Fed cruises in slightly bumpy straight sets. Murray and Kyrgios also locking horns tied in the first at the moment.

Murray took the first 6-2

Couldn't find a reliable river. Is he back or Kyrgios back to his throwing mode?

I switched it off after a bit but from what I saw Kyrgios seemed to be talking to himself quite a bit so I wouldn't be surprised if imploded later in the set.

Strange how Kyrgios never really seems tp turn up against Murray but often will against the other big 3. The least likely player you'd expect him to be in awe of, but he's not hidden how much he looks up to Andy.

Just seen Zverev lost his opening set 6-1 to Coric in Halle

I'm a bit confused about Kyrgios. Either he looks to either be injured or partially tanking. He doesn't seem to be trying, almost as a way to not destroy Murray who looks finished physically.

Fed pulls off an fantastic 3rd set against Benoit. Both players had match points but Fed managed a late mini break to finish him off.

Just seen Djokovic beat Dimitrov 6-4 6-1 at Queens. Quite an impressive win for him, wonder how he'll fare at Wimbledon.

From what I've seen he has been steadily improving of late and is probably playing at top 10 (near top 5) level.

Any idea what seed he will have at Wimbledon?

Hard to say as I don't know if any of the current top 10 will miss out due to injury. Djokovic is #20 and could be as high as #12 if he wins in London this week. If he does and given his stature and form I would say he could get in as high as 7.

Djokovic is currently 14th, F at Queen's would see him climb to 12th or he could drop a place if he loses to Mannarino and RBA wins Halle. Basically means he needs to get to the final to avoid one of the top 4 seeds in the last 16.

With the caveat that four guys ahead of him in Raonic, Berdych, Delpo and Nadal are all injury doubts of course.

It doesn’t work like that :p

Wimbledon adds 100% of points from all grass tournaments of previous year and 75% of points from best result from 2nd last year, to ATP points in previous week of Wimbledon start. Djokovic had 610 points last year on grass and just 90 year before (that is 67.5 for calculation). No idea how players around him did in last 2 years at grass but if he can win Queens and get as high as 14 or so, he can be sure to be in top 16 for Wimbledon. Top 8 is out of reach.

Federer is a lot better today, but then Ebden style suits him well. Some great returns in the first set.

Still looks rusty especially from the backhand side when dealing with low balls, but slowly getting into rhythm.

Did anyone listen to the two interviews with Djokovic on the Tennis Podcast over the last week? I know sportspeople are generally good at being media friendly etc. but they came across as quite.....contrived. Not sure if I'm being fair to him, but I didn't come away from those interviews feeling any the wiser as to what Djokovic was thinking.

Broke back but seems a bit flat really.

He's looked quite underwhelming this year tbh. Even when he lost to Haas last year I was still confident but just watching him play this year he just can't find the peak form of 2017 AO-Miami.

Damn, I need to get a new podcast app as they didn't appear until I clicked on the show.

I do enjoy The Tennis Podcast a lot though. You ever listened to No Challenges Remaining?

I've listened to the odd episode, albeit I only drop in every now and then, more for reasons of not having enough time to listen to everything. I like it, though. Ben and Courtney are good follows on Twitter, too.

Fed is showing signs of vulnerability today, especially after a somewhat unconvincing match against Benoit yesterday. He will lose at some point soon unless he finds another gear.

yeah, a bit shit 2nd set as well. Maybe he's rusty or slowing down a bit. His movement when positioning for topspin backhand was really off. Against Ebden that wouldn't be much of an issue but at Wimbledon against better opposition might be a big problem.

Raonic retired today, hope it isn't an injury again.

Another Halle final for Roger.

Not his best performance today, but still got through it.

Hard fought win for Fed. Kudla was playing very well coming in and could've easily taken this to 3 sets. Fed is definitely not back at his best although at this age its hard to tell whether that can be expected or if this is the best he has at the moment.

Not watched any of Halle, and even for a 500, seemed a bit of a soft draw for Federer. He'll play either RBA or Coric in the final, so doubt you'll be able to read too much into it.

I'd still back him to win Wimbledon but a bit less certain than last year.

Cilic into the final of Queens. Beaten a few good grass court players in Muller, Querrey and Kyrgios now.

Hope Novak beats Chardy to make the final.

Fed's been full on Grumperer this week, not surprisingly given how terribly he's been playing. Pretty worrying after a promising week in Stuttgart.

Murray vs Wawrinka in the first round of Eastbourne next week, should be a fun watch.

Novak wins a tough match against Chardy in straight sets at Queens. Cilic in the final tomorrow. They are both strong Wimbledon contenders imo.

Not caught too many of the matches but not been too impressed by much of the quality on the grass so far (Federer included). Seems even more ace friendly than usual as well. After some of the high quality matches on clay for past 2 months, the lack of interesting rallies and 32 aces a player in 2 sets is a bit boring to watch

Grass court tennis is much more interesting imo. Big serves, serve and volley, quicker points, and no sliding around chasing moon balls.

Depends on preference. I watched the Kyrgios - Cilic match where the quality was decent, but I found it fairly boring. No breaks and break points only happened in one game.

I do like longer baseline rallies as well, but I prefer watching them on hard courts as its a bit faster than clay. There's just something about clay court tennis that I find less satisfying to watch (although oddly enough I prefer playing on clay).

See it the other way around. Glad the slow tumescent long rally season is over. Although not really given hard courts are also fairly slow.

Absolutely depends on preference. Personally the problem I see with clay is that sometimes shots that would othetwise be winners are also chased down and nullified, which resets a point which otherwise should have definitively ended.

But to each their own.

Yeah definitely. It's weird though as tennis probably the only sport (I don't watch many) where I can really enjoy more defensive players but more often than not it comes down to the match up of the players. Like I think Djokovic vs Cilic could be a pretty good match today.
