The Criteria Draft - The Drafts

97 Caps and never won the league

But you are shoehorning Messi to the wing, capable yes, but not his best position, it has worked against many people before.
The thing is, Messi as the false 9 is a bit boring. We want to create a counter attacking team using messi, and a false 9 isn't suited for it. The minute all of Scholes-Xavi-Iniesta went we didn't want to try and create the same old tiki taka these drafts tend to do. I want to make it a real fantasy one. Messi has every attribute in the world to succeed as a right inside forward and he has done it, and in a counter attacking team with the right base behind him I'm sure he will, the tiki taka imo didn't come to Barca to get the best of Messi, but Messi thrived under it. I'm sure if Messi was playing in RM instead of Ronaldo there wouldn't have been an attempt to make a possession team but still a fast moving forward team. Barca's counters are deadly mostly because of Messi's on the ball skills and speed, so if we place him with other quick attackers and a player like Sammer to kick-start these attacks it would be deadly.
And we went for a full back like Lahm so early so Messi won't need to track back. Lahm is able to face any attacker, he's a real all time legend, both attacking and defending, that will give Messi both the ability to cut inside and be the free role as much as he wants because Lahm will create the width, and won't need to defend thanks to Lahm's defending. I don't think any team can have a full back roaming too much forward with Messi in a counter attacking team at the right

I don't think there's ever been a draft where so many expletives have been used against opposition drafters :P. And rightly so, Cutch literally fecked my entire team =[.

@Cutch taking De Rossi was like a little kid having a secret hiding spot with his favourite bow and arrow, only to realise not only did everyone know about it, but they burnt it down.

Thomas Hassler
Never won the league, but did manage to star during Germany's 1990 World Cup win and their 1996 European Cup.

Hassler also finished 3rd in Ballon d'or voting. #shinfo

I'm on an iPad and thus not arsing about with the list but we pick Giuseppe Signori.

Less than 30 caps, won feck all. Absolute demon of a player. Makes no sense.

Oh you can suck my testicles, you absolute feck!

Looks like the research came to fruition.

I damn near took him in round 3. I figured he and Gerrard were by far the class of the never won the league criteria, though there are a lot of solid B+ footballers in the criteria so it's not a bad one to have left around later, I guess.

Messi is best on the wing, by the way. As a wide-ish, hell raisin', goal scorin' pseudo-winger of some kind.

False nine? Yeah, sure. If you don't have the personnel. But he's not as good as a false nine as he is - nay, was, the past tense is probably permanent - as the false wide man. Because that's what he was. False in the sense that the real threat was out wide (ish). Only Garrincha himself has anything on him in that - false wide man - role.

In the middle he scored shite loads, yes, yes - but nobody who knows anything is really, I mean really impressed by that. Not "really" as in "Maradona". Which seems to be the thing he struggles with.

Which team looks the best for you thus far?
For me it's either:
MJJ
Aldo
NM/Snow
Paceme

But the beauty of this draft is that if you get one tough criteria saved for too late you get in serious trouble and everything can quickly change
