Grass court tennis is much more interesting imo. Big serves, serve and volley, quicker points, and no sliding around chasing moon balls.
It's definitely not felt very interesting at all so far. Even Federer has been poor.

Depends on preference. I watched the Kyrgios - Cilic match where the quality was decent, but I found it fairly boring. No breaks and break points only happened in one game.

Yeah I've found it very boring. I like the hards as well as it's a decent mix of the other surfaces but this grass season has been exceptionally boring so far for me. There's just barely any point contruction or rallies in the matches I've been watching bits of. Just multiple aces and end of game. Nick's matches are like watching Isner play. He serves exceptionally but is an atrocious returner. So it's just tie breaks every match.

Yeah definitely. It's weird though as tennis probably the only sport (I don't watch many) where I can really enjoy more defensive players but more often than not it comes down to the match up of the players. Like I think Djokovic vs Cilic could be a pretty good match today.
Players like Federer aren't defensive but they're great to watch. Right now the Top tennis players just seems to have a lot of players who can pretty much just serve and hit big. Can't wait for Murray and Djoko to become permanent fixtures in the Top 5 again.

Coric playing very well so far..... Roger ok but not great...

Both done well on serve. Federer looked the more comfortable on serve. Not much in it.

Was hoping this first set would finish before the England match. This long Coric game, means I won't

Coric wins the first set...

Finally Federer breaks!

And takes the second set.

Let's hope Fed cuts out the wayward shots in the 3rd set.

This might be 99th tournament win for Federer if Wiki is correct. Can he catch Connors at 109? Sounds like not too much, but still might be too far.

He'll have to win this first to get to 99:D
Not sure he can catch Connors. Looks a tall order but you never know... would be a phenomenal achievement if he could do it..

I think that’s one of the main reasons he hasn’t retired yet. He wants to catch Connors’ title record.

Think he'll easily get to 109. He's winning a Slam or two a year and he'll play even more of these 250 tournaments like Stuttgart and Rotterdam to get there once he's close to the record.

That should be enough for Coric. Think he deserves it on the balance of play although Fed has been pretty decent from what I've seen.

Federer not looking in stellar form for Wimbledon is he? I suppose you can't win every competition though. He should still have a decent shot given how brilliant he is on grass.

Fed goes down in 3 sets to Coric. He's looked vulnerable all week so not entirely surprising. That said, this is a warm up tournament after Stuttgart and before Wimby so it has served its purpose for him to address various aspects of his game during the build up to Wimbledon.

Great match by Coric. Disappointed for Roger:(

See you at Wimby Fed...

Won't matter a jot in Wimbledon. He has got valuable practice. He lost last year in Stuttgart so a loss here ianisa big deal. He went on to win Wimbledon last year without dropping a set.

Roll on Wimbledon. I expect Federer to be there or thereabouts again and he will be heavy favorite. A 5 setter is a different ball game.

Oldest Grand Slam winners.

Not even US Open, let alone Wimbledon, would be enough to top the chart this year.

Federer will win again but he's looked consistently poor all week which won't help his confidence. It wasn't just a one off match today, he could have lost to Paire as well.

That's how I see it as well. He has been exposed to progressively more difficult opposition in Stuttgart and Halle and will be well prepared for Wimbledon. I don't think he's necessarily the favorite but he will be in the mix imo.

I think he'll most definitely be the favorite at Wimbledon but he's faced extremely poor opponents here at Halle. Was even one of the players he faced seeded? Coric had never won 2 matches in a row on grass before this tournament. Nick is the only tough player he's really faced over these two tournaments and that's a match he actually won.

The opponents he faced at Halle aren't exactly household names but they did play very well. I suspect some may make their mark at Wimbledon in the coming weeks.

They did well because Fed was below par. Though you never know actually, even average players can have their moment in the sun on grass if their serve is working.

I watched all of Federer's matches in the last two tournaments. Some of the players he faced this week played extremely well, which when combined with Fed being a bit rusty and old, made for highly competitive matches. I suspect he will dust the cobwebs off and raise his game at W in a couple of weeks. Don't sleep on Coric, Cilic, or Djokovic either.

I agree Cilic and Djoko will be major threats but I don't really see any of Fed's opponents here doing much. An in form Fed would have destroyed all of them in straight sets.

The thing is, he is nearly 37 and what constitutes in form at that age, even by Federer's high standards, may still not be enough when he's dealing with talented young upstarts (like Coric today). At some point very soon, a young player will emerge and the baton will be passed.

That's essensially my worry. Federer on his game will smoke the current lot with ease. But given his age I'll see any GS win as a bonus. He's competing against fitter people.

True. I suspect he has one more year left in his tank at this level before the younger players finally get him. If he's still #1 or 2 a year from now then I think we need to check his DNA to make sure he's actually human.

Ill be over the moon if he wins one of Wimbledon/USO.

Bring it on.

If anyone's interested, Novak and Marin playing now in the Queen's final. On serve at the moment.

Rafa back to no.1 now, though Federer will remain the no.1 seed at Wimbledon due to their formula.
