The post match interview is more entertaining than the match itself.

Feeling a bit ominous about meeting Cilic this time. Roger has been criminally undertested this tournament bar the first set against Berdych and a few games at best against Gasquets. Been losing a lot of the longer rallies and Cilic is more than capable of turning it into a battle of attrition, plus, his serve.

Gotta have to bring his A game on Sunday. 38C during the day forecasted so it could be still quite stuffy by the time they start as well.

Bet Cilic bends over. Easy win in 3 sets for fed under 2 hours.

I think so. Everytime these 'future stars' face Fed/Nad in finals, people claim that they will give a good match and put the old guys at trouble but it never happens.

I think this will be Fed's 20th grand slam and it won't be his last. Assuming that he skips clay season, he is gonna get Wimbledon too.

Not sure if he'll miss the entire clay court season this time. He's not that far behind Nadal, and just needs to pick up a few points to get world no. 1. Nadal himself is defending a lot of points going into the clay court season and might not be in great shape (Nadal takes a long time to really get back after his injuries)

I would predict so too.

As for Chung, injury or not.. I think he was going to be outclassed. Federer's movement, and ability to play games with Chung, mixing it up.. his serve - was too much.

Important lesson for Chung to realise how much he has to do to become a great player and not another wasted talent like the rest of his peers. Areas he needs to focus on:

  • Serve
  • Net play/general lack of feel
  • In game tactical acumen
  • Top spin lob
  • Upper Body strength to match his legs
Exciting talent, but lots to be done still. Funnily enough I am quite excited to see him on Clay.. think it could suit him.

Got up earlier to watch Federer but he’d already won due to Chung’s injury. Too bad.

What’s going to be Chung’s ranking next week?

Except Cilic isn't a 'future star'. He is an established top 10 player, already won a Slam which btw he crushed Fed in the semi to win, made Wimbledon final last year as well.

Granted, USO is a much slower hard court than the Australian one, but 2014 Federer was pretty good as well, made 11 finals inc. Wimbledon, won 5 titles. I think if Fed brings his A game it'll be a 3 or 4 set win but if he gets off to a bad start like again Berdych and Cilic doesn't choke away the opportunity then anything can happen.

Agree with you. Won't be much of a surprise if Cilic wins, though I still think Federer will lift his 20th GS.

Like Berdych and Del Potro, Cillic definitely fits neatly into the bracket of the sort of player who could cause Federer big problems on a hard court - not least in that he did it on the way to winning his slam - in that he has the power to really hit through him and take away the time Federer needs to move his opponent around the court, but I wonder has one big advantage for him, the extra day of rest, perhaps been blunted by the fact that Federer didn't seem to have had to expend a massive amount of energy today. So, presuming his back is okay, he should be pretty fresh for the final. I fancy Federer to win in four, but I wouldn't be massively confident about that prediction.

Really looking forward to Halep v Wozniacki, too. If they both play well at the same time, it could be a real classic. I have an inkling for Wozniacki, probably based upon the fact I trust Halep slightly less not to come asunder when the pressure is on.

Cilic can surely cause problems for Fed. It's still on Fed's racket tho as if he brings his A game he'll win.

There's slightly worrying part that he hasn't really been tested so far in the tournament, whilst Cilic has played some gruesome matches already. Hopefully he kicks it right in and not allow complacency in the first set.

Bit harsh perhaps but I think he should at least have seen out the set if it was just blisters that were bothering him. Taking the Novak comparisons a bit too far for me.

His coach said that he's been getting nasty painkiller injections for the last 3 matches and had the blister(s) since the Auckland QF. Chung will now have to do absolutely nothing for 5 to 7 days. Here's what his foot looked like right after the match:

Nobody should expected to just walk around a court for two sets with a wound like that while being absolutely butchered by Federer. What would be the point?

Damn, don't know how he played so long with blisters like that. I remember when I stood on something which cut the bottom of my foot and I went to football training a few days later. Even with it wrapped up it was uncomfortable as feck and i had to sit it out.

His foot wouldn't exactly have fallen off if he'd stuck it out two more points til the end of the set.

Can't wait for Halep vs Wozniacki, one of those that could either be one of the matches of the year or an utter shitfest with the pressure getting to them both. Rooting for Halep after her performances against Davis and Kerber but I agree with Brophs that Caro's the slightly less likely to crumble under the weight of expectation.

Just noticed Federer is only 14 away from breaking Connors' all time singles titles record of 109. He would need to play about two years of top tennis to do it.

Cilic will give him a better game than he did at Wimbledon but can't see anything other than a comfortable Federer victory.

Hope Halep finally gets a Major today. Can't stand Wozniacki...

Cilic can beat anyone on his day on a fast surface like the one athe AO. I mean if he goes for it and keeps connecting he'll just over power most opponents. A bit like Del Potro but not to that extent.

No chance the final is a foregone conclusion.

Standard's not been great in this third set but I'm loving how tense it is. Too close to call right now.

That gotta hurts.

3 finals, 3 losses. She fought and fought though, kudos.

On balance, Wozniacki deserves it. The game was largely on her racquet, just made way more mistakes.

Three games in a row for Wozniacki to finish it. Should have seen that coming...

Wonderful ladies final! So happy for Caroline one of my favourite players.

Well done Caroline. Halep will win her grand slam, but happy for Caroline.

Feck. I like Halep, wanted her or Kerber to win it, shame their match wasn't the final.

Was hoping Halep would get this one. In either case, its good to see Wozniaki get one before Serena is back at Indian Wells.

Very tense final, but my dvr cut out 3 games into the 3rd. Bugger!
Happy for Wozniacki but Halep sure made it interesting.

Guess who is going to the final y'all!

So excited, but it's still blazing hot at 6 pm. The day when Roger lost to Novak was similarly stuffy, hope it doesn't repeat itself.

Edit: Roof closed and air conditioned.

For real? Daaayum. You lucky bastard.

Why didn't they close the roof last week when it was hotter and players out there during the day?

First set pretty much done.

Cilic's return is kind of mediocre this set.

Watching Roger in person is just so... special. I know books have been written on this subject but he's just serene on the court.

Where are you sitting and do you have a Caf-Sign you can hold into the camera?
