Ah, shame that. Sounds like would have been good for Rafa to give up the point in that instance.
The point = the game. We are talking about the guy who called hawkeye on Roger's championship point here

Anyway match ended already. Goffin looking like a ghost out there.

He could've and it would have spared him a lot of booing, but you can't really blame him, he was the furthest away.

Nadal breaks and the match is over. I'm fuming, we were robbed of potentially 3 awesome sets of tennis. Shame Goffin mentally collapsed like that, though.
That's true, who knows maybe he wasn't sure.

I'm aware, you see players do it at times, but usually not on the important points which is fair enough.

Not sure why that is even relevant. That's been done many a time.

They also just do it when they were close to the ball when it landed, you never hear a player calling his own shots out but they will say opponent's shots were in. Nadal did nothing wrong here.

Pretty sure Rafa knew it was long. Not his fault the umpire's useless though.

That umpire should be forced to make an apology video and send a hand written letter to Goffin. What an absolute bellend.

The atmosphere in the stadium is reaching funeral levels. Not even the commentator's on tennis tv seem to care about the match anymore.

Yeah true. You'd naturally leave that to the line judges or umpire who should have a better view.

Anyway, it's only fair Nadal caught a break after the luck he's had so far. If he keeps on hitting well it's hard to see anyone else really challenging for RG, with Djoker and Murray being down in the dump.

How is this in any way fair?

I also think Nadal's form is still hard to judge. I know Zverev is better than he showed against him this week, he was shocking, and apart from him he didn't play against any player (bar Goffin...) that could potentially hurt him on clay. He did look vulnerable here and there, especially against Edwards. So I don't think he is the invincible monster he used to be.
Clear RG favorite, of course.

Not really, no, but he's had rotten luck so far being beaten to 3 titles by Roger, so no one can much begrudge him some fortune (albeit at Goffin's expense)

Pretty terrible for the Belgian though, this'd be one of the closest time he could've gotten a big title.

Well, that not rotten luck, that's just losing. I think he would've made it to the final anyway, Goffin was playing the best tennis of his life and Nadal still had a gear to go to.

Yeah, guttet for Goffin. Match of his life after having just reeling in his biggest win ever and he gets robbed by this. Still, Nadal would've just powered through in his place, so his mentality is a bit to blame in all this.

So how does a racist and sexist pig like Natase become fed cup captain?

Cedric Mourier must feel like kissing Nastase right now. Otherwise his call would've been the shittiest thing in tennis this week.

That's not luck. He's been the 2nd best player this year. He got beatend by the best. If Nadal knew it was out, that's terrible sportsmanship from him. There should be hawkeye on clay

What a day of tennis. The umpire ruining a potentially good semi between Goffin and Nadal. Feel bad for David but he really needs to learn to put any present disappointments out of his mind as hard as that is to do. Still, that umpire's decision was really baffling. I wondered if he had a bet on or something:lol:

Then Nastase:wenger: Guy's surely lost it.

Only just watching the highlights from the match Murray lost. This guy was 4-0 in the final set. Got broken straight away but 4-1 was 15-40 up. Really had no idea how big time he blew itm

That was a poor poor decision from the linesman in the Nadal match. It ended up being a game changer because Goffin was a mental midget after that and collapsed. They did replay the point though so he should have been calm and consolidated. Anyway, Nadal in yet another final and I'm hoping he finally manages to win one atleast this year. a 4th final loss would be hard to take.

He's favorite for RG but he's not been too great this tournament. He's still broken far too easily compared to his peak on clay.

Yeah I'm not at all convinced by Rafa right now. If anything, he looked better at Miami before the final than he's done here. Hopefully he can win this and build on the momentum and let it take him through.

Is there any chance we get a Fed - Nadal 1/ 2 again in the rankings? Would be awesome. Murray and Djok have been utter gash this year and must both be losing a fair few points.

Fair chance I'd say. Fed after Wimbledon has a free run point wise and he usually does well in the indoor hard court swing, Nadal should get a big chunk of points in the clay season. After Wimby both of them should be on the 6.5/7k ish mark and if Murray fails to defend his points from second half last year then anything can happen.

Rafaaaaaa!! Finally the title this season has deserved
La Decima completed at Monte Carlo.
Level on 29 Masters now with Djoko (I think)

All these "top" female players saying sharapova shouldn't be allowed wildcards and new bouchard saying she's a clear cheat and should never be allowed back in the sport is hilarious. You can tell they all just fear her even though she isn't the greatest player ever. I hope she has a successful comeback and absolutely smashes every one of these average cnuts.

The whole ban thing was a bit weird to me anyway, it didn't look like purposeful cheating but with all the Russian stuff going on who knows? But if she comes back and whops everyone while clean then it'll just prove that whatever she was taking wasn't really performance enhancing.

In shorts, women tennis players are scared of competition so want to kick good players out of tennis.

I next expect them to say Serena should never play again due to having a kid and she has to concentrate on the kid and not tennis.

Nah, I don't see it as that. I think many of the WTA players never liked Sharapova before the ban.

Your comparison with Serena makes litte sense.

To me the Sharapova case comes across that she was taking these drugs legally, with the intention to enhance performance and she (and her team) then got caught out. I think it was a mistake on her part, but because of what I believe to be bad intentions prior, no sympathy for her.

I also think the way her and her agent have handled it has been very poor. Take a different approach, and I think players and fans may be a bit more considerate.

Personally I now don't like her and hope her comeback is a failure

Do you think all of these players saying her comeback is wrong are totally clean? I'm very suspicious.

Who knows, but I think the a lot of the players comments just come back to her not being liked on the tour. Compiled with other factors.

Can't remember who her agent was talking about (Wozniacki and Radwanska iirc) but he basically came out and said players are slagging her off because it's their last chance of winning a slam or something. To me Sharapova and her team seem like they're living in a bubble and have played this out badly.

Thing is i can't disagree with her coach. Those players are really inconsistent and i see them retiring early. I'm unsure if one of those mentioned have already retired once and come back.

Sharapova has played it quite well imo, maybe not her team but i cant remember her saying anything stupid about all of this. Probably disliked by a lot though as you say. It'll be partly jealousy because she is a poster girl and very media popular, she got in at the peak time for it, like kournikova did.

I think he press conference after the story came across very naive, almost as if she thought everyone was stupid enough to just believe her, that she had some condition no one knew about. I think in general it came across the whole approach came across as arrogant and that it wasn't really her fault anyway.

Maybe you may think he was talking sense, but it's not his place to be making those kind of comments, so only comes across as insulting.

Not even sure the dislike is due to that, from what I've read, she's a bit cold and it's more of a personality thing that a lot of players don't like her as a person. Serena has all those things and is a lot better, but seems players like her.

@One Night Only I'd assume your a sharapova fan. You are reading deep into it. Your assuming most players take banned substances, and that they are complaining because she may win more.

The most likely answer is that most players don't like people who were banned for drugs. I'm not getting into whether it was a valid ban or not.

Not at all, just feel she is being made out much worse than she is. Players on the WTA i much prefer over her but it's like a witch hunt.

Also @saivet i am sure the WTA knew she took what she was (meldanonium?) And it wasn't banned but got banned in January and she "didn't know" also, i am a bit hazy now due to drink but i cant remember if she took it after that date, or it was still in her system so that was the failure.

It just feels like a complete witch hunt to me. Due to her being Russian aswell it has been blown well out of proportion. She may have been a cheat, maybe not willingly or knowing. Especially with the track record recently, but if she is back and is "clean" now and does a job who can doubt her? If the talent is there, and she can beat people in the top 50 why not let her complete?

Let me ask you guys this. Should Rio have never played football again after missing a drugs test?

Bad analogy. He passed another one day of or the day after iirc.

I think she should be able to compete. I just don't see any issue with other pros not liking it.

I'd actually like to hear an actual top players opinion on it, Serena for example.

Also one day can be enough to professionally flush your system depending on the substance.

I'm actually going to have a look at the drug involved at some point. Think sharapova played today too.

She continued to take it when it was banned.

Murray has no sympathy on it, and he's a player that tends to be frank in interviews. A lot of the other top players have tried to stay fairly neutral on it, understandably.
