The All-time Auction Draft

Myself sjor and marty may have just joined here but we had alot of drafts in the newbies. Rather than maybe just who do you think will win how about what score do you think it would be and maybe have a league format??

If there is 16 two groups of 8 top 2 into the semis..

Everyone take turns setting up games so the head of the game isnt bombarded and can play himself??

You forgot that from my angle I haven't played one for a year or so.

I agree, I actually don't like how the moment the first round finishes eliminated managers start discussing the next one. We even had an unplayed final because the managers coukdn't be arsed :mad:

The way other sites have sorted it is skipping matchthreads and just voting rankings (10 points first and so on).

It's shite afaic. I know you sometimes repeat points (I still see Carlos-Passarella every now and then) but the fact they need repeating indicates there's value to be gained for anyone with a slightly open mind.

As someone said, the quality of discussion has improved a lot over time. Partly it's quality participants, but I would put a lot more down to learning. Learning is good ;)
 
Three keys to success as far as I'm concerned. First, keep the pool fresh. Rehashing the same arguments about the same players within the space of a couple of months gets old fast. There's lots of scope out there to avoid re-using the same players time after time. Second, have a clear demarcation between one draft ending and the next beginning. At the moment the lines are blurred, one draft merges into the next one, and it all becomes a bit mushy. Third, management and ownership. The draft needs to be well managed and managers need to take responsibility to ensure it runs well and on time.

Seven for me. Four finals. Two wins. Not bad.

I'm amazed at the number of drafts lately, I'm pretty sure the Reality draft wasn't even a year ago.

There's a couple missing I reckon, one that never ended where someone had Francescoli but never played the final :mad: and another that you had to pick one player from each country playing in the 2014 World Cup. Players were picked December 2013 and no one bothered run it six months later based on WC form, half the managers disappeared and many of those left would have known their players played shit. Terrible idea to remember for future reference: future form based drafts will have people losing interest very quickly if/when their chaps don't perform, it's not like you can snake oil sell your way around it.

I agree with this. I think the drafts are starting to reach a level where every game and every manager has you learning a bunch of stuff about players that you didn't know enough about or that you simply didn't know enough about. Educationally they've never been this good and managers goes in to a lot of effort to portray what type of player he was and so forth and the draft part I agree is always kept at a good level of entertainment.

We do need to find a new way to either make the match threads mean more for the managers, or/and find a way to bring in more lively discussions from non participating managers. We could keep a ranking on all managers for example, lower the amount of participants per draft to keep the interest high, we could even have small tournaments like "Best of England" draft where only the managers from England can participate etc.

The biggest issue currently is that we need to find a way to make sure that matches are played much more rapidly. If we had a system with ranking and set out dates then we would probably have a smoother working organization. As it is, anybody who doesn't quite want to play the draft on a certain day will just say no(which they should be able to, to reschedule it to date soon after).


Just some ideas that haven't been refined at all.

Think i've played in about 9. 7 in bold from the list below i think but also a premier league draft, and an U21s that never got going. Won 1, lost a final and had another final that was never played once the World Cup started.

Extremely busy in work at the min so havn't played that many recently.

The auction draft finished at the start of the World Cup, so theres been 8 played in the last year. Not sure if thats the final you're referring to that wasnt played. My Milan themed team was meant to be playin Annahs side but cant remember if he had aquired Francescoli by then.

:lol: The first one I myself took part in (and the reason for which I think there's definitely a caf draft before that one) was around summer 2008, every pick got 24 hours and the selection itself went around for a month, and then straight forward voting for your favourite three teams. Whoever started it copied it from here so I know that there's one draft buried in caf history, the thing that started it all.

Now almost all popular forums have it regularly - this, RAWK, BigSoccer, xtratime, FootballForums, etc. Then football related groups on social media keep having it there. I've even seen drafts played on Skype with a group of people and a minute for a pick. :lol: I'll be embarrassed to say the number of drafts I've played/seen - one massive number that haha.

I have 3,400+ I think 3,000 at least are draft related lol.
I havent seen the sun in three years.. I am locked in my basement thinking of vicious schemes.

It was an oldies draft, remember cos I had meazza, suarez and monti in my side. Was fun reading about meazza in particular.

Edit- Was the all time fantasy draft. My side got crushed by cutch in round one.

Draft VIII: Sheep Draft (Winner Gio) - Yes. Lost in first round fair and square after picking up a sheep. :lol: Hence my dislike for Sheep drafts.
Draft IX: Transfer Muppet Draft (Winner: MJJ) - Yes, lost in the semi final against MJJ with the Guardiola theme then took over someone elses team and lost in the final to MJJ again that bastard. :mad: He's killed more northerners than a white walker.
Draft X: Auction Draft (Winner: Cutch/Annah) - Yes, Maradona/Carlos Bilardo theme
Draft XI: Criteria Draft (Winner: Aldo) - No.
Draft XII: Reality Draft (Winner: antohan) - Lost first round to TRV.
Draft XIII: Managers Draft (Winner: EAP) - Yes, but as a joke with Luxemburgo. :D My favorite draft by far to take a part of.
Draft XIV: British Irish Draft (Winner: MJJ) - Yes, lost in quarter finals with the best team I've ever had by a mile and quit.
Draft XV: Modern Era Draft (Winner: Theon) - No
Draft XVI: Second Sheep Draft (Winner: Cutch) - No
Draft XVII: Euro Draft (Winner: Joga Bonito) - No
Draft XVIII: All Time Auction Draft (Winner: TBC) - No

So I've played 5 as I don't count the Luxemburgo one. Haven't played any draft in 7 months, can't believe it was so long ago since the British/Irish draft.
