Anyway I doubt anything that has been said over the past few pages is really relevant to the thread.So far we've had some of the old timers and erstwhile regulars agreeing that a new forum wouldn't be too bad an idea and that it should be given a trial.And we have some posters rejecting the idea outright as silly and are in favour of banning the spazzers who derail a football thread with their usual nonsense.
I'm afraid the idea isn't going to find too much favour with the admins or mods because they seem to be doing some cleaning up of the footie and ould rather wait to see the results there than just try and whole new idea which could just destabilise the Caf...also I gather the admins and Niall usually take decisions unanimously?That doesn't seem to be happening so we'll keep going round in circles with Weaste seeing cocks everywhere...
So I say...Lets have elections.

Seriously though...this thread has been pretty decent till now...people had disagreements but they never took the thread off topic or forced it to be closed till now.
Jason is a disgrace of a mod but that was pretty much common knowledge anyway.The least he could've learnt from his long life on this internet forum is to atleast practice what he preaches instead of acting like a 12 year old girl.Now this thread is probably going to be closed in a few hours and that tit can go around gloating about how some people wanted a back slappers forum and how he saw them for what they were.That has been his main motive since Davo started the original 'new football forum' thread.

Ok I've only read about half of this topic but I think the various arguments are just being repeated at this stage.
I'm very much against an 'Elite' forum. Making this a three tier site will benefit the few who are in the top tier, and shit on everybody below it. We'd be effectively abandoning the majority of the site and letting it float into the muppet abyss.
I realise there are problems and action does need to be taken. The introduction of new mods is a step towards improving things, although a lack of clear guidelines for them hasn't helped. I take responsibility for this. My free time to spend on here dropped dramatically shortly after they were appointed and so never got around to discussing this with them.
Infraction points are a decent system but the implementation could probably be improved i.e. broader reaching infractions so that more serious offences are punished appropriately.
While I won't sign off on an elite forum, how about a middle ground - demotions.
Instead of creating a whole new forum, where everyone is allowed in to start and then the muppets are filtered out, we work within the existing format and demote people back to the Newbies as their muppet like tendencies become obvious.
This will hopefully lead to a gradual improvement in post quality as the cream rises to the top. New posters have to earn their promotion but if they don't keep their standard high they go right back down.
The end result will hopefully be quite similar to what is being proposed - a better football forum with some half decent debate.

Good man. Agree entirely, for what it's worth.
This is also the Idea that I most like the sound of, it seems so much easier for all involved. People don't need to worry about getting canned without warning as the trip to the newbies would be warning enough.
I take it a poster will only get a finite amount of chances for promotion?
Also will the ban route be via the newbies or just a straight ban?
The theory is sound, time will tell if it is successful.
Bannings will of course still work as normal.
I agree with your idea Niall. Sounds like a very good plan, plus it will allow posters to 'clean up their acts' if they are guilty of any muppetry.
