That Sensible Football Forum

Once again, Davo is pretending to be the persecuted voice of reason, instead of what everyone knows he is.

He isn't remotely neutral or reasonable about either United or Liverpool. He's just as incapable of criticising his club as the so-called 'spastics' he loves to insult.

It would be extremely hard to turf out an elite poster, even more difficult to determine spoilers.

I don't think so.

Besides, I don't think it'd be much a problem. . . seeing as it'd be set up for serious discussion.

An elitist forum's a better and easier option, though. Select say 20. . .and only invite the one's that are the best in future. And I don't think it'd harm the main boards, as most of us would love to mingle with the spastics just for the entertainment factor.

Again, you automatically assume that you would be part of the 20 elite users despite the fact that there are loads of people who contribute more to the football forum than you do.
So if you were given access to this forum ahead of someone else like Ruben or Utd heap then surely it would because of your reputation in the general which would enforce Jason's point* of this being an exclusive group of e-friends who enjoy their own wit.

*If I understood the point correctly.

You have only made 38 posts in the football forum where most of the posts contains a few oneliners and some green laughing smilies.

I hardly ever use the green smilie. And the point is, it'd be a place where I could debate. . .and not need to call anyone a spastic. I can't post on the football forums. . . they're full of people like you.

Exactly. It's an obvious point that seems to float over everyone's heads.

I also find it hilarious how people make the point about an elitist forum being pretentious and self appreciating, and yet at the same time harp on about how we should just "ban all the idiots"

You constantly portray this like we're talking about banning thousands of people or something. That's just intellectually dishonest of you.

It isn't any different from the 'old days' the likes of Davo harp on about when the 'spastics' used to get chased out by getting laughed at. Only now the mods would give them a little push.

You'd prefer to start a Back Slapping Room.

Easy

You should know...

No I shouldn't! If by having a valid point means it is ruining it for other people, then it's the other people that should not have the right to be here. This forum has become a microcosm of the political and social ills within this world (especially Western) we have to live on. Your previous obsessive mollycoddling and support of certain posters is a prime example of this.

If you want to take that further do it by PM, otherwise it could turn unsavory to say the least.

Certainly not claiming to be persecuted on an individual basis, merely that the football forum is currently in a shabby state...most agree.

I'm far more objective about you, and know far more about the game....doubt even you would try and argue otherwise

You don't seem to have a point here....you just want to disagree with me

And yeah, the forum would probably full of people with the same wit(Actually wavelength). Which is the whole point, Top.

And you'd rather turn this into Red Issue, sacrificing the main forums in favour of a tiny little bolt hole for the 'sensible'?

Why not actually post in the football forums instead of running away and then complaining about the quality?

Some of us are trying to clean up the footie forums, and the likes of Davo even are objecting to us doing it. Because he'd rather get scratched on the back than get any of his biased posts challenged.

Was it more crazier in the admin room, than the RDR admin room, Weaste?

It would be extremely hard to turf out an elite poster, even more difficult to determine spoilers.

Why?

It'd be just like the CE forum. Everyone gets access, and then anyone who becomes disruptive is removed. It wouldn't be hard at all. Just one more forum to moderate.

At least it'd remove the argument about it being pretentious. .

I certainly prefer it to the idea of going about deciding who is and isn't an idiot, and then banning the ones who you determine are. That most definitely is pretentious

I'm just making suggestions anyway

Why? Same rules should apply to all on a new forum.....I agree re the sentiment that older posters etc get more of a chance generally speaking, but if anyone spazed it up they could be suspended/booted...

Ideally, that would be the case.

Being part of some debates in the Admin forum, I assure you we are pretty loathe to ban or infract old timers.

I've virtually given up. It's the average age of the poster. . . it's all about CM style tactics, and players that we should buy. I don't quite fit in. I used to post a lot in the United forum, by the way.

I'm not objecting to the idea of trying to do it, just don't think it can be done in a sensible way that won't risk killing it. And like I pointed out earlier, no one knows what is and isn't allowed thesedays

As to whether I think you're doing a good job personally, no, but that's not the point in question

No! But at least you could say what you wanted in the RDR admin room and not give a feck who it upset. Here politics happen, and people take sides over certain issues, don't express opinions so publicly, and it's not always disclosed. It's a bit like Ancient Rome in a way.

Well, three mental feckers were in charge, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

That's pretty much the same as an elite forum idea, just more hard work and more risky

They do?

The thing with deciding who is an idiot is that it would be a VERY low bar, so most people would be unaffected.

Starting the Back Slapping Room would affect everyone who isn't 'invited' - a much greater proportion of users - as this place degenerated into the Red Issue main forum.

Its basically about trying to make a difference in the quality in a way that is most beneficial for the most people and the least disruptive to the majority.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree on which is 'better', but again I want to correct the notion that anyone currently wants to do a Weaste-style 'ban the cocks' cull. We're talking about very selected cases.

I can understand that - but if one of the old timers was being a spaz in the current events forum I reckon you'd see things differently. This would be similar

Does anyone actually know what infraction points are...or mean? It seems a bit of a weird stick..

Davo can't avoid a personal swipe because he got his e-hand e-slapped.

How cute.

5=48 hour ban
10=one week ban
15=permanent ban

It isn't really intended for good or old time users (like yourself) but for the arsefaces who push buttons all the time without actually crossing the line.

You got one more as a 'message' than anything else.

Why have you highlighted part of my post and then chosen to completely ignore what it said?

Again, a rubbish post

Why does this idea annoy you so much? We'd let you in even if it was an elite group.....it would be a good learning experience for you

From an Admin point of view, the cocks are very easy to spot. It has nothing to do with whether you are in agreement or not with somebody, but rather if the posters in question are actually capable of stringing together a coherent argument of at least two four sentence paragraphs in length. Posters who can and posters who cannot are very very easy to spot, and harsh measures would result in the removal of approximately 65%.

So I call spastics in the football forum "fecking spastics" on 14 more occasions I get a perm ban from the site. That seems reasonable, good plan....

Because I would rather 'save' the footie forums than retreat into a little room for 'elites' who would largely just get along and agree with each other.

Even if I was in there I infinitely prefer the other solution as less drastic, more workable, less elitist, and much better for the site.

I don't want this to become Red Issue.

That's not really the idea, but sort of.

It is for people who massively disrupt debate or who act like cretins.

You and Eduardo got 1 point. We asked you to let it go and instead of doing so you kept at it with him and went on a rant about how the moderators were basically ruining your ability to call him a spastic.

As you know, I didn't give you the point, just explaining it.

You're not able to save the football forum, this has been shown already.

If you object so much to an elite forum, another idea has been suggested several times re everyone having access and the idiots removed.

It's not too much to ask for the better posters, and in many cases the posters who made this site what it is, to want to be able to discuss football in a sensible manner without spastics spoiling it. Focus on this going forwards as opposed to your girly comments re me, just because I'm better looking than you...

I higjhlighted the bit to which I said "they do?"

I've never seen a CE only ban.

Probably because everyone understands what the CE forum is about, so there's no need.

It'd be the same with this sensible football forum thingy, in time. Or perhaps not, in which case, who cares? it'd still have been worth a try

Aye, at the end of the day even the critics must agree that it has a chance of working, whereas the current situation isn't

What's the harm in trying?

Infractions are for over the top abuse and personal threats.

We'd lose both yourself and Plech in a few hours if we infracted for the use of spastic.

What's over the top abuse? It's daft and in no way consistent...largely because there's no real plan bar a notion of "tidying the forum up"
