Big win. Do something with it, get to final. And do a bit of a favour there.
Shame about Roger.
Shame about Roger.
It would be but I doubt Federer would entertain that idea. The pay is way less and the skill set is different than singles( though Federer has that skill set ) .Think it may be time for Federer to call it a day I know Hurkacz is playing well (from my inexpert opinion) but peak Federer would be usually putting up a far stiffer challenge at least
I know he's done all that rehab but maybe his body can't cope any more
Announce it in front of the fans
I don't play tennis and only usually watch some of the men's matches at Wimbledon but would doubles be a bit easier for him?

I disagree. This is still early in his comeback and more tournaments and more tennis will get him back into rhythm. Physically I don't think there will be much difference between this year and next year. He lost because of some incredible unforced errors today. Play this match over tomorrow and he will still be favorite. Novak is of course a problem but he is not unbeatable no matter how good he is.
Credit to Hurkacz there. Applauding Federer off and realising that the crowd would want to show their appreciation to Federer rather than focus on him was mature.
He couldn't stop smiling about what he had done either
I was just thinking thisBig win. Do something with it, get to final. And do a bit of a favour there.

Federer should play one more Wimbledon next year and announce he's retiring there. He's not winning any more Grand Slams that much is obvious but one last year on the tour to retire at 40 would be fitting.
His last set at Wimbledon can't be getting bageled by Hurkacz
The difference is he didn't have two knee surgeries in 2017.I genuinely believe he'll want to do it once actually in his 40's. But his timing is well off and a lot of that could be down to his fitness to get to the shot, if that's the case, there's logically no upside, if he just needs more game time, then maybe he can another few decent QF runs. But his win at the Aussie in 17' suggests he doesn't need this much game time to find his rhythm... if he'd played the Aussie this year, I'd say there's a big chance he'd retire after the US, but he didn't and I'm sure he'd like to play there just one more time.... which suggest he'd be on tour next year.
Agreed, especially the bolded.Federer should play one more Wimbledon next year and announce he's retiring there. He's not winning any more Grand Slams that much is obvious but one last year on the tour to retire at 40 would be fitting.

It's not as linear as you make it out to be. Yes he will be older but if he stays injury free from now till then, I'd argue it's very likely he comes into next year's Wimbledon in better physical condition. He can easily make the quarters at such a specialist surface and he will back himself. If I was advising him I'd say take the Olympics off, play a couple tournaments before the US open and try to have a good run there. Next year announce its his final year and it can be his farewell tour in front of full crowds chanting his name. Yes its looking like he won't win another major but he will still back himself especially on grass. He's going to be a year older and accordingly, a year less effective. Combine that with the reality of Djokovic's dominance and a new crop of young players just hitting their prime, and the cost/benefit of Fed continuing to actually win Wimbledon will be a bit daunting. I say to actually win since I doubt he would stay on just to bow out in the fourth round next year.

Oh wow, Jerzy Janowicz, what ever happened to him. Think he was one of the first generations who were gonna take over from the big 3.Janowicz is number 514 atm, if anyone was wondering where's the last Polish player that reached Wimbledon SF before Hurkacz.

Yeah Gulbis was insanely talented, but simply didn't give a feck. Doesnt he also have extremely rich parents or something?even after that Wimbledon semifinal, he simply couldn't beat anyone in GS for the next 2 years. he had plenty of injuries since 2015 but he was never really that good in the first place. when you're 2.04m tall and with good draw, there's always a chance to fluke it at Wimbledon somehow, which is what happened with him.
Gulbis was far more interesting case to me. his RG 2014 run was ridiculous, in particular matches with Fed and Berdych. he never really had dedication and that was obvious from the start but reminded me of Safin in those rare matches he turned up.

Bookies offering pretty good odds on Shapo, having seen Novak so far in this wimby I’m not convinced that he can beat the Canadian, who has been showing great tennis so far and cut back on his errors greatly.Hoping Shapo can make things competitive today and show a bit more composure on big points. Heart says a four or five setter but head says comfortable win for Djokovic. If he can just stay a little more patient he can cause problems for Novak.
This. What a complete wankers to force a 4th set.stop resisting Hurkacz, we all want to watch Djokovic and Shapo
