How do you work that out? Fed and Del Potro were on Nadals side. Cillic also.

The US open draw got fecked due to Murray pulling out in the last min.

This is nothing alike. Feds only real competition was Cillic on this side before the draw was even made. . Raonic could be a threat but he ain’t played much for a year.

Nadal has Del Potro, Zverev, Djokovic and Kyrgios.

He could only play one of them still come the semi and that was what happened.

Still, I grant you Murray entering the draw in the first place messed everything up. Carreno Busta Anderson semi. FML.

Yeah they played each other but Nadal had the best player of the year in Federer as his SF opponent.
This draw somehow has managed to put all of Djoko, Del Po, Zverev (even though he's crap at Slam tennis), Nick and Rafa in one half.

Yeah but they were on his side.

The other side of the draw at the US open was a joke, not sure how you can blame Nadal for that. Pretty sure you and everyone else were blaming Murray.

This draw was pre determined. Nadal had three of the best performers this year. Thiem albeit plays only on clay but his ranking point would put him in the top 5. I know Thiems out now. Zverev has been up there and so has Del Potro. Then you have Djokovic and Kyrgios.

The draw was ridiculously imbalanced before the tournament began due to Wimbledon making the seedings as they go along rather than current performance.

Yeap. I don’t think he should enter to begin with after limping out of Wimby but it happened.

And correct me if I’m wrong but out of all the names you mentioned only Djokovic got bumped. Everybody else are where they are in the ATP ranking since their grass points in 2017 aside from Zverev were nonexistent.

If you look at the race to London stats.

Zverev, Del Potro and Thiem are 3rd, 4th and 5th. Zverev and Del Potro are 3rd and 4th in the ATP rankings.

No idea how they managed to pull all of them in one side of the draw with Nadal.

Murray was shite all year last year yet still got #1 seed come the USO. I do think seeding based on ATP race ranking is more reflective of current performance but this isn’t a problem exclusive to Wimbledon.

Anyway, not getting too far ahead yet. The way seeds are dropping like flies (or ants?), Fed might be as well, especially if he pulls another Halle.

Nadal has very very good stats at the net in most matches he plays but it's just not natural to him to rush to the net. Maybe in a year or two when he can't keep playing from the baseline, he might play more of his tennis at the net.
Looking at his net game today this is pretty much correct.

Good percentage overall, but only comes out when there's easy ball to put away and even then makes an occasional mistake.

Novak finishes off his opponent. Needs to get some good rest and physio time between now and Saturday.

Fortunately Muguruza and Osaka are not in Serena's side of the draw. She should have a clear path to the final if she retains form.

Halep seems to have subscribed to the Sharapova's school of giving birth on court.

Seriously, the WTA should have done something about all this grunting years ago. Very off putting.

Bizarre match between Paire and Shapovalov. Shapo won the first 6-0 and lost the 2nd 2-6. Paire was supposed to be injured and has roared back to make it a proper match.

Completely missed the fact that Cilic ended up losing. That's a real shock. I think he was quite a few people's favourite, or at least had a very good chance of taking out Federer if they both made it to the semi.

Nothing is making much sense so far on both the mens and womens sides. Fortunately the big guns are still in - Fed/Rafa/Novak and Halep, Muguruza, and the Williams sisters, so there is hope we will see some quality in the 2nd week.

I'm increasingly beginning to think - without any great logic admittedly - that the winner will come from the Nadal/Djokovic side of the draw. Based on nothing at all, I think Rafa might be able to go the course.

Nick and Novak have a better chance of making a final than Nadal. Rafa needs a run of 5 games to really be effective here imo but I don't see how he makes it through the back to back Del Po and Djoko/Nick matches at all. He's winning in straight sets but he's been very average so far. Federer will win this easily imo.

Wasn't that clear as soon as we saw the projected draws? Despite the upsets, am surprised to see people being so skeptical.

It’s not a done deal by any stretch. Fed was extremely rusty coming in off the other grass court tune ups.

I was never skeptical. Knew he'll win it before the draws and was even more sure after it

I was at Wimbledon today on Centre Court and wasn't massively impressed with Rafa. He wasn't bad, but Kushkakin had way to many opportunities on his serve. Not seen much of De Minaur but heard he's a talented kid so might be an interesting match in the 3rd round.

With Cilic out, I'd be amazed if Federer doesn't walk into the final. He had a great draw to start off with and Cilic was the only guy I saw getting close to him. Maybe Querrey or Raonic could cause problems, but big doubts over both of them.

Certainly more interesting on the other half of the draw.

Rafa has Fognin or Diego in R4 if he makes it there. I see that as the defeat. And yeah, he was pretty average today.

Muguruza in serious danger of getting bounced in 3 sets. Down 4-1 in the 3rd set to Alison Van Uytvanck

Fognini maybe, but I think he'd beat Schwartzman. I think he'll make the QFs and lose to Delpo.

Yeah I don't see Rafa dealing with Del Po's big hitting here at all. I actually don't see him getting past Fognini so Del Po doesn't matter

Actually I think he’d beat Fognini.

If Schwartman plays the aggressive tennis he did in his first two sets at the French open then he is capable of pulling off the upset.

Schwartzman lost in straight sets today. I tend to agree that Del Po will be the one to knock him out although if Nadal gets that far the conditions will become more favourable for him and he will be more acclimatised to the grass.
