The bad (typically gun related) things happening in America thread

Buried in that news story is the gem about the report being barred from the courtroom (which is illegal). Would not be shocked if the rapists family are connected. This whole thing stinks but is not shocking.

Actually, no need to be shocked as a little googling shows that:

"Second circuit solicitor Bill Weeks’ office is handling Turner’s case because the defendant’s father – Walt Turner – was an investigator in the office of S.C. first circuit solicitor David Pascoe." - Yet Another Flagrant Miscarriage Of Justice In South Carolina - FITSNews

also, his lawyer?

Powerful state senator Brad Hutto, who gained infamy in this case a few years back when he slut-shamed one of the alleged victims. (same article as above).

Russian soldiers were taking plates out of their bulletproof vests & replacing them with laptops. They were quickly liquidated.

Any details on the type of firearm/ammunition and what level of body armor?

Would be interesting to know if it was a mismatch of projectile versus protection, impact injury or just an unfortunate miss.

Apparently it was a 9 mm handgun, probably your typical Glock. The real problem is the so-called "tan plate carrier style vest" (you can search it on Google), for which it can be easy to hit an area not protected by armor plates (Source).

In any case, it was just peak stupidity.

I'm basically an American when it comes to guns so yeah that's interesting. Shame that it was poor accuracy that did it (likely due to trigger discipline) but I guess that's slightly less stupid than the alternatives. Still ridiculously stupid, though, just put the vest up and shoot it with no one wearing it if you want to see how it works. They were probably being toxically masculine and wanted to know what it felt like.

Wish I didn't look at the replies. A large portion of America never left the 18th century.

Yep. We’re outta lethal injection meds, so he had his choice between that and the electric chair. Choose firing squad.

Why resort to such expensive methods if you have to condemn someone to death? Lumber, nails and a rope are cheap and do the job well enough.

If the shooters are truly drawn from volunteers I would pray this is an elaborate ruse to find and fire (pun intended) the sociopaths in the DOC.

This being America, of course, could the police department raise extra funds by auctioning the chance to be a shooter. Bring your own gun (are they easily available)?

You think I'm joking? This is exactly what will happen next...

Shooting apparently started in the food court, according to stuff on Twitter. The food court there is really damn big, even has a carousel for kids to play on. No telling how many people were in there.

Here's an article about it: https://www.foxcarolina.com/2022/04...re-shooting-shot-self-defense-turned-himself/

According to his lawyer, the bond is because of a self defense claim, no criminal record, called the police and turned himself in, legally owned gun but no permit.
If he doesn’t have a record, it is out of a technicality if he was a minor the first time he was involved in someone getting shot (and killed).
