Tennis Thread 2014

Holy crap, Boris Becker looks more and more like his own caricature.

Djokovic doing some strategic grunting always when he's BP down, poor sportsmanship.

I just thought it harsh since he does have one of the widest ranges ofshot selection alongside Federer. Never managed to bore me, except when he goes on a long run of unforced errors. A matter of opinion I guess.

It's just the play style. He grinds down opponents and plays more like a machine than a human. While there is a lot of variety in his shots, his patterns seem very monotonous to me. Add to that his questionable sportsmanship (ball bouncing, taking his time, injury time outs etc. - more in the past than now, sure, but still)... as I said, it's a matter of taste and some just prefer the offensive, all out attacking type, not the players who wait for the opponent to make an error or suffer a dip in their form.

All of that applies way more to Nadal than Novak.

I've never said I like Nadal. Guess that comes with being a Federer fan. However, I respect him tremendously and his game has way more of a unique, passionate feeling about it than Djokovic's.

Damn Dimitrov, why didn't you play like that in the breaker?!

I like Djokovic, I'm just not a fan of the way he plays tennis. I don't know what Nadal had to do with it though.

Fair play to Dimitrov here, thought he'd go quickly in straight sets. He deserves a 5th set if he can earn it here.

The fact that they're both defense oriented?
I know but we were discussing whether Djokovic is boring or not and then someone says Nadal is worse. I don't see how that's relevant. One being worse doesn't make the other generally better. We weren't comparing the two.

I know. I didn't bring him up. But no one said Nadal is worse, just similar.

Hope Dimitrov can make me eat my words from before and take it to a decider.

The two most flexible players on the tour. Amazing athletes.

The double fault again. Why, oh why...

Then he's clutch again. What a weird match.

Is someone from team Murray sneaking into his locker to grease his shoes? So many slips.

Good match. I doubt the next one will be as good but I won't be watching it, anyway. Back to the football.

Shame. He did not have to lose this. Djokovic got lucky there. Dimitrov needs to work on his composure when serving in tight situations, it seems. That double fault lost him the match.

Novak's attempt at serve and volley in the end was lol worthy

Djoko got lucky there.. was poor-ish in the fourth set. Still had no doubt he would win the fifth but this kind of game won't win against Roger.

The great players find a way to win. Novak has done that the last two rounds despite both opponents posing an awkward challenge.

At some point in that tiebreak Dimitrov just didn't believe.

Can't believe Dimitrov threw away 4 set points. At least he gets to go home to Sharapova.
