In case you folks are interested, here's the homepage of Pepe Imaz, part of Djokovic's team since he won RG last year. Cringiest thing I've seen in a while, the guy seems like a sleazy 60's hippy "Guru", you know, the kind that lures in gullible girls... weird to think he's working with one of the best players of all time.

Quote: "However when he approached the age of 18 the expectations he had created in his head, which were totally unreasonable and exorbitant, started to give him a sense of failure, contempt and negative feelings began to grow in him.
Unconsciously he began to self harm through bulimia. Due to something which Pepe describes as magical or divine, he suddenly became aware that he was sick (which is always the last thing a patient accepts whether they’re bulimic, alcoholic, drug addict etc...)"

@Piratesoup what's the press coverage of Zverev like in Germany?

Tennis has been on the fringe of media interest for years now with Federer's wins getting most attention, but Zverev might be the one to change that. There's no super massive hype yet, but if he keeps playing like that...
One of the biggest problems is that only the AO, RG and USO are shown on free TV while Wimbledon and the Masters are on Pay TV only.

That's what I heard. I read that Kerber didn't get all that much praise you'd expect after the year she had last year.

Guess it really needs to him go deep or beat one of the big players in the slams. Big future anyway.

She did get cause some attention spikes and won a lot of popularity awards at the end of the year (female sports person of the year etc.), but the WTA as a whole is just too unappealing and uniform right now to make it last, I think.
Zverev is just what german tennis needs right now.

Umpire Murphy showing Mourier how it's done (I'm still mad about that call he made). Spot on line judging.

feck yes, Zverev takes it with another break! Splendid performance, didn't face a single break point. He's part of the top 10 now. The journey to Nr. 1 starts in earnest from here.
Djokovic still looks like he's miserable on court.

Get in Alexander! What a performance from the lad!

Rome makes RG interesting again. Thiem proved that he can beat Nadal although he remains inconsistent, Zverev established himself as a fearsome player even on Clay. Interesting times up ahead.
Haven't been this impressed by a young player since Del Potro burst onto the scene and swept all before him.

First player born in the 90's to win a Masters 1000. Mind boggling stat right there.

Kid is gonna be a star... so assured today...... the mark of a future grand slam champion.

Thiem matches up well against Nadal, but not Djokovic. Zverev matches up well against Djokovic but not Nadal.

It's too early to say if Thiem and Zverev are up there as favourites. It's still Rafa, Djokovic and Wawrinka. Zverev and Thiems main objective currently has to be to get past the first week. Zverev hasn't managed that yet in a grandslam.

But getting three sets off Rafa at the French is going to be a hard task. Only players who are capable are Wawrinka and Djokovic in peak form.

Absolutely. The only thing that could prevent him from reaching the very top are Del Potro like injuries or illness. Or Kyrgios playing to the very best of his potential.

Zverev almost beat Nadal at the AO and he's only just turned 20. He hasn't got the game to beat Nadal on clay (yet), but on faster courts I think he'll beat him sooner rather than later if he keeps up his rate of growth.
I don't think either will win RG or could even be considered favorites, either, but they do give me a huge incentive to watch now that Federer isn't there.

If Kyrgios had the desire and ambition of this kid, he'd be bloody awesome.
But hopefully Sascha gets lucky with injuries. Gotta be great watching him as he goes along..

Was not expecting that. Good thing though that Djoko's built up confidence this week takes a bit of a dent now.

Novak confirms Agassi as his new coach. Says it's not long term and that he won't stay for the full duration of RG.

Be interesting to see what Agassi brings to the table for Novak...

Very intriguing French Open coming up....

Agassi was my favorite player pre Rafa. Would be pretty hard to watch if he helps Novak beat Rafa at RG :nervous:

I didn't even realize Federer won't be playing RG this year. Bummer.

Was pretty clear after Miami tbh.

My fear is that being out for so long will completely lose him his momentum. However, it's undeniable that he'd have an edge physically skipping the clay season, when the others grind themselves to the ground with the matches coming thick and fast.

Great for Zverev obviously but that's a shocking stat for the 90's tennis generation.

Zverev has a tricky first round tie against Verdasco. Like all Spaniards on clay they could be tricky opposition on clay.

Nadal plays Benoit Paire. Paire best Wawrinka a few weeks back.

Zverev's potential 3rd round is tricky as well, vs Cuevas against whom he lost on clay this season. If he gets past these initial hurdles, I fancy him vs Nishikori in R16.

Murray vs Delpo in 3rd round potentially.

I thought he might have had a go. Given how he's played so far this year I'd expect him to make the semis and then you never know.

Kerber is getting destroyed. Most uninspiring Nr 1 I can remember. Murray's performances this year are world class in comparison

She has been good last year, but very underwhelming this season. On clay she seems to be in general a bit useless, don't think he did much there last season either. Loss is not surprising at all imo, Makarov is dangerous and an uncomfortable first round.

Thiem in the same half as Rafa and Nole, will be very difficult for him, Goffin in a potential R16 tie too. 2nd half looks much stronger. First half could help Murray or Stan to get some form and momentum. Huge chance for Zverev too, but I am not sure how he will handle all Bo3 matches and the pressure. Fognini could be a outsider bid to go far maybe.

It's a nice draw for Rafa, don't think he's in danger of dropping a set before the semis. No idea who's going to come out of the top half, Murray's draw would be pretty tough even if he were in form and Stan's quarter is pretty loaded. Fear we could be in for a 2013 style final.

Robert and Dimitrov just played an absolute beauty of a rally

Thiem wins the 2nd set against tomic 6:0. 0 unforced errors in that Set, astonishing

Edit: Thiem just won one of the greatest points of the year. You should check out the Highlights later. He is looking awesome,he has never played better. Huge pressure, speed and spin on every shot while making no errors. Some great finesse shotmaking on top. Serving for the match after around 1hour20

Jesus Christ, what has happened to Tomic? I know Clay isn't his best surface but he was highly rated when he first arrived on the tour. But has done nothing of note not even in the masters.

Jerzy Janowicz also got knocked out. I can't believe he made the semi finals of Wimbledon in 2013.

Yeah women's tennis is a joke. Pathetic to be knocked out first round 6-2 , 6-2 as the world number 1

Somewhere years ago there's a post of me saying Jerzy Janowicz was going to win many grand slams. What a disappointment he turned out to be.
