Appears Novak also lied on his Travel Declaration by stating that he had not travelled in the 14 days before he flew to Australia. He was seen in Serbia in late December and then in Spain on Jan 2nd.

I really don’t think they’ll cancel at this stage. If the appetite was genuinely there they’d have done it by now. They’re just trying to get through the worst of the public outcry and hope they can survive whatever’s left.
I think along with the fact that the Government had been seeking to extend yesterday's trial also till Wednesday, that seems to be their timeline by which they are ready to do whatever it is they have decided to do.

Yeah this is what I am thinking as well. Fundamentally nothing has changed - he’s still not vaccinated and doesn’t have a medical exemption which would make you wonder what the government are waiting for if they were going to turf him out.
They can only be thinking of letting him stay and how best to sell it to the public and how to best limit their damage before they make a statement.
I am confused about some aspects. Per reports if Djoko had to be re detained for the border entry to be re litigated then the minister had 4 hours post judgement yesterday to make that decision, which suggest the same can not be contested anymore and he can only be deported via special powers of the immigration minister. But then how did the other player get deported? Was her visa revoked via special powers also?
The 4 hrs was not a limit on a ministerial decision. I think it might have been the linit to appeal the court decision to release him from immigration detention.
The 2 others were deported after choosing not to dispute the visa cancellation.
Whatever visa or letter you have you still have to prove what you have signed for in your visa application.

If he doesn’t end up playing, I suspect the most likely reason will be that the Australian government will have held the threat of the exercise of ministerial discretion over him and he’ll leave voluntarily to avoid the three year ban, which they’ll forego if he does leave under those terms. They don’t want to get themselves in another legal mess.

I’m not so sure. Djokovic has put his cards firmly on the table with that tweet yesterday. He definitely intends on staying and I don’t see him backing away now to save any kind of face. He’s won as far as he is concerned so why make any kind of gratuitous move now ? Especially as to do so would further a cause that he either doesn’t give one shit about or clearly doesn’t even believe is real.

As I said, I don’t think it will happen and you’re probably right that he feels entirely vindicated but I just wonder would he gamble a few more potential wins in Australia for one with an already disrupted preparation. I suspect he wouldn’t or won’t but I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility.
I just don’t see him budging even with some kind of threat hanging over his head I guess is what I’m thinking. He strikes me very much as that type. And as you mentioned the Australian government won’t want another legal mess (which Djokovic will also be aware of) so he will push it to the absolute limit rather than agree a truce of sorts.
