@Edgar Allan Pillow you have two picks!

Thought Rivaldo would go next! Great pick IMO, he was actually the other player I suggested. Amazing peak and carried Barca at times, but he seems really underrated on here compared to Zidane and Ronaldinho. Even in that '02 WC he seems to have been minimised compared to the other two, when he was probably the best of the three.

Indeed. Although I think he has been in teams that last long at times, remember Gio having him in the sheep draft, I think. Anyway I think given this timeline, Messi and Ronaldo might just prove a bit too heavy an advantage to overcome, unless they are in some unbalanced teams. Let's see.

 No way he would have lasted that long.

Do you mean C.Ronaldo? If so I agree. He would actually have been my number 1 pick probably, due to the lack of wingers.

I'm really surprised he went 5th. Good thing about Rivaldo is you can play him left or central, big bonus. I had him in a draft though and he didn't get the credit he should have IMO - but that just means you have to sell him well/talk about how good he was well, which is the best part of these drafts. Talking about the players.

Yeah, Cristiano. He would have been my first pick as well. Messi has a few "haters" in here, and Cristiano is a caf favourite, and I've seen people being repulsive to tiki taka as well which is what you need to sell Messi. So in terms of votes IMO Cristiano is greater.

The deadly defenders are here! Say hello to the dynamic Brazilian duo of Roberto Carlos and Cafu

Complying with Criteria 8&9. "8 & 9. 2 players who have represented the same club for at least 2 full seasons but never won a trophy together. However, they must both have won a league title in another country."

Both have played for Palmeiras for more than 2 seasons. Roberto Carlos (1993, 94, 95) Cafu (1995, 96, 97). The only overlapping year is 1995 in which Palmeiras did not win anything. Both have won League titles in another country, Carlos at Real Madrid and Cafu with Milan.

Has to be two seasons in a row, together, without winning the league - right, @rpitroda?

He is a bit underrated here so was hoping :(

That said - both Cafu and Carlos meet at least two different individual criteria, so EAP's choice is legit per se.

The question is whether he wants this to stand, given that they don't - as far as I can see - meet the crucial 8 & 9.

Sorry @Edgar Allan Pillow they have to be there for the 2 seasons together.

You can of course still keep the picks as they both qualify for other criterion, but won't meet 8&9. Given the circumstance, you're welcome to change your picks if necessary b

As far as I can tell Cafu only played ONE season for Palmeiras anyway - ain't that so?

He went there in 1996 - after Carlos had left. Unless wiki is wrong (which it could be - it's not great for some stats).

There is some confusion there, in the top right corner it says 96-97 and at the bottom it says 95-97.

Yes...needs further research. He only has 35 appearances for them - which sounds very low for three seasons. But he finished the '95 season for Zaragosa, that's clear enough. Which means that a year seems to be missing - if he did indeed join Palmeras in '96. That can't be right.

But at any rate Carlos was done at Palmeiras in '95. He began the 95-96 season with Inter - so I don't see how the two of them could've been at Palmeiras together, regardless - lest it was for some weeks during the summer of '95.

Something is fishy about those dates, I tells ya. We better ring up Cafu and ask him - I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

It almost looks as though he was out injured - whilst being in-between contracts - for a whole year. Can't remember that he was - and it's not mentioned anywhere I can see.

But feck knows. I remember there was considerable hype surrounding him at the time when he came to Spain - and that it all sort of fizzled out until he reappeared at Roma.

Also, with regards to never played in Europe and played under 30 CAPs, are people really struggling here? I know I am lol.

Doing research for the former category is a pain in the arse, that's for sure.

Think I've found something, though. But then, when to strike? That's the question. You can always hope nobody else is on that track - and wait. But then, some bastard may get the same idea at any time.

OK, 2nd attempt:

Roberto Carlos & David Beckham

- Played together for Real Madrid in 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons without winning any trophy. They individually have won the league in another country with Palmeiras (Brazil) and Manchester United (England) respectively.

Not bad at all. Many could - nay, will - end up with far worse pairs than that.
