Didn't expect that after the start at all. Shame I could only watch 15 minutes of it. :(

GSM Federer.

Looked pretty good today. Over 60 winners for 3 sets.

The match against Chung will be tricky. He knew Berdych inside and out.
I think the opposite. Berdych got the serve to trouble him at times. Chung is superb defensively but his mediocre serve will give Roger plenty of opportunities to go to the net.

Looked good against Djokovic in his movement so he can frustrate Fed. Not sure if the occasion won't be too big for him tho. How did he look today, missed the first QF?

The same as he looked previous two matches. Gave away some breaks when his serve dipped, solid on the defense and competent forehand. Sandgren was kinda erratic with his forehand though so couldnt capitalize even though he was up 5-3 in 2nd set at one point.

As long as Fed can limit his brainfart service games, he should be good. Chung will give him chances even on his 1st serve.

Cheers, mate. Hopefully he'll pull it up from now on. Just two matches to go.

Come on Federer!!

The time difference makes the Aus open really hard to follow.

If Federer plays as well as he did in the last two sets then he should have too much for Chung. Could be an interesting match though, don't think Federer enjoys playing players he doesn't know very well so if Chung gets off to a good start it could get a bit tricky. And he doesn't seem the type to get overawed by the occasion. Cilic is the bigger threat though.

This whole Tennys alt-right controversy has been a bit ridiculous. I think the media have been pretty unfair - and he makes some sensible points in his press conference.

Nope. He'll be around 150pts (essentially not much) behind Nadal if he wins it.

Interesting. So looks like Rafa may keep the #1 until Wimbledon since he will fare well in Paris. Unless of course this injury is worse than previously expected.

He'll probably lose it at IW/Miami, but then pick it back up after the clay.

Quite happy, however this turns out. I am fond of Federer and obviously he seems the most likely but if by some shock either Cilic (his name looks very wrong without the letters I do not know how to type) or Edmund end up winning, then in the case of the former, I think the Croatian guy wouldn't be unjustly flattered by another grand slam win and in the seemingly highly unlikely case of the latter it would be a nice underdog story and fun to have a second British grand slam winner - within a generation.

Bloke was sharing some appalling nonsense and following many people who post nothing but such. I've seen his press conference.

Don't think even then. Pretty tall order for Federer to defend both and iirc they met at 3rd round in IW right? Provided Nadal makes the semi in both which isn't unlikely he'll still be safe.

That was a big rally but feck me Kerber didn't half make the wrong decision there half the time. She could have killed it earlier 4 or 5 times.

Damn being stuck at work when Edmund is playing! He's just gone a break down, 4-2 in the first set to Cilic. Not a good start but he's not to be written off!

Halep vs Kerber was probably the "real" final, both had looked unstoppable throughout the tournament. Pretty sure Halep will win it now.

Don't forget Halep's tendency to crumble in big finals. Guess the good news for her is Wozniacki's in a similar situation.

Not much love from the brits for Edmund in this thread. Meh...

Been watching some Chung - Sandsgren highlight and, boy, Chung kicks some serious ass. Looking forward to Federer's game!

Was secretly hoping a Chung - Edmund final tho.

I think Federer is really in for a match, albeit I suppose Chung is a bit of an unknown quantity at this stage of the tournament. The interesting thing will be whether he can force Federer into long, attritional rallies. If he can, he has a big chance. If not, I can only see it going one way. Cilic will give the winner a good match in the final, too. Depending on weather, his power might be decisive if he's really swinging, like he was at times v Nadal.

To be honest the coverage has been poor in the news and I think the timing of most of the games doesn’t help people over here really follow it. It’s a shame because he deserves more I think especially compared to the coverage Henmen used to get

Despite the 2 aces it was an uncharacteristically poor service game from Fed. Missed 6 first serve in a row.

Anyway, 2-0.

Chung is really being tested here. He must up his serve, try to lengthen the rallies and hope the humidity inside the closed stadium wears Roger down.

This is too easy.

Bit of a tough watch after the first couple of games. Chung looks both tired and nervous, guess he's not used to this many BO5 matches in a few days but I'm surprised by the nerves given his performance against Djokovic.

I don't think it's nerves at all. He saved 4 set points before succumbing. Roger is just making him play so far out of his comfort zone that he can't get any rhythm going on his strokes at all.

The average return position is like half a meter inside the baseline. He's constantly defending every point because Roger is returning them at ease.

Federer might win yet another Grand Slam. Amazing.

Can't see the match yet again, but I'm following. How does Chung look? Is he actually injured or is this MTO something he's copied from Djokovic as well ("When in doubt, take time out")?

Blisters. Looks nasty enough to me but haven't noticed any visible discomfort when he moves.

Thing is, there aren't that many long rallies thus far. Roger bar his 1st service game is flying through holds and hitting clean winners on Chung's service games.

Fantastic for Fed to get through without really expending energy. Fingers crossed for another slam.

Well, good decision. No Need to drag this out, get slaugthered and possibly worsening the injury.
Sucks for him, sucks for everyone watching, but I'm happy because now I can concentrate on my work without having to look at the score every 2 minutes. :D

Bit harsh perhaps but I think he should at least have seen out the set if it was just blisters that were bothering him. Taking the Novak comparisons a bit too far for me.
