The big summer clear out & the funds raised.

Most likely we strughle to sell players as usual. Except Greenwood, funny enough
Players who we can sell easily and for big money (Bruno, Dalot, Mainoo, Garnacho, Rashford and Lisandro) are not for sale.
Players bought last year who have good value on the market (Onana, Mount, Hojlund) are not for sale.
We don't want to sell McT, Lindelof and Maguire because Erik wants/needs depth.
We can't afford to sell Shaw because we are short on left back position.
We can't sell Malacia because he doesn't exist anymore.

So, who is left? Sancho, Antony, AWB, Eriksen, Greenwood and Diallo.

Real seems to do well with players they want out

McT for a good valuation since he came through the academy and is good for our coefficients. Slabhead once he's had a good world cup - oh wait.
Both had decent prices last summer. It was United who thought they can sell for double

I wish we had INEOS before we signed Antony and Mount...

Up to 100m if we are smart, for Case, Greenwood, Sancho. Keep Maguire, McT. Few more, incl. Williams and Eriksen will be away.

Pellistri, van de Beek, Bayindir (?)

I genuinely think, we'd be much better off just not spending this summer. Maybe a nominal 30m budget funded with out goings. Get some free transfers, youth prospects etc and then making sure we're out of the FFP mess for good next season.

Because they are ruthless. We are not.
You can't sell players that do not wish to take a pay cut and are happy to see out their contracts. Unless United are willing to do a Hazard and pay them out they will remain. For United there is no benefit to paying out a player, then being unable to replace them as we're skint.

You might not be too far off the mark if a 50m budget rumour is to be believed

Yeah, I doubt they leave if RM tells them they are key for their future
They won everything there was to win multiple times with Madrid. Varane even won the WC. They wanted a new challenge and huge bags of money, which Madrid were unwilling to pay them. Varane actually rejected a contract extension. What happened was a desperare moneybag club showed up offering them outrageous sums of money and the willingness to properly compensate Madrid for them, so they were sold - as was their preference

Apparently Juventus, of all clubs, have lost all touch with reality and are willing to pay you big money for Greenwood, of all players, so you might even be able to pull off a major coup this summer - getting rid of a guy you must get rid of while getting compensated instead of having to pay someone to take him off your hands - although the whole thing screams fake at the moment, but I guess we'll see. Should you develop a sudden interest for Chiesa or Soulé I wouldn't be surprised...

Those arguments although highly merited, disregard the fact that team finished 8th with a negative GD and the club had clear weaknesses in Defence, midfield and attacking positions it’s fair to say that if 3 players minimum are going out in each area ; Defence - R Varane, B Williams, A Fernandez, Potentially B Lindelof and AwB
Midfield - S Amrabat, Casemiro, DVB and potentially C Erikssen and Hannibal
Attack - A Martial, O Forson, Sancho, M Greenwood abd F Pellistri.

Assume that 80% of those players are released, sold or loaned out that means the club needs a minimum of 6 new players in, ideally 7 or 8.

unless we are doing 3 or 4 loans you can’t bring in 6 or 7 for £50m and that’s the catch 22, if we are not successful on the field the club will not be successful off the field next season too.

My guess is Ineos have set aside £100m available for transfers plus what we recoup in player sales. So far we have £5m in from Alvero Fernandez however we’ve saved about £770k per week plus the reduced wages everyone will take for being in Europa League this season

They might want another £120-150m in player sales and end up with £80m maximum but add another £20m due to huge savings in wages.

I have a feeling we will end up with something like this; Todibo(loan), Branthwaite (58m), M Kerkez (25m), Wesley Foffana(27m), M Olise (60m), Maximilian B or Joshua Zirkzee(30m), Amrabat resigned (15m),

Todibo will be a loan with an obligation to buy well end up spending about £120m net as money will be made available after the review.

Maybe in Football Manager but in real life it would be 4-5 max. Extremely rare to bring in more than 5 in a window.

That would be a very good window in my book

Those midfield signings are shit.

Didn’t Swiss ramble say we should, even without selling, have a decent budget this summer? We’ve also supposedly just offered £45m for braithwate so you’d hope we have more than £50m!

I have my doubts. United have only brought in £80m in sales once in like 15 years when we sold Lukaku and in the majority of those seasons we brought in about £25m. A few seasons we brought in £10m and had a couple of <£5m seasons. The only other season that got above £50m in sales was the Di Maria one. That's since Ronaldo was sold. Even in that season we didn't get £100m in sales, though that's probably going too far back as transfers have increased a lot on average since.

Hopefully things change with the new regime but we've been woeful at getting any money at all in that mid £20-50m range. A lot of other top clubs regularly sell players in that range, we just don't. We either get peanuts for them when they're well past their sell-by date or once every few years sell one big player for a decent amount but only when they really want to leave. We don't tend to sell players like McTominay, Maguire, Lindelof, AWB for decent mid-range prices. Hell we could have even got £30m for Jesse Lingard at one point. We don't make much from our academy players either.

On the postive side, with the regime change and the fact that Greenwood and Sancho really need to go and are still quality players at a good age, we might get closer to the figures you mentioned. But I'm still doubtful. I wouldn't be surprised if we only bring in about £70m for Greenwood, Sancho and a couple of others, or a lot less and we keep one of those two. Everyone knows we probably really want rid of them so that might go against us.

People want a full clearout, but I don't think its needed or possible.

I would like 2 CB's, 2 CM's and 2 attackers, however, we should sign 1 CB, 2 CM's and one versatile attacker.

Signing a CB to partner Martinez, whilst keeping Kambwala, Evans and Maguire. I would only sell Lindelof.

In midfield - if we only get one cm, then i feel we should keep Casemiro. In the event we can get 2, we should let Casemiro go. Mainoo is good, but I wouldn't be comfortable going into the season with him as a certified starting midfielder without competition. The midfielder we should definately get should be more defensive. This can mean a straight no.6 or a defensive 8 like Kante was. Mainoo has the technical nous to play with either. If we only sign one CM, I truly believe that Casemiro can play a decent role as an 8 rotating with Mainoo. He would also be able to fill in as a 6 if needed.

In attack, i would ideally want 2 options, a winger and a striker who can rotate with Hojlund. However, we can kill two birds with one stone by signing a versatile attacker like Zirkzee who can rotate with Hojlund or play with him as one of our wide men. We have Garnacho, Rashford and Amad also on the flanks. Mount should also be utilized on the flanks a bit more.

For a full breakdown:

I would definitely let go of Varane, Lindelof, Mctominay, Wan Bissaka, Eriksen, VDB, Sancho, Antony Greenwood and Martial.

I would keep Onana, Bayindir, Maguire, Martinez, Kambwala, Evans, Dalot, Shaw, Malacia, Mainoo, Casemiro (dependent on other signing), Bruno, Mount, Gore, Amad, Garnacho, Rashford and Hojlund.

I would promote Amass and Wheatley.

I would sign 1 CB, 2 CM's ( no.6 and no.8) and a versatile forward.

Charlie and Donnie gone now.

The summer budget got a much needed shot of €500k!

Greenwood and Sancho next, hopefully.

Maguire, Mct and Lindelof are all in last year of contract. I have a bad feeling that we will soon see "signs a new contract".

Unlikely. We don't normally do renewals during the summer transfer window. Plus Lindelof at least seems to have somebody interested in him.

AWB too, but I think Maguire's and McT's contracts have an option for an additional year.

Good post: added what I think we’ll do with a few of these
The expiring contracts next season make the situation a little interesting. We'll either have to sell some of these players this window, let them go on a free next summer window or offer them new contracts.

- Victor Lindelof - Contract ends June, 25 think he’s being sold?
- Wan Bissaka - Contract ends June, 25
- Christian Eriksen - Contract ends June, 25 release
- Willy Kambwala - Contract ends June, 25 expect a new contract offer
- Donny Van de beek - Contract ends June, 25 sell to Girona
- Facundo Pellistri - Contract ends June, 25 release if no buyer
- Amad Diallo - Contract ends June, 25 (Option for another season) extend
- Scott McTominay - Contract ends June, 25 (Option for another season)
- Harry Maguire - Contract ends June, 25 (Option for another season)

Heaton's and Brandon Williams' contract ends this summer. I think both will be let go.

We need to decide on the futures of all of them. In addition, Casemiro, Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho;s stay with us is up in the air.
Unsure what happens with AWB, McSauce, and Maguire. Imagine we would listen to offers for all three but can definitely see McT being offered a contract at the same time. I’d expect this past season rehabilitated Maguire’s image somewhat-his injury is bad timing

Erik likes McT. I think he will stay.

One of Maguire/Lindelof has to go at a minimum.

AWB and McTominay both should have value to teams where you could get decent fees as well for them.

The rest will be pretty much scraps bar Sancho/Greenwood. I'd like to see Antony loaned somewhere (partly to rehab his value, partly to keep ETH far away from the temptation of starting him)

Posting here since the Greenwood thread was locked for some odd reason, even though we never officially sold him yet

If the rumors for Casemiro are true we could maybe hope for 75-85m£ back with the two others we want to offload. Probably need to find a few more for 100 because it seems like we're about to spend 150-200 if the links for 2 CBs, 1 DM on top of that Dutch forward are true. Plus we'll probably need a couple of squad signings.

We'd free up a lot of wages space and there's talk of deferred payment terms for Zirkzee but it is not exactly what I would call frugal either.
