Thank you Van Gaal Thread

Something I posted in another thread but should go here:

I was one of the many who wanted LVG out for obvious reasons.

But one thing that nobody ever mentions but that should be remembered is that he never lost the dressing room. With Moyes you felt like he lost the dressing room after a few months. With LVG, despite poor performances and results, you always saw that the players performed for him and believed in whatever he tried to get them to do. Food for thought.

Thx for the:
  • FA cup
  • signing Martial
  • Screwing up that deadline day fax to Real Madrid for De Gea
  • Introducing Rashford, Fosu and CBJ in the team
But most off all thank you for finally sodding off because I won't be missing the philosophy were we try to win games without scoring goals

Ow and feck you for trying to lower the expectations at the club by blaming the fans

Does that mean you'll be gracing us with your presence next season then? Or are you still off to support Spurs for 12 months or longer?

I am still confused as to how Vangle still gets more sympathy based on shit feck all by some than Moyes did.

Winning the FA Cup, leaving us with Martial and Rashford, keeping hold of De Gea, the victories over Liverpool and especially City were sweet.

Thanks for all that.

Absolutely had to go though, the football was disgraceful.

Thanks for the work with or youth and for bringing silverware back to Old Trafford.

Congrats on a fantastic career, and enjoy retirement.

1. Because he's a charismatic leader and not a complete void of a person like Moyes
2. Because he's clearly a very good coach, both from his record at previous clubs and some of the defensive organisation he's instilled in his time here
3. Because he just won our first FA Cup in a decade and the first trophy since SAF retired

Yes, he's underachieved and the football has by and large been below par, but he's had some successes too. Moyes had no redeeming features.

I'm still a big fan of the man, I like a character, it's the manager that's been the problem. Shame that for whatever reason we mostly got to see the bad side of his work rather than some of better things he's shown in previous jobs.

If this is his last moment in football, I'm happy he left on a high note.

He's steadied a ship that was listing badly and for that we should be thankful but the blunt truth is that his second season, one that should have seen significant improvement, has faltered and really we are not much further forward than this time last year.

Except for charisma he's done a fecking worse job than Moyes for me considering he has gotten 2 full seasons, 250 million pounds to spent and was not taking over the direct shock of a collosus like SAF leaving either. Also has gotten much more leeway than Moyes ever did.

Plus his arrogance when he has been failing is damn irritating. Atleast with Moyes there was a chance he could grow on the job and learn, with LVG he was supposed to be ready and world class from the start with his stupid philosophy which he never accepted to learn or change on despite failing and failing more.

Agreed.

He's also going to get far less sympathy in the long term than Moyes got by the media, who still seem to buy into his bullshit of needing more time.

Mind you I think LvG is a complete twat, too, but at least at times he was entertaining.

Wow...a thread for the van Gaal followers to raise their heads above the parapet and revel in his goodness one last time before he goes!

You are the weakest link....goodbye!

I like him as a person. I don't like him as a manager. But thank you for the FA cup and the youngsters. Well done, and go enjoy your wine and a mince pie in Portugal :)

I think we should all be hugely thankful. We will most likely never watch such boring stuff again and everything next season will be like a breath of fresh air.

On the other side, Van Gaal had a more aging squad than Moyes, with Vidic and Giggs leaving, and Evra and Rio becoming useless. He also had to get a team which was fecking shit, divided and depressed instead of a team full of champions.

As bad as Van Gaal was, Moyes was significantly worse. Van Gaal won FA Cup, made a terrific signing and played a lot of youngsters. Moyes has no redeeming features and his legacy was getting humiliated consistently by Liverpool and City. And Fellaini.

Thanks for giving me back a United manager who treats the press like the parasites they are. I'll miss that.

Yep that is one positive at least unlike his predecessor who kissed their asses.

As if getting humiliated by Arsenal,MK dons, Leicester and Everton was any better.

And i failed to mention that the league at the top for LVG was much weaker too with City giving us every oppurtunity to take 4th and 80 points giving a Comfortable 10 point title win for Leicester. Still he blew it. And LVG used Fellaini more if anything.

And as for youth Moyes also gave us Januzaj in case anyone forgets who LVG mistreated after wards along with Pereira and Wilson. 3 Of our brightest talents in that age group.

And as for one terrific signing when you basically ridiculously sell all your team 2 seasons and spunk 250 million making the squad not much better and thinner, you are bound to atleast get one right. He even fecking bought a club record signing and sold him one year later as he didn't fit. What sort of plan was Di Maria and Valdes ?

As for the FA cup we just about managed to win against fecking palace and got a relatively easy run. Given 250 million and 2 settled seasons i think Moyes could have had a decent shot with this run as well. Oh and even in his first season Moyes did fair bit better in CL also with the same old squad pretty much playing much better football there.

I like and respect him and the players were with him until the end. Can't say the same about Moyes. Moyes I had literally nothing to thank.

LvG at least despite lots of negatives has brought positives too.
Thanks for Martial, Rashford, Blind, CBJ and TFM.
Thanks for not rolling over to City and Liverpool.
Thanks for the FA Cup and first meaningful trophy since SAF.
And also thanks for getting rid off players although he did get rid off too many, but at least he made decisions.

Glad he has a place in our history with the FA Cup win, has had a wonderful career altogether as coach / manager and enjoy retiremen!

If he does end up going (which seems most likely)
Hes leaving the club in a better postion than Moyes did.

Hes cut the age of the squad down significantly, has given first team football to quite a few of the youngsters (the likes of Martial, Rashford, Lingard) all being ready to play more (whilst TFM, CBJ have gained experience).
Hes won us our first (major) trophy post Fergie.

Seriously, a few additions to this team and we can fully compete next season. Also apart from Arsenal 3-0 and Liverpool 2-0 Europa, his "big match" record is quite decent.

In fairness - he has given youth a chance, probably more so than any other manager would have. Part of it may have been down to injuries, but at least we got to know the likes of McNair, Blackett, Wilson, TFM, Rashford, CBJ, and others. The latter three will make it here, so can't be all that bad. That said, 4th/5th, the infuriating meddling with formations, tactics, and tumescent style for a majority of his time here completely counterbalance any good he did, and then some.

3-0 away to Spurs as well. Those were really the only three games where we were totally outplayed. With Moyes, it was an every week occurence.

Thanks for showing us how cnut-ish the press really are too. Shame on them.

We are looking brighter for the future than at any point for about 5 or 6 years, including the final few Fergie years.

Young players in Martial, Rashford, TFM, Shaw, CBJ, Lingard.

World class keeper in De Gea.

Solid players who could be part of a league winning team in Smalling, Schneiderlin, Rooney.

So whilst it didn't work out, I don't think having LVG will look like a bad thing in the long run.

Yea that is true

On the other hand his record versus the small teams is shocking

Yep, thats why I think were in a good position. Next manager can work on that (and tbh, if its Jose, he normally does get that right). And to think, the number of points we dropped against Norwich, Newcastle, Sunderland, Bournemouth, etc. All teams near the bottom (or relegated).

Thank you for boring the pants off me for two years. Thank you for not updating the club's insipid player recruitment infrastructure. And most of all, thank you for being in post so that we couldn't appoint Klopp when he came available, thereby guaranteeing the resurgence of Liverpool.

Goodbye LVG. You weren't as bad as David Moyes, you were quite funny sometimes and you played youth because you had to. It's not nothing, but it's not enough.
