Thank you Van Gaal Thread

Stabilises us after the Moyes debacle, and the list of away teams cruising into OT, taking the pee and leaving with a win certainly decreased. Our results in the big games improved massively too.
And now the cup win, first after 2 barren seasons

We all know the negatives, but hopefully it's clear it was a key part in getting us back to top of the league success

Plenty of threads to express these feelings in, not disputing or debating but this seems a pretty blatant departure for, posts of this vein don't you think?

Even a very poor performing employee in any work place gets thanked for their service after it doesn't work out, that's all this is.
OH yeah my bad. I didn't mean to put in things that way.

I like LVG. I would thank him for introducing possession football, some youth players etc.

Had his ups and downs but I think he'll have a positive lasting impact. At the very least, we know nobody wants us to play that way ever again!

But seriously, we've won something again and we've overhauled the squad quickly. He's handled the media well and protected his players. Thanks and goodbye to the Dutch Lounatic

Thank you for the cup, some good moments and bringing up exciting youngsters. It should have been much better but it hasn't. Enjoy the retirement.

I feel sorry for the guy.
I wanted him gone to be honest. It just didn't work out. I thought our fortunes changed at the end of last season when our football and results improved dramatically, but this season has been a failure.

Going with his head held high....Winning the first trophy post Fergie, with a local lad, who he gave a chance to on his very first league match, scoring a beauty of a winner.

Top bloke, unlimited respect, disappointed it wasn't as successful but, it just fell below expectations.

Thanks for the FA Cup.

Thanks for playing the young players, and for buying Martial.

Thanks for making us relevant in big games again.

Thanks for jumping on the ground against Arsenal

Thanks for making Fellaini useful.

He looks/sounds so sad in his press conference
Really?:( That's a bit painful to hear. But at least he goes with a trophy and dignity in tact.

Thanks for the FA Cup and giving the youth a chance. Otherwise it didn't work out as I thought it would. Oh well, enjoy your retirement(?).

(Sure he's reading this)

Thank you LvG for everything good and positive. To bad regarding those negative things like boring football, also hope that his unseen work has positive influence on our future, same as his trust in young players (dont care about moronic statements like "he is lucky" when we win,"he didnt have a choice"regarding giving a chance to youth, nonsense,"we won spite of him not because of him" yea lol, they can feck off)

Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.

Seriously though. His handling of the press has been the highlight of the last two seasons and giving youth players their chances. Just not able to get us where we need to be with the other managerial appointments to our rivals. Best decision to be made really.

Sure he's disappointed. I think he loves the job and I think he certainly had no intention of letting go easy. The club have been fair by him and I'm happy for him and the players. It was important to win the trophy and the players showed good spirit for him when they went one down. Good luck to him - it's not personal. Just that I think the smaller squad hurt us and I think the players were full of mixed messages. Even today - when we were positive we created chances but we didn't see that spirit for much of the season.

OH yeah my bad. I didn't mean to put in things that way.

I like LVG. I would thank him for introducing possession football, some youth players etc.

Apologies I think I quoted the wrong person originally

Always liked the bloke, maybe not his style of football or the results as much.
Thank you for the cup LVG, enjoy Portugal!

I admire LVG, the man, a lot: his values and principles, his integrity and his humour are characteristics I'm strongly attracted to. I also admire how he was unafraid to aggressively assert his point of view. He did not hold back in his squad selection, choice of tactics and his beliefs in young players. It may not all have been a resounding success, but his impending retirement nullified a longer engagement.

Although we have endured many snooze bore afternoons of rubbish football and also some very crude tactical choices, he does leave behind a winning team who are very good at defending, retaining the ball and possession and a potentially potent and very youthful front line. He also might have found Rooney a new position too.

If this is my goodbye note to him, I'd rather thank him for his many positive contributions rather than repeat the moans and frustrations of past 18 months. He has had one of the elite global coaching careers and literally won it all, including our first post SAF trophy. For that i offer my humble thanks and sincere best wishes.

There is no way we would have come from behind to win with ten men under Moyes. He put some pride and confidence back into the club after the lows of Moyes. That for me is his biggest achievement.

Thank you LVG, you steadied the ship slightly after Moyes, gave us an FA Cup and many funny moments, enjoy your retirement.

Really?:( That's a bit painful to hear. But at least he goes with a trophy and dignity in tact.

Yeah it didn't have the arrogance/swagger he normally has. Maybe you could say it was just emotion from winning but I think it hit him that it was his last game as manager for anyone. I can say this now but I am glad he went out on a relative high and now has the thanks of a lot of fans.

Thank you for your time and service. And then FA Cup.

No thank you for everything else.

Nothing to thank him for. Boring football, pathetic results, yet still as arrogant and condescending towards the fans. So relieved to see the back of him, a dark, dark chapter in the history of Manchester United finally over.

Goodbye Louis, I hope your retirement is very good, you gave us many interesting moments. Unfortunatley, most of them were negative. But you have won us a trophy so thank you for that :) We have been a very boring team to watch under your management so that is a negative point against you, and is really the reason why I hope you retire .

I think him and United were simply a poor match. I can't lie,I won't look back at his reign with fond memories. It was very painful at times

But as a football manager,he goes out with 20 major titles. Well done on that.

Goodbye and goodlucj.

Thanks for the FA Cup.

Thanks for the drunk end of year award speech.

Thanks for the fall against Arsenal.

Thanks for the many amazing press conferences.

Thanks for Martial and Rashford.

It is a shame it didn't work because I really like the man but results was not good enough. We need a new man in charge and I think Jose is the right man.

Thanks Louis, sorry it didn't work out as well as planned, but glad you won us a trophy and can go out on a high.

Thank you for our first FA Cup in 12 years, for stabilising the club after Moyes, getting Martial in, Rashford, Lingard and some thoroughly enjoyable wins over our nearest rivals.

His press conferences were more interesting than the football we played. Spent a lot of money but did feck all, although he did sign Martial.

Leaves us with our first major trophy post Ferguson. Enjoy retirement. I'm glad he's gone.

Fare well, and thank you for everything you've done. Sorry it hasn't worked out, sadly you weren't up for the job.
Enjoy retirement.

Loving Paddy Crerand on the 5 live call in.

It's 100% over.

I honestly enjoyed it. In the end a run of games stretching about 10 games cost him the job. We improved after new years and started to see a bit of excitement. Don't think he's done enough in the transfer market either, with rojo and darmian barely looking like players and herrera looking like a europa league level midfielder.

Bit sad that the likes of lingard, rashford and CBJ have likely made their last meaningful contribution to the club, it is nice that we have something to remember that era of players by winning the cup today.

Looking forward to next season even if style of football moves dramatically more defensive, should bring some good nights and hopefully some good counter attacking goals/good team performances

Thank you for repairing the Moyes mess, for signing some very decent players when we needed them, for returning us to the Champions League (for one season at least), for repairing our confidence in big games, and most importantly for winning us the FA Cup

Enjoy your retirement after a tremendous career

Van Gaal was made for Utd in many ways. Blatant disregard for the press which made a welcome change from Moyes apologetic efforts, true "team" mentality like SAF, you cross him or the team and you are gone plus his introduction of the young players (yes this was deliberate and he deserves credit). If only the football hadn't been so dull!!

I thank him for all those things and a few good signings but now looking forward to next season again!
