Tennis 2019

Nishikori and Goffin are effectively replacing Berdych, Gasquet and Tsonga. They all decent players and made a lot of money. But besides the odd times they never troubled the big three enough. The excuse you could give for the likes of the latter three is they faced the big three in their peaks and Murray was there too.

Murray has to be disappointed he’s got injured. Federer and Nadal have revived themselves since 2017 whilst sadly for Murray he’s been injured otherwise we would have a big four semi final.

Also I’m going to defend Nishikori. Even if he had pulled off a shock today, he would still have to beat Nadal in the semis and then Djokovic in the final. That’s just impossible.

All the semi finalists again this year at Wimbledon are over 30.

The issue with Zverev and co is they need to look at Murray. Murray kept losing to the big three. But in some tournaments he’d beat one of them but lose to the other in a final. More importantly he’d put himself in a position to face them by seeing off the other players and reaching a semi final or final. Where as all these so called next gen players aren’t even losing to the big three.

I don't like Kei but at least he makes the quarters at every slam and loses to the big boys . The younger generation is just awful. Kyrgios was out drinking the night before he played Rafa . Zverev can't make the second week and Thiem is useless outside clay. It's just sad how even on grass it is so easy for the big 3

Querrey must be pissed by not winning a single set after 22 aces.

He hit 14 aces in the first set and still lost it. He hit 6 aces in ONE game at one point! Before this match he'd been broken once all tournament and in this match he got broken 6 times. You can ace all you want but if you're a serve bot with pretty much nothing else in your game, if you meet a good opponent who gets a good read on your serve, you're toast.

Goffin is way too injury prone to be even counted as consistent feature on the tour and Kei is always so tired by the time he reaches the QF, he's a non entity in these matches. But yes I have more respect for a Kei rather than the whole generation of Zverev, Tsiptspas, Dimitrov etc because atleast he makes it to the point that he loses to one of the Big 3. The rest are just utterly hopeless.

Guessing Nadal and Federer will go second on centre court tomorrow.

I hope we avoid last year's farce

Anyone have any idea what time Nadal Federer might be tomorrow? Would love to make plans to watch it but strongly suspect I'll be firmly in work when its on.

Federer Nadal will definitely be the second match on CC. The forecast looks better now though so hopefully no roof.

Novak vs RBA is at 1pm tomorrow and Rafa vs Roger is on after that match.

They won't be simultaneously played. They'll announce the OOP today.

Novak vs RBA is at 1pm tomorrow and Rafa vs Roger is on after that match.
Great. That means I have a chance of catching a glimpse of the Fedal match if both matches go on for long enough. But for that I really need RBA to give Novak a tight match. Even if it ends in four, I want four tight sets with a couple of tie-btreaks thrown in for good measure so that the match at very least approaches three hours.

I'm predicting a final Novak - Rafa, with Novak taking the title home. Federer at his current age, will take each game as it comes, despite doing a quite solid season this year.

Strykova getting dominated.
Is she really hurt? Would explain the scoreline, though she seems to be moving perfectly fine at times.

Anyone else just not watch the women’s only day. The matches are just way too short and I feel sorry for people who buy tickets for these days. Atleast with the men you guaranteed extra sets.

The excuse that women can’t play 5 sets is due to tv companies. But on womens only day there’s no excuses. Make them play 5 sets on those days and give people who paid money for the tickets value for money.

Why? People would have tickets knowing that they will only see women's matches. Also, at Wimbledon a ticket for second Friday (men's SFs) is more expensive than second Thursday (women's SFs) anyway.

Because nearly all of the semi finals end in a hour. Which isn’t the case with the mens.

Last time a women’s semi final went three sets was in 2015.

Blimey I didn't realise that. Given their draws tend to be more unpredictable, I'm a little surprised at that.

I can see Nadal giving him a bit of a doing tomorrow. I've not been absolutely convinced by Federer this tournament and I think his backhand will be made to break down early on if Rafa keeps at it.

I actually fancy Rafa to win in straights, as odd as that might sound.

If you take form into it, Rafa's got to be the clear winner but yet it's Wimbledon and Federer rules here so I'd still have him as favorite despite his average performances here so far.

I honestly don't think this Federer, against this Nadal and Djokovic, does rule here, grass or not.

If Nadal doesn't beat a near 38 year old Federer, he should pack it in. He and Djokovic should be the favorites against him always now.

The question for Fed fans is whether we want him to somehow win the semi and then lose yet another final to Novak, or to lose the semi and extend the horrendous H2H. Winning either match is almost impossible, and winning both is ...

It's grass. I'd just never not expect him to do well even against those guys. If he can get his serve firing again, he's got a great chance.

Federer still plays really good tennis and he showed that in the RG semi when he more than gave Rafa a run for his money irrespective of the scoreline. This here is Rafa's weakest surface and Federer's strongest so Federer's always got a great chance.

Again, if he can't beat a guy 5 years older than him, then the problem is him.

Federer has always been 5 years elder than Nadal so the age different doesn't really matter and if you've seen Federer running around and hitting some astonishing passing shots, you'd not think he's 37. Their last 6 meetings are 5-1 in Federer's favor with all 5 of those wins coming in the not so distant past. At Wimbledon, Roger will always be the man to beat. If Rafa loses tomorrow, there's absolutely no shame in it and he certainly doesn't need to "pack it in".

He’s always been 5 years older than him. Nadal isn’t some spring chicken either. He’s 33 which is old for tennis terms and Federer is just older.

Age isn’t a factor. Were you saying Federer should pack it in when he was losing to a teenager? Should all the ATP players pack it in because they losing to a 38 year old?

That win for Nadal at the French was vital as he’s got the losing streak off his back. But grass is Federers best surface regardless of age.

I know people love Federer and for his age he is doing brilliantly. But Nadal at 33 is doing a lot more than what Federer was doing at 33. Federer before 2017 had not won a slam in his 30s and he didn’t really look like winning one for a few years in his thirties.

I remember Federer fans making statements like Nadal would be finished in his mid twenties because of his style. Then they pushed it to late twenties and then 30s. Yet here is in another semi final of a slam.

Nadals made semis or above in last 7 slams. But yeah he should pack it in.

He's been by and far the most consistent since 2017 across all surfaces but yeah, one defeat and seems he should pack it in. He's actually done far better than expected with the players he's had in his draw as opposed to the other two. Whatever happens for the rest of the tournament, he's already had a great fortnight.

Come on Federer!!!!

I actually don't fancy Federer's chances today. For the first time I'd say Nadal the favourite in this contest on grass. He's in better form than Federer, and the courts are fecking slow again. Federer is barely able to fit many aces against good players, so not much hope for him racking them up against Nadal.

But you never know. If Federer hits his first serves (even without aces) and gets his groundstrokes, especially his backhand going, he could dictate the match. Hope he puts out a top peformance.

Both Federer and Nadal have said the courts are no slower or faster than the last few years (when Federer won as well) so that's no excuse really tbh. The court conditions though are awful and the grass is completely worn out at the baseline.

It's men's semifinals day and I'm home and present for this:drool:

We know Novak will be one of the finalists, and I have a feeling the other will be Rafa.

Fed playing ok, but just think he won't win today:(

There's no way Federer v Nadal starts at 3pm UK time, is there? Assuming the other game takes around 2 hours, the game will start at around 4pm UK time or something like that?

Bautista Agut has beaten Djokovic in their last 2 meetings.
Both were on hardcourt though, I don't think he stands much of a chance today if I'm honest. If Djokovic plays at the level he displayed against Goffin in the second and third set, he's nearly unbeatable at the moment.

I'd say there's usually about half an hour between matches

Yeah that's what I thought. Hopefully I can get out of the office by 5 and I only miss the first set or so.

Bautista Agut has lost one set all tournament. Won’t be easy for Djokovic, especially since he hasn’t played too well aside from the Goffin match

RBA better give Djokovic a hard and especially long match so I'm home in time for Nadal Federer.
