Thank you Van Gaal Thread

Left the club in a much better position than he found it. So cheers for that.
Pity he didn't let the shackles off, I quite liked him despite the football.

Thanks for the FA Cup Louis!

I always felt that this was 'our' trophy and it was painful watching Arsenal overtake us in the total number of FA cups won tally. Also, thanks for giving some of the youth players a chance, you've left us better off for it.

Roll on next season!

Always liked him and still do. Love the no decks given attitude to the gutter press.
Although his time here has been a let down, I think people forget the state in which he met the club. Squad full of over the hill players, a team that had just finished a distant 7th. We finished 6 points behind Sherewood ffs!
Now we have won our fist trophy in ages, a decent squad at the right age range, a thin squad with lots of room for additions and some very good young players.
Mourinho would be making a huge mistake of he tries to revolutionize the squad. We need a few quality additions, that is all.

This.
One more round of transfers and the squad will have a very young feel to it.
Pity there was too little flair in the games.
Wish him all the best.

Cheers Louis. Shame it didn't work out like we'd all hoped. We've had some good times despite the shite.

LOUIS VAN GAAL STATEMENT

It has been an honour to manage such a magnificent club as Manchester United FC, and in doing so, I have fulfilled a long-held ambition.

I am immensely proud to have helped United win the FA Cup for the 12th time in the club's history. I have been privileged during my management career to have won 20 trophies but winning the FA Cup, which is steeped in so much history, will always be one of the most special achievements of my career.

I am very disappointed to be unable to complete our intended three-year plan. I believe that the foundations are firmly in place to enable the club to move forward and achieve even greater success.

I hope that winning the FA Cup will give the club a platform to build upon next season to restore the success that this passionate set of fans desire.

Having managed in Holland, Spain and Germany, I had always hoped for the opportunity to manage in English football and be part of English culture. Both of these experiences have lived up to expectations and been fantastic.

I thank my players and wish them well for next season. It has been a pleasure to work with them and it has been particularly rewarding to see so many young players take their chance to break into the first team and excel. I look forward to watching the continued development of these young players next season.

Thank you to the owners and board of Manchester United for giving me the opportunity to manage this great club.

I would also like to express my gratitude to the amazing United supporters. They are truly the best fans in the world.

I am indebted to my support and coaching staff, who have given me their all during their time at the club.

I am deeply grateful to each and every member of the club’s staff - the sports science team, the medical team, the kit and laundry department, club administration, the press office, the manager's team, the Academy team, ground staff and the catering team, both at Old Trafford stadium and Carrington training ground, all of whom have given me their unwavering support in my time at United. Never in my 25 years as a manager have I been so well supported in my role.

Finally, my special thanks go to Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton for always making me and my family feel so welcome throughout my time as Manchester United manager.

A sad ending for him, wish him all the best in his retirement and a big thanks for introducing so many young players to the team.

wish it went better for him, in the end it was inevitable, thanks for the positives you've come with and happy retirement, now to time to catch up

Thanks Louis - buzzed off winning the FA Cup again, enjoyed the majority of our games against the "big" teams in the league (particularly our dominance over Liverpool), and whereas the football was often dull the end of season award speeches certainly weren't.

I hope to see you sat attending Utd games in years to come - you deserve a send off of sorts for the cup. In all, a pretty incredible career.

Ive finally worked out why I feel bad about Louis Van Gaal leaving Manchester United. Its because ultimately his teams were no way close to being as entertaining as he was! (Thanks @Spoony)

His press conferences were always fun to watch and I love how he regularly put the self gratuitous and often incompetent English football media in its place. He is a man with an aura and charisma that is rare to find, his confidence and conviction in his methods portrayed a man who was totally at ease with himself and at the top of his craft.

Ultimately, I think our team were simply were not smart enough to understand 'his philosophy' of spatial dutch football. Sadly, it was the right decision to part ways. But I see no reason for recriminations or angst.

Anyways Loius, I hope you may read this some day: Thanks for the FA cup and my genuine best wishes in retirement.

Want to thank him for thanking the 'little people' as well. Never read a statement from an outgoing manager thanking the laundry, kit, ground staff - everybody!:D Nice touch.

The club statement says of Van Gaal "and securing him a title in four different countries". Does the FA Cup count as winning a "title"? I always thought that was the league.

A title - includes cups.
The title - is the league.

Thank you van Gaal for your service to our beloved club in the time of need. I didn't appreciate our style of play and results under your leadership, but I can appreciate how tough it was for you to try to rebuild this team following the Moyes' season. The expectations were very high, but the results didn't match. I also appreciate the gracious statement that you put today and can only wish you a well-earned happy retirement. Unfortunately, it's time to part ways (which will never feel natural for me as a Manchester United fan), and so far you have handled it with class. I will always remember that and the FA win!

Thank you and many congratulations on a great career!

Pretty classy..
Right back to you, you crazy sod.

Thank you LvG for:

  • Our 12th FA Cup
  • For Martial, TFM, Shaw, Herrera and few other good signings.
  • For clearing out a few Deadwood and reducing the average age of the squad.
  • For giving some of our academy players a chance to get used to first team football either by design or accident.
  • For some great results over the top sides and especially a League double over Liverpool two years running. Also that 4-2 win over City
  • For improving our Central midfield options.
Although these are the positives, it cannot go unsaid about some of your misgivings:
  • The football in general.
  • Sticking with your Philosophy and Process.
  • Making weird decisions of playing players out of position.
  • No effort to keep DDG and only by sheer luck and Madrid incompetence that we still have him.
  • Saying you need fast, creative players and yet play the game at snail's pace.
  • Trying to play Young as a CF.
  • Starting the season with just Rooney as our recognized striker.
  • Sucking the joy out of football for 95% of your games and only mildly entertaining on the pitch for a few games.
  • High point of the week/season was your end of season drunk speech or some press conference.
  • Saying expectations are too high.

I wish you a Happy, Healthy and Long retirement. I wish it could've worked out, but it didn't. Thank you once again and do enjoy your paradise in Portugal.

Cheers..

Thanks for the FA cup but that's about it really.

I suppose could thank him for giving opportunities to Rashford, Fosu Mensah, Borthwick Jackson etc.. but then he also mishandled Januzaj, Pereira and Wilson.

I wonder if Paddy believes it now

I think he lost any ounce of credibility he had left with his outrageos reaction.

You, the BBC media, don't have a clue, what are your sources ? Tell, me, You won't tell because it is fake, I have seen LVG and Woody hugging eachother, that is proof he will still be the united manager next season, you bunch off...

Official statement 2 days later

BBC versus Paddy 1-0

Ah feck it, i still loves ya Vangle.

Classy statement. Real pity it never worked out, but i've never hidden my admiration for the guy, and i'm not about to now. Thank you and good luck.

Good parting statement from him. All things considered he didn't do a good job and I'm happy it's over, but an FA Cup victory certainly isn't a bad way to finish it.

Classy statement, leaves an fa cup winner. Hated the football Louie but a Classy way to leave and hopefully we'll remember the fa cup win, that dive, wings and nothing more.

Plus I should also add the fact he's updated Carrington to train on same size pitch as OT, ordered some trees be grown to reduce wind. Seriously, I'm shocked when I read about the state of Carrington

Glad to see the back of him, to be quite honest. He's at times made me dread watching United. But, all things considered, a pretty nice statement from him in the end. The personal insults towards him are uncalled for, the footballing criticisms well founded, and overall a pleasant ending which should make all parties happy (or as happy as can be when sacked I guess for LVG).

I miss Aloysius.

Yes. He had the name going for him, if nothing else. Not to say names (plural): Like Maria, which is a brilliant name for a manager. Maureen has Maureen, I suppose, but then we're not supposed to call him that anymore.

I will, though - he's our Maureen now, and I will make the most of that.

FA Cup + giving youth chance. I think it's a good end from him and also a good start for the next manager. Thank You! Now let Mourinho take us higher.

Good post as always @sammsky1

Good riddance. The last two seasons have been utter torture. Thank Christ he has finally gone.

Imagine operating in a world where a complimentary private plane is described as a "nice touch."

I like LvG, can imagine he's great company over a beer.

Personally I don't buy all the complaints about tactics. The majority of his transfers just didn't work out.

Crucial Mourinho makes a good start in the transfer market. He'll have to up his game there given his recent ins and outs.

Yeah, his statement really puts the 'senior figures' at the club to shame.
Classy guy, wish him the best

Arrived at a club that had just had it's confidence shattered and shored things up, returning us to the CL. Disappointing second year still saw us win our first post-SAF trophy. Leaves the club in better condition than he found it and with a strong group of young players for our new manager to (hopefully) build with.

Always liked his personality too and (for all the talk of him being arrogant) departs in a pretty classy manner on his part.

Class is a rare commodity in football these days. Departs with his head held high.
