I still maintain the mistake was by raising the banner in the first place before Moyes earned it. I don't think ripping it will correct the mistake, in fact I think it will complicate it and embarrass us a bit as a club.

There is only one way to correct it, which is by sacking Moyes and then getting it removed, not the other way around.

Yep. It's a catch 22 now. If it's removed it's a death-knell rung by the fans.

The sentiment behind it was nice, but it was always a stupid idea.

It'd do more damage taking it down. It shouldn't have been put up in the first place, it was a petty dig at Mourinho and the people who put it up have come out looking like morons, we're stuck with it now.

Quick question, why couldn't we have just had one of those big flags with "the chosen one" written on it, covering the crowd in the stretford end before the Chelsea game in August? Like instead of this?

Would that not have been simpler? Moyes gets his moment, the petty dig is delivered to Mourinho and we are not left in this situation

What further damage would it do to take it down now?

Just take it down. The Glazers and board have 'made it clear' that they support Moyes regardless. You think a banner will change their mind? Adjust their bank accounts by not tickets and you might see action...

Well Moyes isn't to be sacked, the club's strategy hasn't changed, Moyes is their man and they're sticking with him. Taking the banner down will further lower morale.

Don't think morale could get any lower to be honest. Even if Moyes remains at the club, I doubt taking the banner down would have any impact from the players point of view. I'm sure they like the club realise already that Moyes isn't well liked.

It took 6 pages. Pre google era it would have been one of the first replies. .

I was just thinking the same, "not a single reference to Tufty?!"

Edit: Oh, and taking it down would be fucking spasticated. He's the manager. Support him.

We'll have Ferguson's statue toppled à la Saddam Hussein next.

Attacking the stewards and burning the stadium to the ground? I second this movement. Total anarchy.

I don't imagine removing a bit of fancy heavy duty material will effect morale as much as getting hammered by your closest rivals....

I honestly don't see how taking down the banner would affect things, the damage is already done. We'd look like a joke no matter the decision taken.

My thoughts exactly Danny, it would be a huge mistake to rip it down whilst he's still the manager of this club.

I don't get people, sometimes. Most people here are heavily in favour of getting rid of Moyes as soon as possible, but taking down a banner and indirectly show that we want him gone? Oh heavens no, it would make us a laughing stock.

If removing the banner gets the board closer to sacking him or himself closer to resigning, then I am for it. It's not keeping the foundations of the club up; it's just a slightly silly banner that should never have been put up in the first place.

Tear it down. Maybe people will start getting the message that things have to change.

The only way he will be gone is if the matchgoing fans turn massively against him and force the Glazers hand.

And I want him gone.

How the hell is it embarrassing to show that you are not longer in favour of the current manager being in charge by removing a stupid banner that shouldnt have been there in the first place?

Every time I read this thread I picture King Theoden in LOTR screaming "bring it down, bring it down."

I can just imagine the whole of OT chanting it now. Lovely.

There's no 'Eboue' option therefore I shall not vote.

This thread is gonna be absolute classic in 5-10 years and mods will tag it as 'sticky' for the decades to come.

Bet on that shit.
