Nadal beat Ebden 7-6 7-5. He wasn't too bad for his first match on grass but I don't keep much hope against big servers. Lots of Ebdeb service games just passed him by whenever I was watching.

I wouldn't read much into it. He lost against Gasquet in an exhibition match before the Australian Open (either this year or last year).

Yeah that was this year but grass is one place where I do read into Nadal's exhibition performances. He's going to need a solid mix of luck and an amazing draw (without big hitters) to make it deep here.

Was just reading some stats of the Top 4 in their H2H against each other at Slams.

Rafa has the best win percentage at 75.7 (?!?!) with 25/33 wins.
Novak comes second at 65.8 with a 25/38 wins
Federer and Murray are pretty poor with 42.2 and 20% wins against the Top 4.

Rafa only has two losing records on any surface vs any of the Top 4. (vs Novak at AO 0-1 and vs Fed at Wimbledon 1-2)

Rafa and Djoko have some pretty incredible stats really. These are the toughest matches there are at Slams.

I think it's pretty much all draw dependent with him and a bit of luck for him at Wimbledon. Fingers cross the draw is kind!

Imagine it will be on Friday?

TBH Nadal has gotten very lucky with the draws at the USO and RG so I guess can't expect another good one. Anyway, whatever he does is a bonus here.

Federer got Cilic in the SF. Nadal Del Po projected QF.
Stan vs Dimi in R1.
Djoko and Nadal in the same half, obviously.

He is ranked like outside the top 100. He’s not going to cry like Williams is about seedings.

Gasquet vs Monfils is another first round.

Murray's draw is one of the worst draws I've EVER seen. I know it's expected given his ranking but it's absolutely brutal.

Paire, Shapo, Del Po, Goffin, Rafa, Djoko and Federer.

Nadal has

R1 Sela
R2 Popisil
R3 M. Zverev
R4 Diego
QF Del Po
SF Djoko
F Federer.

If he can survive Popisil, he can make the QF this year.

Mischa Zverev is no pushover. The guy is a one trick pony but on a good day he can serve and volley Nadal off the court.

And I don't think Djokovic will make the SF, so whoever make it out of the QF on that side is likely to get to the final.

I was gonna mention Mischa Zverev. But Nadal tends to do well against serve and volley players because he can use his topspin forehand. Nadal is also very good at the net.

I know he lost to Brown in 2015, but Nadal that year was very poor. But usually it’s been a big hitter with a big serve who has knocked out Nadal.

Fed should make the second week at least, not liking the prospect of a rematch with Coric though. A lot of big servers lurking in his part of the draw but he's got a good record against that type of player so should be ok (assuming he plays better than he did in Halle of course). Rafa should be fine til the semis if he plays like he did last year, he's managed to avoid basically all the potential banana skins... Delpo could be tricky but I don't see him getting to the quarters.

Of that list, Coric and Djokovic would be the greatest concerns as they are playing the best tennis coming in. Coric in particular, looks like he's ready to make a leap into the next echelon.

You love to overhype all the kids, don't you? What exactly has Coric done, particularly on grass (other than this past week), to make you feel he's about to "make a leap into the next echelon"?? The guy had never won 2 grass court games in a row before Halle. He was decent at IW but what exactly has he done?

He just won Halle. Given that he’s 21 that’s pretty good. Oh and he beat Federer....on grass. When is the last time that happened.

An almost retired Tommy Haas did it last year. Coric beat a below par Federer last weekend. Yes Coric has had a good tournament but you're massively overrating his abilities, especially on grass, on the back of one tournament.

He's beaten A. Zverev and Federer on grass in the past week and won the entire Halle tournament. He's playing better than anyone except perhaps Djokovic, Cilic, and Federer going into Wimbeldon. That makes him a strong contender to go deep into the tournament. Does that mean he will win Wimbledon ? Likely not, but he is a contender to go deeper into the tournament than his ranking would suggest.

Zverev's first match back since injury? And he's not even that special on grass. Saying Coric might have a good tournament/has some potential is understandable but to say he's ready to enter the next echelon of tennis based on one tournament seems way too OTT to me. Paire almost beat Fed at Halle, random players like Kudla, Ebden also troubled Fed big time last week and I don't think any of them are going to achieve much here either.

Federer was rusty coming in and his opponents were in most cases up for it. Paire, Kyrgios, and Coric each played well and each of the matches could've easily gone the other way. Zverev has imo had a productive first part of the year. He made the finals in Miami and won in Madrid. I don't expect big things out of him at Wimbledon.

Makes sense I guess. He looked like he had moments of quality in his return, but his fitness was way off.

Probably saw his potential draw and said feck it! Gutted for him though.

Interesting. It reminded me of this tweet by Simon Briggs a couple of weeks back.

To be fair that’s probably him getting used to playing without it.

He looked far from ready and he would have suffered a first round loss to Paire.

He’s going to practice on hard courts. So I doubt it’s injury related.

Not sure I follow you. If I'm understanding his tweet correctly, he's saying that when Murray was at the height of the hip injury, he had an obvious issue or problem in his gait. So I don't think it would come down to him choosing to walk like that, or trying to re-establish his previous gait, as it would be indicative of the injury causing him an ongoing issue or having somewhat altered him biomechanically.

Cilic and Querrey made short work of their opponent, Fed up 6-1 4-1 against Lajovic.

Gasquets vs Monfils and Wawrinka vs Dimitrov later. Shame it coincides with the Brazil match.

Coric's movement into the upper echelon of men's tennis going smoothly so far. A set and a break down to Medevev.

Coric reverting to the mean on grass. One excellent week just an exception to the norm. Never expected him to be up to much here, but looking at the score wasn't expecting a R1 beat down.

@Raoul though Upper echelon of men's tennis apparently. The guys a joke on grass and one tournament doesn't change that. The young players are an absolute joke. They don't even make it to the second week of slams, let alone win them.
