The Criteria Draft - The Drafts

Ok i might as well pose the question. What is the deal with the Catalonia National team ?

Not recognized by either FIFA or UEFA - so...basically, doesn't count in this context (for the criteria we're dealing with).

Can you do trades after round 1, say if X beat a team with Maradonna, and Y beat a team that had Beckenbauer, could they agree that they would each pick those players and then swap?

Cool, i thought i might as well get it out there having picked Xavi.

It's on par with teams comprised of players defined (or who define themselves) as indigenous in one way or another - you have a Basque team, a Native American team (I think), a team for the Sami population of the Nordic countries - and so forth. None of 'em have FIFA status - unlike Scotland or Wales.

A large portion of the inhabitants in Catalunya wants to be independent and don't consider themselves Spanish but Catalan.

Yep i aware of this it's just that Xavi actually represented Catalonia 10 times before he was capped for Spain so i was wondering i he may of counted towards being born in another country criteria because i don't really know all the official FIFA rules surrounding it.

Would be able to field a decent team - as would the Basque.

I get your point but not everybody who lives in Catalunya would play for a Catalan national team as a large portion are Spanish people who moved there.

So it is difficult to say how it would turn out in reality with all the people who would choose the Spanish NT above them.

I'll pick very soon. Just hashing things out with my European and Asian scouts, who almost walked out after I took Baggio.

@rpitroda

I would suggest an amendment to the OP along these lines:

A player eligible for this draft is recognized as having won a trophy (league or cup, domestic or international) ONLY if said player played (was officially a member of the club's squad) for the FULL season in which the trophy was won, i.e. from autumn of year X to spring of year Y. Amount of matches played is irrelevant, as are the awarding criteria applicable to particular federations.

This would also mean that Player X, who featured officially for Club Y from August 200? to June 200? will be counted as having won any trophy the club won during this period, regardless of whether the federation in question recognizes him as a winner or not.

Done.

Aye, true. It's all hypothetical anyway. But in the event that they became an independent state, with a national team recognized by FIFA, they could sport a pretty decent side.

Where you from, Annah - just out of interest? Never thought to ask before and if you prefer to keep it under wraps I understand. I like a total cloak of anonymity myself.

You is gambling now, man - or?

I looked at him, obviously, but he's a tough one to fit. It's the combo - but who's the other one? Or am I missing something?

When we picked up Sammer he was supposed to come with him as the partner for 8-9 combo, but damn the rule he had to win the trophy in a different country ruined my plans. Missed that small but critical line

Go hard or go home!

Damn right. I like it.

And - gambling on the combo may not be as hazardous as one might think. People are building teams here - the instinct isn't to block someone else. You have a sub to spare - but at what point can you actually spare him in order to, simply block someone else's pick - i.e. picking the player you know he wants just to feck him up, when said player ain't suitable for your own ideas?

Beauty of the format, really.

Oh, I do - I love it. I just hope it turns out the way I want it to, i.e. that several managers will find themselves forced to field anything but glamorous players here and there.

On that note - and a propos Cutch's pick...the good old 8 & 9...can you simply bench one of those players? It seems so. If you have all other bases covered, you can bench the no-mark in the combo and laugh all the way to the...well, not the final, necessarily, 'cause you'd still be stuck with the two as a pair. But still. You could pick a world beater and the worst ever clown he ever played with - and just bench the clown.

You could but how many world beaters will you find with under 30 national caps, haven't won the league, or haven't played in Europe?

Also the ballon d or category is losing players fast.

Yes - no doubt. And that's the thing. You can gamble on a no-mark - for one category. But you need to know what the hell you're doing.

Not least since it will be potentially very hard to make trades. Since the combo takes away at least one of your starters - so trading one starter for another who also meets the combo criterion (with the dud as the other component) will be damn near impossible.
