Thank you Van Gaal Thread

Apart form the FA Cup win and Martial
Thanks for nothing , he turned watching United form something I look forward to to something that was not pleasurable at all , even when winning.
The youngsters he promoted have done well , but they were forced on him by injuries, he insisted on playing rubbish out of position players.
What I hate most of all is that he has made Maureen's style of football something that United fans seem to want, that would not of been the case 2 seasons ago , we would've not touched him with a barge pole.

Thanks for showing us how cnut-ish the press really are too. Shame on them.

They really have been cnuts to him the whole time, the pathetic know-it-all vermin. What's worse to me is that I think in their own heads was the justification of some of our 'fans' being just as bad to him. I think he showed many of our fans to be massive cnuts too. Depressing.

LVG was mocked for no good reason by fans and press alike, bullied almost. I'm sure it's water off a ducks back but you'd think a great manager of the game deserves better than that, even if you were unable to handle a particular type of football his team played. The respect and support of your own fans should be a very minimum, not something only granted when the club is on the verge of winning all possible trophies. This is especially annoying given the press were so against him, to me that would compel my support even if I hated the man.

I'm grateful for his service and have total admiration for how he dealt with the press in particular, it annoys me greatly how they see themselves as in a position to mock and criticise a real achiever in the sport they leech from. I've wanted Mourinho at the club for a while before LVG but his treatment takes the shine off of Jose's arrival a bit for me.

LVG was shit. The team he created was shit. The football his team was playing was shit.

He was bullshitting us from the beginning with "philosophy" and "process".

If nothing else, the press was too tolerant towards him and his bullshit.

(And don't forget that LVG earned millions from this bullshit! We don't owe him shit!)

I like characters and he was certainly that all right. I'm really happy for him that he could end on a trophy.

Thank you for everything, van Gaal. I hope you'll be happy in Portugal. Enjoy your retirement.

You irritated us no end but still their were some positives. You are a good, honest man. Thanks for the FA cup. Enjoy the retirement.

No, it should have happened last December!
Nah the sacking is way overdue but writing thank yous, goodbyes and obituaries is a little premature at this point imo. I want his sacking signed, sealed and delivered before going on a celebratory binge.

"i can make any player better. I'm sorry if that sounds arrogant, but its true"

"i need fast creative players"

"expectations are too high"

"fans are living in the past"

"philosophy this, philosophy that, more philosophy"

I was excited when he became manager after watching the Netherlands in the world cup but he has disappointed. His first season wasn't that bad but this season has been terrible. I have never been so disinterested in United games as in the past year. His style of football will clearly not work here because it is too slow and allows teams to get men behind the ball. To make it work we'd require three signings like Neymar, Messi and Suarez but that will never happen.

Although there have been many negatives there are also some positives. He has gotten rid of a lot of players that were underperforming and I agree with most of the players he has let go but they haven't been replaced properly. We are now better in the big games than under Moyes. I'm certain that Martial will go on to become the world's best player so that was a great signing. The youth players like Fosu-Mensah, Bortwick-Jackson and Rashford that have played under him look very impressive.

Good riddance!

Made me endure some of the worst footballing moments as a United fan.

Its always hard for any man to lose his job, more so if its done after months of speculation and criticism publicly.

His sacking is just, and I couldn't be happier with appointing Jose (if the reports are true). Would've done no harm to allow LVG to have at least one good day before reverting back to the sacking talk, but in the big scheme if things, its a huge step forward for the club. One of the biggest clubs in the world now has the best manager in the world.

Dont agree but thats not for this thread.

you're the biggest jag-off theyve ever worked for. i hope this place burns to the ground with you in it, because that is exactly what you deserve, you nickel-and-dime chickenshit motherfecker.

you call yourself a manager? you couldn't manage a ham sandwich!

Liked him as a character, wanted him to succeed but I fear some of his approaches have been superceded and his arrogance wouldn't allow evolution.

Pros include He sorted the defence after the moyes shambles, somehow won a good number of games against the bigger teams with juanfield in particular a fantastic performance, retained ddg, won the fa cup

Cons Europe was a disaster, adm shifted too readily and serving up some of the most painful football I've had the misfortune to watch it was genuinely mind numbing and made watching United a difficult experience

Nows the right time for him to go , whatever you think of mou his record cannot be ignored and if that's available you take it. If lvg started next season slowly things could get very poisonous very quickly and there may not be any decent candidates to take over then

Bye lou

He should be credited for introducing lots of youngsters in the first team, even if this was mostly forced and not thoroughly planned, for improving certain players on whom the club has invested a lot for the future (Smalling, Shaw, De Gea -on the ball- and others), for buying Martial and for winning us the first important title in the post Ferguson era. Thanks for that, Louis.

He also should have done better. The midfield still needs to be sorted out, our football in the attacking third of the pitch was ponderous to say the least while his whole time at the club looked like a frustrating and futile attempt to fit round pegs to square holes. And in the end that's why he won't be allowed to see out his contract.

I'm glad he will leave the club but i'm also kind of sad because the transition to a possession based United side ultimately failed. I wasn't expecting us to become the next Barca but it feels like we wasted two whole seasons in the end. However the board or some fans try to paint a pretty picture of LvG's time at the club, like the laying of some foundations, the appointment of Mourinho (which seems imminent) is an admission of failure on behalf of the people who run the club. We'll soon have a new manager whose brand of football is the complete opposite to what LvG teaches.

Better than Moyes but still not the right fit. At least he left winning a trophy and he did well bringing through some promising young players, I hold nothing against LvG I hope he has a nice retirement.

Well said.

Moyes is the Chosen One. He'll always be exempt from criticism by some on here:wenger:
The job was beyond Moyes' capabilities. It was hardly his fault he was given the job. LvG thinks he's God's gift to football, and it's the fault of everything and everybody he was unsuccessful.

This site is a cesspit nowadays. Even when the title says it is a thank you thread the moaners still manage to come in herds.

I had high expectations of him. He didn't meet them, but still like him as a person. I thank him for blooding the youth and having the balls to gamble on Martial.

I thank him when he fecks off for fecking off. Shut the door on your way out.

Embarrassing stuff, really. He's helped several youth players into the first team, some of them looking pretty good for the future. And then there's Martial and the FA Cup trophy.

Sacking him is the right decision, but credit where's it's due. It's laughable that some people think Van Gaal was as bad(or worse than) as Moyes. The latter did better in Europe, but that's about it. Van Gaal did everything else better(apart from entertainment. Both Moyes and Van Gaal were equally bad here).

Thanks LVG, I'm convinced he'd have got it right if we knew he had a longer term plan. Unfortunately he hasn't got another four or five years left in him, he leaves the team than better Moyes left him.

There's some real positives from his tenure such as some of the players brought in, the cup.

I feel sorry for him how it ended, he went out on a high-note but he should have been allowed to celebrate it.

I am insistent that Louis has done a better job than it seems right now. I know it's been ugly and hard slog to watch and sit through but in that time he's reached minimum targets across the 2 year period (1 trophy, 1 UCL and 1 non UCL to continue the Adidas contract without financial punishment) and he's reshaped the squad entirely, reducing the average age and wage outlay considerably.

Only time will prove this but we are all far better for having Louis van Gaal manage and craft our club in the way he has than not having it at all. Especially after basically hitting the iceberg with Moyes.

Thank you Aloysius Paulus Maria van Gaal. I will miss you.
We will miss you
