or that you are just making stuff up. Balu will pull me through this.

But Balu knows... or at least must know, surely... and there's no way he wants any part in this anyway.

I pick Michael Vorm, who never played in Europe I believe.

I'll update the full list soon, but I can say this for now:

Vorm - never played in Europe
Valdes - under 30 caps
Lahm - 1 club 10 years
Hyypia - never won a league title
De Boer & Cocu - together..
Zambrotta - 90-99 caps
Sammer - Ballon D'or
Modric - 3 nations
Messi - WC finalist never won
Kanchelskis - Born in Ukraine played for Russia
Eto'o - outside 30 nations.

Once I've gone through everyone's picks I'll list the people who need a sheep (of which I'll be one)

You'll give them sheep or let them pick under that criterion again?

Are unpicked players now out of the pool? i.e. can we start reminiscing over the totally random players that fit some of the criteria?

Aye, we will remove any players who are unpicked from the pool.

Also, I haven't decided about repicking/sheep yet.
