Tennis 2021

same for me. Don’t know for sure but suffering from anxiety i feel so sorry for her if that’s what happened.
Yep was thinking this too. Such a big thing for her. Hope she's ok. It won't help having to put a mask on !

Really hope so. Watkins and Robson looked promising though too so fingers crossed
Who’s Watkins? I don’t recall her but I haven’t followed British tennis since Fred Perry retired.

The way she was breathing on the chair made it look more like a panic attack than an injury as such. But then again she was struggling for a while with it.
Hope she's okay. Looked completely fatigued at the end of that first set and into the second.
Just guessing but looked like she had a panic attack. Hope she's alright.

Didn’t the Aussie bird accuse her of faking it? I mean she was quick to accuse Ostapenko of that and said that a lot of players do that when they’re losing. Wonder why she didn’t come out with that bullshit after this match

Why on earth didn't they swap Emma's match with Barty's as her & Gauff were used to playing matches at night

Would make absolute sense.

18 years old, total outsider and wildcard, suddenly playing at Wimbledon live on the BBC, hyped to feck by the media and pundits. That's a massive deal of pressure for a teenager. Especially having to wait all day to play.

And any adrenaline from possible anxiety would have been accented by the hugely physically demanding task of actually playing a professional game of tennis. Her heart rate will have been flying. I feel for her.

She didn't accuse her opponent of faking it this time, she seemed quite gracious and wished her well. It was obvious something was very wrong when she didn't come back out.

Delighted that Federer is through. Having said that, I only saw the first set of this match and it's pretty clear that he can't win Wimbledon this year. He is absolutely nowhere near his 2017 level let alone his best form at this tournament (understandable given his age). Although he's won two matches in straight sets and another in four, it's clear that as soon as he meets someone of a genuinely high level he's going to struggle. And even if he gets past one of them, he can't beat Djokovic playing like this, that's for sure. It's a shame because this was pretty much his last shot at a GS IMO. Anyhoo, as a fan I just have to enjoy watching him while I can.

he won't beat djokovic, but his level went up a lot in the second and third sets. 1st set wasn't a good representation of his overall standard today.

1st Set Unforced Errors:
Federer 17 - 9 Sonego
Rest of the Match:
Federer 9 - 17 Sonego

Attacking with the backhand is still an issue, he's barely serving any aces, and he's missing low volleys. But his forehand is, more or less, working.

Unsurprisingly Wimbledon schedulers are defending their decision to put Emma on last, would love to know the reason why they couldn't have just switched Barty to playing then and put Emma on first so she wouldn't be waiting around hours to play again

Medvedev out is good for Federer. I
I'd expect him to make the SF at least. Still fancy Berretini to make the final vs Djokovic but Federer has a good chance here.

With all do respect to her, she’s an adult professional. Just because she’s British and in the very earliest stages of her career doesn’t mean she should be handled with kiddie gloves. Nobody within the Wimbledon scheduling team could have predicted she would have an anxiety attack (if that’s what it was). Up until then she has been incredible in front of the crowd and it raised her game. She then laughed and joked with the crowd after her last match as if she was a seasoned entertainer.

These things happen, they’re aware of it now and hopefully she gets all the support she needs because she’s got the potential to be a real star.

If anything the smarter argument is that the women should have been priority to play first, given they were always going to have to play today as well.

If the match had been played yesterday I think Medvedev would have gone through. Momentum shifted completely from one day to the other. Very unlucky

Things couldn’t have turned out better for Federer, he looked much better in the last match than at the start of last week and the draw isn’t tough with Zverev and Medvedev out. Berrettini losing his quarter final would make it perfect. This is the best chance he’ll have to win a final grand slam before retiring

Decent game between Jabeur and Sabalenka. Crowd is behind Jabeur who is playing well but Sabalenka looks too powerful. Jabeur is a delight to watch, though.

Just thinking that. Sabalenka though has a great serve to get her out of trouble but loving Jabeur’s range and guile.

Great news for Federer that Medvedev is out though he could have beaten him anyways. Give us the Djokovic vs Federer final people want.

That final could be ugly the way Federer is playing right now. And if Federer wins his next game he'll play that Felix chap I think who just beat him.

I think Berretini beats FAA personally . Should be some fun quarterfinal matchups though.

What the feck is Tracy Austin wearing? Looks like she’s been attacked by someone with a Bottle of ink

Think it's a bit dull myself. The new generation does nothing for me, such an uninspiring bunch.
Maybe it's cause I play regularly now after taking a decade plus off but I'm more into it now than ever. Bought new shoes and a new racquet recently. Also makes me shit talk them less seeing as they'd all beat me comfortably.

Haven't been following too closely. Is Djokovic and Kerber taking the titles what most people expect?

Djokovic is a bigger favorite than Kerber for sure. Barty will be dangerous and I have Sabalenka as my women's pick to win it all.

That was a really impressive match and a great match up of styles. Sabalenka has grown into the tournament now and will take some stopping.

The semis will be tight but can see a Sabalenka - Kerber final and will be interesting to see how that pans out with Sabalenka's power vs Kerber's defence.

She beats Pliskova and she becomes the favourite IMO

Pliskova is playing really well but at 6’2” she needs that ball to come on to her more than Aryna who’s more athletic. I can see Her moving Pliskova around more

His serve was pretty off by his standards two years ago as well and then he suddenly stepped it up vs Rafa and Djokovic. He's also got a walkover to the semis so you never know, it'll be final match vs Novak. Form may not dictate he'll win but he needs one day for his serve to work and Novak to have an off day.

Cracking doubles match on right now

He got both in 2019 and bungled it at 2 Championship points.

2 years older and rusty? Pigs will fly before he can beat Djokovic over 5 sets.

Didn't realise Medvedev had lost. Still wouldn't bet too much on Fed getting to the final. He just seems "off" in a way he wasn't before. Lots of loopy shots for no reason.

His best performance was vs Cilic at French. If he was playing like that, winners from both sides and flat hitting, I'd be more confident of him getting there and doing some damage to Novak (not winning, but taking a set).
