Tennis 2021

I thought it was like 10 years ago when a 16 or 17 year old Shapovalov showed some great quality in beating Nadal at one of the Summer Masters .... stunned he's still only 22 and it was actually only 5 years ago.

Logic from the others in his generation - Zverev, Danlil, Tsipi etc - suggests his kicking on run should be here or the US. Good core of talent really, but I still find it mad they seem to hit their stride so late now. But I guess that's just life, teenage immaturity lasts far longer now.

Looking at this doubles match from last night I think Watson should just stick to playing that, has looked a complete shadow of her former self in singles since that heart breaking loss to Serena a few years ago

Korda looks pretty good. Nice win over Evans.

Shapo vs Murray now.

I worry that it's got into Dan's head now that he hasn't made the 4th round of Wimbledon yet and is holding him back, maybe there is also elements of his game that still aren't at the level in order to make that step to a second week of a slam regularly

He does seem to put a lot of pressure on himself after losing certain points and I think it doesn't help him as much as someone like Murray for eg. That said yesterday was definitely a skill gap. Korda would have troubled most players on that kinda form.

Raducanu has started well, serve broken in the fourth set, instantly broke back in the fifth and held in the sixth. Looks like she’s had a taste of the crowd and loves it.

And then broke her serve in the next set.

And just won the first set 6-3

Yep, it's a real match now. A good watch as well, youth v experience and all that.

Raducanu gets to match point three times and is pegged back twice before finally winning it. Real show of nerve in that second set from her.

Brilliant match. Just won! 18 year old, super talented and looks like a model. Think she might have a career ahead of her!

And she's happy to be in front of a crowd as well. The sponsors must be falling over themselves to get to her

half chinese half romanian

Britains next tennis superstar...

bloody immigrants

Yeah she’s a sponsors dream  casually joking with a full crowd at Wimbledon at 18. Think I’d have shat my pants and walked off in tears at that age.

yeah its inevitable isnt it
I must admit when the first thing I read in her bio was "born in Canada" I assumed she was someone who we grabbed from a training program when she was 16 or something. Then I heard her speak and read the follow-up that she's lived in London since her parents moved there when she was two. :D

Federer with the break. Gonna switch over to FAA Kyrgios now.

Federer and Kyrgios take the first sets. Kyrgios had to take a medical timeout though.

Well that was anticlimactic. Shame he had to retire. Federer about to serve for the second set.

Made the 2nd week, but boy is he looking shaky right now. Being this hard pressed on your own serve regularly on grass is never a good sign.

the point that took him to 40-30in the last game is i think my favourite type of federer point.
important point, doesn't get an ace or a massive serve, but a precise serve that sets up a forehand from the middle of the court.
