The All-time Auction Draft

I'm done with the write-up @green_smiley . Will be back online in another 6 hours or so, we can have our match then hopefully. Also will someone help out with setting up the match, since Annah won't be available?

I'm here. Just give me some time, need to sort things out and then we can start the match. Any one up for starting the match?

if nothing i have the coolest midfield that ever played the game

@green_smiley what? :D im going out now so i cant create the game for someone if thats what you want, if you need someone to play im ready, just ask cal if he is :)

Eh no. Don't send it to me. Let's just wait for someone to turn up and I can wait for you to be online again. How long will it take for you to come back on?

You don't necessary have to wait for me. If you want, probably start the game after 5-6 hours. I will reply when I can

Nah, not going to open the PM at all, it's not right. I'm fine with waiting for you. In fact, you should just send it to a neutral for now just in case and I will do it right now too, to avoid any suspicions of unscrupulous activity or anything.

Nothing else is on?

This must be one of the slowest drafts of all time. SDOAT!

It's so slow I'm almost ready for another one. Looking at this one, I can think of an improvement on this and my all-time one.

Not the time though, massive burnout. Should be a current one and 40s next for variety.

I also need to come up with a format that will let me have all the players I want, maybe this was it tbh :(

You are kidding right? We used to run these with @Brwned as the only one able to create polls while also participating. Now I think of it, he always seemed to get to the final somehow lolzy
What's up Iosif?

If you want I can set the match up for you now to save you waiting

Edit: I can see you are waiting.. whoops

Aye. But you made a very valid point in one of the other threads: There's too much of this. New draft begins almost before the last one has finished. And that isn't down to an immense interest on the Caf as such - its' mainly down to a group of draft junkies.

Don't be offended - I'm a junkie myself, opiates, mainly, though - not drafts. But the point is that - perhaps- a rethink of the concept itself is in order, as I've been saying many times. Take a step back, look at the thing - possibilities for developing the match threads, not least.

It's largely the same thing over and over again - in terms of, precisely, the match threads. The drafting part is fun no matter what - especially for the managers, and even for the bystanders to an extent. But the matches are getting stale, IMO. It's hard to get involved, as an outsider. What can you say which hasn't been said a million times before? I've considered posting in certain recent match threads, pertaining to certain players being used in a certain way - but I've made the exact same points before, so why bother?

Well you have newbies like Sjor, berbsloty, Marty, ChrisG etc addin in new blood. harms, joga etc joined in 3-4 drafts before and are regulars now. Me, VivaJ etc were 3-4 drafts before that,...coolredwine and and some others expressed interest and may join in future. yes, we have the regular junkies, but I would say we have enough new blood to keep it interesting.

Agree on the matches being a bit stale to a certain extent. I think as long as all matches in a round are played quickly (within a week or so) it helps keeps interest up. Can't think of any improvements atm, tbh!

Denis Law vs Leicester FA Cup Final

A few things to note
-His ball-carrying ability
-Timing of runs
-Ease on both flanks/channels alternating as an inside left/right
-Most importantly his desire to be involved in play and industrious style but always busting his gut to get forward to the box asap

DEFENSIVE WORK

giphy.gif

Loses possession but chases back determinedly to win it back

giphy.gif

Recovers possession with interception

giphy.gif

Making a defensive clearance from inside the box

giphy.gif

Wins back ball

giphy.gif

Doesn't give up on a poorly weighted ball and wins a throw in

giphy.gif

Recovers possession in a dangerous area

giphy.gif

Gets back to help the defense, making the interception which finally sets United on a promising counter

HOLD-UP/CENTRE FORWARD PLAY

giphy.gif

Phenomenal centre-forward play on the counter - waits for support to arrive before almost scoring another goal

giphy.gif

Fantastic work to create a goal but the whistle was blown for a free-kick for a foul by Law on the defender. Can't for the life of me see what Law did wrong there

giphy.gif

Terrific ball-control and holds up play

giphy.gif

Great one-touch lay off to set up Charlton for the shot
giphy.gif

Does well to control the fast pass with awkward bounce

giphy.gif

Great run into the box but just misses the pass

giphy.gif

An excellent off the ball run but the ball is slightly over played

giphy.gif

Great hold-up play and then a nice lay-off for a shot

giphy.gif

Evades a tackle with typical ease, holding up the ball before laying it off to a free midfielder for a shot

On the Ball

giphy.gif

Almost makes it 2-0 after jinxing past a defender and executing a sensous one-two, taking out both the centre backs before rounding up In fact the commentator labelled it as "a piece of supreme football artistry from Denis Law"

giphy.gif

Almost plays a defense splitting pass

giphy.gif

Defense-splitting pass to Charlton

giphy.gif

Spreads play and gets to the box

giphy.gif

Chest control that Fellaini would be jealous of before spreading play

giphy.gif

Nice one-two before spreading play to Charlton

giphy.gif

Great pass out to Charlton but doesn't dilly dally and busts his gut to get into the box asap - a regular feature of his game

giphy.gif

Brilliant goal on the turn after some terrific work from his fellow Scot Paddy

giphy.gif

Pin-Point ball

giphy.gif

Carries the ball forward with ease but doesn't stand and admire his work, busting his gut to get into the box as usual.

giphy.gif

Goes on a mazy run, dancing past defenders before he is hacked down

vs Tottenham

Shorter compilation this one

Plays as the inside/outside right for a good period in this match and hits the bar twice, scores two goals and assists another in a 4-0 win

giphy.gif

Header hits the bar from a corner

giphy.gif

Wins ball back and plays a nice pass

giphy.gif

Injects tempo with his ball-carrying ability

giphy.gif

Hits the bar on the counter

giphy.gif

Spreading play

giphy.gif

Assists for the 2nd goal for Paddy

giphy.gif

Should have been a standard take for the goalie until he came across the Lawman's leap, causing chaos in the box

giphy.gif

Scores after beating through the offside trap

giphy.gif

Puts in a dangerous cross from the right

giphy.gif

Starts off the counter from the right wing before bursting all the way forward to supply a cross

giphy.gif

Great dribble but scuffs the shot

giphy.gif

Poaches his 2nd goal of the day

@Edgar Allan Pillow @Chesterlestreet Maybe we can come up with a new concept for the draft junkies? Like a progressing league or something which can be narrowed to a single/fewer threads. I don't know, maybe we're misjudging the neutral scan voters, maybe they hate it maybe they love it, but maybe we can try a new approach(just not sure how it will be implemented)
