Tennis Thread 2014

Murray would have loved these conditions. If he'd have played anywhere near his ability he'd have beaten Dimitrov with some to spare, people have overstated Dimitrov's performance, it was mainly Murray being so bad that gifted him the win.

Djokovic is the tennis equivalent of 2010 Spain. He is very good and even more boring. Dimitrov must try to get the game out of Nole's comfort zone (these monotonic slow baseline borefests). He has one of the best sliced backhand and net play on the tour. He should use them more.

Very well put. It's something to admire, but not to enjoy.
Dimitrov needs to work on his forehand, he should be able to get more pace out of that stroke.

Oh, he actually got the rebreak. Keep it up!

Dimitrov seems to be finding his feet a bit now, Djokovic is going to have to step up, he's been cruising up till now.

Murray was shit and everyone acknowledged that. However, Dimitrov deserved all the praise he received. He did everything right in that game. Nobody said it's the performance of the century.

How on earth Djokovic's game boring?

Out of the big four, he has the most range in his shots apart from Federer.

This guy Dimitrov looks excellent, although this is only the second match I'm watching of him.

Dimitrov started using the sliced backhand much more, as I said he should, and it shows. He broke Nole's rhythm.

Sure, he's not as boring as Nadal and Murray. Doesn't mean he's not boring.

Djokovic has lost his shit, 5 consecutive games and a stupid challenge to gift the set. But no 2 sets are ever the same with this guy, I expect him to come out firing again in the 3rd.

Dimitrov is really getting into things. I like it. This is getting rather interesting.

@Vato:
No, that's Kyrgios. He's already gone out to Raonic yesterday.

Ah ok, cheers KM*. Seems like there's been quite a few surprises already then.

*edit - and Piratesoup

In hindsight, Murray losing to Dimitrov wasn't that much of a surprise, given Murrays season so far. Kyrgios was massive. 37 aces against Nadal in 4 sets. Not bad for a 19 year old.

Big difference between the two in their body language right now. Dimitrov needs to break before Nole wakes up. He has to win this set if he wants the match.

This is turning into a fantastic match thanks to Dimitrov. Great rally for the 5:5! I want to see this lad in the final so badly.

What a meek tie break from Dimitrov. No way he's coming back from 1:2 in sets against Djokovic. :(

Worst breaker ever. Djokovic did nothing special yet Dimitrov gifted him it.

I'm half hoping for a quick Djokovic win now because I don't want to have to choose between Federer and the german national team. Dilemma, dilemma.

All Andrew Castle talks about is the "top 4" and how there are 4 GS during the year. He says the same thing every single match, every single year at Wimbledon. Can't believe they have an idiot like this on main commentary.

Jesus christ, two double faults in a row, no first serve at all and an unforced error to top it of. What a disappointment. This is done and dusted.

Dimitrov gifts Djokovic another break and probably the match. Once again, Djokovic has done nothing.

It feels like this is Djokovic's biggest strenght: Not outright outclassing the opponent, but having them lower their levels at crucial points. That second and most of the third set was great, but as I thought, Dimitrov's not ready yet to take on the bore-machine.

Hate? Saying his game is boring is hardly hateful. It's a very widespread opinion.

That's like asking a United fan what City and Liverpool have ever done to him. Matter of personal taste, I guess.
