Schwartzman lost in straight sets today. I tend to agree that Del Po will be the one to knock him out although if Nadal gets that far the conditions will become more favourable for him and he will be more acclimatised to the grass.
Well there we have it. Schwartzman is a shit on grass anyway. Think his R1 match was his first ATP level win on grass.

Actually I think he’d beat Fognini.

If Schwartman plays the aggressive tennis he did in his first two sets at the French open then he is capable of pulling off the upset.
Yeah I think he'd have a decent chance against Fognini too.

Just seen the Zverev score, lost a tie break to love. Disappointing that he's struggling against his own age mates.

Given all the hype around Shapavalov losing to Paire is also pretty disappointing too.

Find this guy massively overhyped as most of the kids these days. Atleast Zverev does decently at the Masters, Shapo seems to have played a couple of good matches here or there and that's about it.
Also Zverev yet again going out in week 1 of a Slam really shouldn't be seen as a shock also imo.

Paire was injured too.

Del Potro will give him a thrashing if he hasn’t recovered.

Shapovalov turned pro just last year. I think he’s made expected progress over the past year, and there’s really no overrating him in the tennis community. It’s just @Raoul loving his hyperbole that makes you feel like it.

Zverev has been a big disappointment at Slams but I’m still reserving judgment, for the moment. Fed was in a similar boat of sucking at Slams until he broke his hoodoos at Wimby.

Its not just me. A good number of announcers are hyping him up. McEnroe for instance has been a massive fan who has for the past year been tipping him for success. That tends to happen when you turn pro and immediately beat Nadal and Del Potro in the first 12 months. The announcer on my tv feed also seemed to think he is going to win a few slams. Time will tell.

I’d wager the announcer on your TV is Yank?

Shapovalov is the first really promising youngster to come out of NA after you spent the last decade or so being irrelevant after Roddick left. A bit of overboard enthusiasm is expected from that quarter.

Elsewhere, he’s rated as he should be, a good youngster with still a lot of flaws in his game, but if he keeps at it he’ll have a bright future. That’s different from saying Zverev and him will duke it out for Slams next year or the year after. Everyone is a bit cautious after the failures of imo the lost generation of Raonic, Dimitrov etc...

Nope, a Brit. And of course the player himself isn't a yank either.

He's a promising kid with a lot of talent, so I wouldn't be surprised if parts of McEnroe's prediction come good, at least the bit about him getting into the top 5 soon. He quickly got into the top 50 last year and is now pushing into the low 20s, so another year or so should at a minimum see him in the top 10.

Fed's half of the draw is a proper joke
Looks like Manarino will head out too.

He won in the end but not like him of Medvedev would cause Federer trouble anyway.

Federer not faced a break point so far in the tournament.

The way Federer serves and the kind of opposition he's facing, I'm not surprised. I'll be surprised if he drops serve anytime before the final.

Mannarino in R4 and who in the QF, Isner?
Raonic SF?

Isner won today and it's actually the first time he's made it to R4 at Wimbledon (he has done at all the other slams on multiple occasions.

Expected walk in the park. Feel for Struff though, met Fed in both AO and now Wimbledon.

And now Raonic down 1-4 to Dennis Novak in 1st set.

Anderson or Monfils in the QF. Isner/Raonic is a potential SF opponent. Hilariously easy path to a Wimbledon final.

Raonic takes the first set.

Watch Monfils make it. He always seems to make a QF from nowhere then get taken apart by one of the big 4.

Some interesting matches tomorrow.

Nadal - De Minaur
Djokovic - Edmund
Kyrgios - Nishikori

I follow it less but also some on the ladies side which look fascinating
Kerber - Osaka
Cibulkova - Mertens
Barty - Kasatkina

Even Tiafoe - Kachanov and Fognini - Vesely look like good matches for tennis hipsters too.

It's not like any of the top players would have troubled her too much anyway but Serena can sleepwalk to #24 now. Be interesting to see who comes out of the top half, guess the winner of Kerber vs Osaka will be the favourite but Ostapenko's been playing well and Cibulkova looks like she's determined to stick it to the organisers.

I watched a bit of her against the French girl yesterday and she was very sluggish, was down a break by the time I turned it off. The thing is 95% of the women’s still can’t deal with her serve so they can only really attack it when she makes errors.

Haven’t watched much of the others, but if one of them somehow got her return game on point she’d have a good chance of beating the current Serena.

Gulbis served for the 3rd set against Zverev and messed it up and lost it. Now about to serve for the 4th set to make it 2 sets all.
Djoko makes it 1 set all as well.

Hahhahahaha. Zverev just makes me laugh. Crashes out in the first week of ANOTHER Slam. 6-0 To Gulbis in the 5th
Next Gen wonderkids my ass. They're all overrated.

Hardly a big surprise given that four of the top 7 have lost as well as 8 of the top 10 women. This is a tournament of upsets.

Thats some weird logic. It would be equivalent to expecting real madrid to crash out just because leicester won the EPL.

There's nothing strange about it when 12 of the top 20 players on both sides have already been beaten. Its simply the year of most ranked players losing early.

World Number 3 Alexander Zverev in grand slams:

*Played 3 back-to-back 5 setters R2 to R4 to make QF.

I think it’s fair to say that the German isn’t a very good best of 5 set player.

Yeah sure it's happening because it's a tournament of upsets. He's an absolute joke in Slams and he's continuing to prove it again and again.

Yeah its just a year of ranked players losing early. That explains why he's always garbage at Slams so far.

You seem to find joy in players who don't do well at slams. Weird, but whatever floats your boat.
