Murray is getting slightly embarrassed but Fognini has it in him to capitulate from winning positions.

Thought he was going to choke it in the end. Fognini was impressive, but Murray perhaps should have skipped the clay season if he isn't fit. He is playing like Nadal from last season. Literally no power to his game. Poor serve and just hoping the player on the other end misses. No aggression.

Good stuff from Fognini apart from that blip at 5-1 in the second. Worrying times for Murray though, weird to see him not even bother chasing down drop shots. Guess that's his last hope of clinging on to the number one spot after Wimbledon gone.

Murray is shocking right now really . Even if the injury is bothering him, it's the lack of effort which is surprising. Nadal, even at his absolute worst still gives it his all, Murray was just letting every drop shot go (there were loads) without even trying!

Murray is probably the worst #1 defending his crown since the days of Rios and Kafelnikov...

Random one, but has anyone here been to the US Open? How easy is it to get tickets for/what is the process? I'm thinking to go next year.

I think he's just better off being the challenger to the crown. Interesting to see if he's this crap even on grass.

Djokovic is starting to get his act together unlike Murray. The big test will be against Nadal obviously if they meet. But the second set last week against Nadal was encouraging for him.

Depends on what games you want to see. Tickets are always available but the semis and final are obscenely expensive. I'll probably go again this year, but will buy after the draw. I want to see Fed

How expensive are we talking? To be honest I'd be happy going just to see any match in the second week on the Arthur Ashe. Is it just a case of buy tickets online after a certain date?

I'd like to see Fed too, managed to see all the big guns live apart from him.

Sascha is definitely a future no. 1. Great ability and superb big match temperament.

Damn yeah pretty expensive. Assuming tickets are legally resold above face value?

Forgot it was on as I'm at work but Thiem a set up against Rafa. Third time lucky for him, maybe..

Thiem wins. Great performance by him.

Djokovic is going to be delighted too as if he can win Rome then that will be a big confidence booster for him.

Agree, if he wins Rome this will mean a lot for his confidence. I just have no idea how he's equipped for potential five setters at RG. Tables will also soon be turning with Murray defending a lot of points and Djokovic none.

How did Nadal lose this one? Thiem that good?

Thiem played one of the best games of his career imo, but Rafa also did look a bit tired. Hope Thiem can win it from here, semis will be tough though. He has been the second best player on clay this season, will be interesting how he will do at RG. I wasn't really confident that he can defend his semifinal from last year, but now it looks more than possible :)

To be fair tiredness can't be used as excuse against Thiem. He's probably played the same amount of matches or more than Rafa.

Thiem unsettled Rafa with his power. Obviously Rafa wasn't at his best, but you still have to play brilliantly to beat him on clay.

I said it after Madrid that I hope Nadal loses early and I'm glad it happened. Thiem was phenomenal with his power but this is a good time to go out for Nadal. Next round would not be any easier with Del Po/Djoko waiting. Now he gets a much needed break ahead of RG.

I said this earlier also and I'll say it again, Thiem is the biggest danger to Nadal along with Djoko at RG. He's got great power and has had a great run on clay.

Djokovic looking better. leading 5-1 with Del Potro yet to hold serve

Djokovic destroyed Thiem in that first set.

Things are looking good for him if he can win this event as Rome conditions are similar to the French unlike Madrid and Monte Carlo.

Thiem without any chance today. Seems like Nole is getting in form again and Thiem doesn't really like to play against him (got destroyed last year at RG too), looked pretty good here so far. Of course huge favorite against Zverev in the final now too.

Is it just me or is Djokovic a bit of a twat here? Celebrating going 5-0 up in a second set after smashing the first one 6-1 the way he did, screaming and fist pumping. What is that all about?

Have you been asleep the last ten months? Djokovic played atrocious tennis up until recently, of course he's fist pumping as he is finally coming back to form. It's probably all an insane relief for him.

he's just excited he's winning again, nothing else.

Thiem showing he's still got a long way to go, awful performance. Good stuff from Novak though, think he's left it too late to find the confidence to beat Rafa at RG but hopefully he'll show up for the second half of the year.

Found it a bit weird myself but it'd be better if he stuck to that kind of thing rather than his cringy post-match celebration to the crowd.

All the confidence I had about Nadal at RG (and I'm a very pessimistic person) just disappeared in 59 mins.

Djokovic is allowed to be happy. I mean very rarely you see a player win two matches in a day. He made both look easy against class opponents.

Agassi is rumoured front runner to be his coach. So maybe he can help him with the end of match celebrations.

Zverev take the first set. Not much between the two, but that nervy opening game from Novak cost him.

Djokovic with some awkward footwork on a couple of points now since the second half of the first, seems like he can't get out of the way of the ball quickly enough.

Break Zverev, 2:1
Clearly the better player right now, he's dominating most rallies.
