The bad (typically gun related) things happening in America thread

Why would they do that?

It would negate grifting prospects.

They could no more define AGA than they could communism, woke, or CRT.
I figured but also wondered if I somehow missed it.
This helps me be ready to ask for the definition then if I ever see a maga (and ready to ridicule them if none produced).

Twitter is fecking useless. My cousin is locked down in the hospital.

Local news is confirming that the suspect is in custody.
Glad to hear hey got him. My family and friends are all good, but still not heard back from my colleague who covers UNC and has customers in Caudill.

Edit: He is safe and at home but has been in that room (if Caudill 159 is the scene as I saw on Twitter). He's been talking to some of his customers who were sheltering in the basement.

First thing I thought of was Virginia Tech.

Sad that the American brain needs to catalogue all our mass casualty shootings to make them easier to recall.

Good to hear. They arrested him fairly close to my friend’s apartment about 1.5 miles from campus. Hopefully no one was seriously hurt. They’ve said UNC didn’t receive any major injuries, which could either be good or very bad.

Only takes a moment to rack the slide. Everyone's an operator, I guess.

Remember stopping at a Bojangles in southern NC about ten years ago and seeing a large, older woman with a Glock on the waistband of her sweatpants. Can't be too careful.

I hate Carolina, but the Daily Tar Heel is a very good student paper. They've torpedoed a number of shady things the university has done or tried to do and fight constantly to hold the scumbags on the Board of Trustees and Administration accountable. This is probably the most emotive way they could convey the trauma the whole community experienced. Unfortunately, it won't be persuasive for the scumbags in the NC General Assembly.

No, I would venture to guess we get a few pro gun bills passed, vetoed, and then overridden. Next years gubernatorial race is terrifying to me.

They have normalized mass shootings in the USA by ignoring it and pretending that it's not a problem. This is the reality and we either have to live or die with it.

Perfectly normal...

Doctor shares startling reminder guns are leading cause of death for children and teens in US

An analysis of US Centers for Disease Control data published last week showed guns remained the leading cause of death among children in the US in 2021.

Terrible that such a medication needs the ability to purchase OTC, but, having seen to people be resuscitated by Narcan, its value will be incalculable by soon being OTC...

As with @Carolina Red, my concern for a close friend who has become a middle school teacher here in Savannah is palpably high. These two clips dropped on my timeline recently…

feck anyone who defends their rights to have a fecking semi automatic rifle over kids going through this or worse when it's for real.

Unless it is their own child, and maybe not even then, I would say that every single gun owner would choose their gun over someone else's child. How do I know? Because they still own them.

if a staunch gun owner's kid would get killed in a school, they would spin it in a way that gun's are not the problem as well, that would be preferable than to recapacitate and endure the guilt that his way of life and culture is the cause of the death of their child

Because for starters empathy is not their forte or they would not have guns in the first place

As proved by one of the parents of one of the kids who died in the Parkland shooting. If I remember correctly he came out against David Hogg who has spent his time since the shooting working tirelessly to get guns banned or st the very least far tougher gun laws in place. I can't imagine the mindset of losing a child at school to guns then arguing they shouldn't be banned.

Because if they recognize that guns are the problem, is recognizing that they are partially responsible of the dead of their kid. And they cant (I don´t think I could also) live with this guilt. Also, they are stupid

Ding ding ding.

Especially your final sentence.
