Tennis 2021

Rublev with a good win over Harris as well.

Medvedev vs Alcaraz should be a banger today.

Well done to Ash Barty, lovely to watch. Comes across as a real nice person.

Oh Utd fan apparently:devil:

I do understand the preference towards British players but having Dan Evans on Centre Court ahead of Djokovic is strange to me. The one time I had Centre Court tickets was great, as I got to see Nadal but unfortunately it also meant having Edmund and Konta play instead of some more interesting players.

Not many people want to see Djokovic obliterate some rando every round. You tend to get better matches with the unseeded Brits partly because they play their absolute heart out. It's usually only for the first few rounds until they're all inevitably knocked out, and then you get endless Djokovic/Nadal/Federer/Murray games - though this time around with no Nadal and a starting-to-get past it Murray and Federer, it's not obvious to me who you're going to see on centre court, so there's plenty of slots for guys like Evans and Norrie

With no surprise at all, Gasquet bottles it in the tie breaker.

23 sets in a row now for Federer.

Bottles it, sure.
He did, he was woeful, has weak mentality as evident by 4-0 in the second set. Outstanding anybody thinks otherwise. Then again if it was anyone other than Federer he would be called a bottler or weak..

I never expected him to win but I'm quite surprised Federer is struggling so much in these early rounds. Thought he'd be a lot stronger, quarterfinal at least, but it's hard to see him going deep.

How did the bottle job happen?
First point on his serve Federer plays a short ball, Gasquet has up the line or across the court with the back hand completely free and he hits it closer to the middle and Federer picks it up. Second point was an unforced error. Also done a double fault.

Getting to a quarterfinal is definitely doable. Has Norris next and then either Sonego or Duckworth.

His level would have to go up by a lot to get further than that though

Yeah, I suppose the draw means he can be far below his best and still reach the quarters. Played well this set, hopefully he'll slowly play his way into the tournament.

So he wasn’t up like 5-0 then?

None of what you said is a bottle job, Federers better, substantially so… so unless you are basically Nadal/Novak or handful newgen in the top 10… a bottle job is nigh on impossible in my version of what a ‘bottle’ is. Otherwise were using it endlessly… and it means nothing.

Federer clearly raised his game and played a brilliant tie break. Typically childlike argument to call every player doing badly against someone you have an agenda against as bottling. Hardly as of Guasquet had something to throw away and hence bottle. If Federer raises his game he actually cannot do much about it due to the gap in ability.

Good for you guys having a different definition of 'bottle'.. bottled it, blew it, messed up, was woeful. Call it what you want, after he lost the first point he was gone, end of and to claim it's childish is laughable. You're just being pedantic for no reason. You know he was woeful in the tie-breaker, why the need to suggest otherwise? And to further add to 'Federer raising his game' yeah that makes someone hit an unforced error, do a double fault and blow an easy shot.

Federer excellent play for those three Gasquet errors, some step up.

Your initial post was childish... so if we counter it by being childish, that's on you ;)

Don't embarrass yourself further. Post sensibly and maybe you won't talk random nonsense.

Gasquet didn't blow anything. He's just 35 himself and no longer very good. Federer playing at 80% of his level will eat him for breakfast. You're just whinging becuase he didn't beat someone you despise. Nobody is giving Federer big credit either so you can relax , he's expected to Gasquet

Special mention should go to Raducanu who clearly is better at closing out games better than other brits

Federer's the best ever, deal with it!

Yup looking forward to that. Norrie will be a good test for Federer too. FAA vs Kyrgios and Medvedev vs Cilic also potential ties of the round.
Jabeur vs Muguruza another potential great match on today too.

Korda looks pretty good. Nice win over Evans.

Shapo vs Murray now.
