Tennis Thread 2014

Shame. He did not have to lose this. Djokovic got lucky there. Dimitrov needs to work on his composure when serving in tight situations, it seems. That double fault lost him the match.

He got lucky on some crucial points I thought. Dimitrov deserved to take it to 5.

Can't believe people are having a go at Djokovic and the way he plays tennis. Wondering if these people actually watch tennis.

He has been involved in some of the best matches in tennis history.

Federer could be number 3 in the world soon, which is ridiculously impressive for a player who turns 33 in a few weeks.

Just saw the score and this could be shorter than a woman's match!

Hard to see Fed losing to anyone in such form. Djoko will need his very very best to make a match of it. Fed will take the final in 4 is my prediction.

Vintage Federer so far. Some of those volleys and half volleys were unreal.

Only saw around half the points due to the WC, but Federer looked very impressive. Proving once again that nobody deals better with serve monsters than him. I expected at least 2 tie breakers, but he completely outplayed him.

33 :( this is probably his last and best chance to win another grandslam. What a career.

No one will ever catch his Wimbledon record, and most likely his overall Slam record. We've been lucky to have witnessed his career.
Nadal could do the latter. Hopefully federer can increase the gap and make his task harder.

I thought Rafa may be able to do it, but I don't know if he can maintain his slam winning form as long as Fed has. Rafa strikes me as a 17-29 type player - exploded onto the scene at an early age (like Becker) then went downhill in his late 20s. Also, I think men's tennis is in a transitional period where a new group of young guns are emerging, which will make it harder for Rafa and Novak to maintain their dominance.

Anyone watching now? Laconte and Bahrami in the seniors.

Laconte just served a ball onto the roof and then challanged the call

I hope someone is recording, because I can't watch that match. Bahrami is in my personal top 3 of all time and I can almost never watch him. :(

Bahrami just threated a 145 mph serve, so the other guy stood well back, Bahrami then made it look like he was gonna absolutely smash it, then did a drop shot serve all in one movement

I'm probably going to cause a big argument here, but... I bloody can't stand Federer and hope he gets absolutely smashed in the final.

It's brilliant, I love the umpire calling a double fault

I don't know what the hell is going on with the senior but it was the greatest thing in tennis history.

It'll be on iPlayer at some point so you'll be able to catch it.

It's going to be a close one if Fed wins this, that'll be 18-14. Rafa will add a couple more French, but he looks unlikely to win another Wimbledon so he will need to become dominant on hard court. We can never say never as far as his Wimby titles goes, I doubt anyone thought Sampras record would ever be matched but it was.

I have no experience with the iPlayer. Does it work in Germany? I really crave for new Bahrami footage. Greatest entertainer in tennis. Had he not been banned from playing tennis from his own government, he might be one of the all time greats. Unrivaled feeling for the ball.

Ah right, its a BBC player so you'd need a proxy to watch it so it thinks your in the UK. When it goes up I'll see if I can download it and get it to you somehow.

Yes, we watch tennis and get bored shitless with endless baselining. Big girl's blouse tennis.

I was pleased to see Dimitrov downing one of the dull bastards in Murray. Thwock-thwock-thwock..... zzzzzzz.

Raonic might be a bit immobile and heavy on his feet, but I hope he does well. Tennis needs more players who attack. Dimitrov looks a proper player.

Just wanted to note what a storming Wimbledon it's been for Canadian tennis, regardless of what happens in the women's final. Haven't seen this kind of presence in my lifetime for sure, possibly ever.

Also, Genie:drool:

I can't remember any big time Canadian tennis players. I know Mary Pierce was born in Montreal but she represented France; similar issue with Greg Rusedski and Britain.

Yeah I'm no expert on tennis at all but I can't recall a single player even making an impact in a major tournament, let alone two semi finalists at once.
