He was just over exuberant. It was his big chance to enter his first 1000 masters final and he blew it. Crowd was the same for both the players but posters on here saying the crowd won Federer the game is ridiculous as best.
No, it wasn't. They were extremely disrespectful towards Kyrgios who did nothing to provoke that. I'm not arguing they won anything for anyone but their treatment of Kyrgios was disgraceful and this matters in the context of our discussion - regarding Kyrgios's attitude against them. The noise affected both players, I'm not talking about that though. They provoked Kyrgios, insulted him, booed him all the time for no reason at all, applauded his mistakes. It was a very bad treatment and I don't blame him one bit for reacting to it. Actually, he didn't even react until they cost him an important point at the very end. I wouldn't have held my nerves that long.

Kyrgios has a lot to learn from Roger, especially attitude during matches. Acting like a jerk towards ball kids, cursing, smashing racquets...not sure which crowd would like that.

He wasn't doing any of that yesterday during the game. He smashed his racquet at the end due to being pissed off with stupid fans.

I'm not his biggest fan. But he behaved well yesterday.

The fans were doing the same to Berdych. Yes they want Federer to do well. But they also need to remember than tennis is not football. You shouldn't be cheering when players do double faults. You need to have respect for both players.

The crowd was terrible no-one is disputing thst. But they were not booing him until he smashed his first racquet when he missed a shot. At that point they turned on him. He also was a jerk to a ball boy and started pretending to act hastily after the umpire issued him a time warning. That won't go down well with any crowd.

Irrelevant of the crowd pressure on him, Kyrgios behavior in the tournament was poor as well. Throwing rackets around, telling the crowd to shut up, bullying the linesman in the previous game against Zverev, making mockery of the umpire, despite repeatedly going above the 25 seconds between shots, etc, etc.

Sure the crowd was out of order, but two wrongs doesn't make it right does it?

No, I agree. That's why I said I think he's a prick but I don't blame him for yesterday, in particular.

yeah, I agree with that. It's normal to be frustrated but he need to channel that emotion in the matches. Federer was the same about his age, and he sure has the talent but needs to work a lot to have professional attitude on court.

You talk as if this is the first time this has happened. Such things happen all the time. The crowd owes nothing to Kyrigos. On the other hand, without being a fan favorite Kyrigos won't be able to succeed at this level.

As for the point, Federer has had it worse. Even in the second set there was a call from the crowd. I have seen such calls when Federer is playing shots as well even in majors. The one which I remember recently was in RG against Novak. This somehow trying to make it sound like Kyrigos was "insulted" by the crowd is a hilarious attempt to somehow take away from Federer's brilliant win and run this year.

Yeah he showed exemplary behavior especially at that time when he shouted at the crowd to "shut the feck up" 2-3 times. Brilliant and mature behavior that.

The crowd thing is a bit overrated. People making noise is just a part of the game and player need to learn to deal with it. Anyone who remember the Gustavo Kuerten days at Roland Garros knows this.

What? No, it isn't. What I said had nothing to do with Federer.

In no way booing players between serves and shouting line calls from the stands should ever become accepted.

Can't wait for Fedal later:drool:

On the semi between Fed and Kyrgios - it was outstanding! I enjoyed it very much. After Fed retires, Nick will be my new fave. The guy has a fabulous exciting game. If he just keeps his head, he will be awesome.

I also like that he's irreverent:D These guys are there to compete, not make friends. The only thing I don't like is him having a go at he ball kids - no need for that.

As for the Miami crowd - they are not the greatest, but let's not get caught up with that. They were also calling out during some of Fed's rallies as well. They are not the best behaved crowd, but you just have to get on with it.

Can't wait to see Nick in his next tournament. Fed and Nick playing each other has the potential to throw up some great encounters in the future. The contrasts in their styles makes a great spectacle:drool:

Am I right that the match starts in an hour?

If any one knows a good stream please do not hesitate to pm me. Preferably one that is iPad and techninally challenged compatible.

Can't wait.... haven't a clue how this will go...

Depends on which Fed shows up, the one from last match with Kyrgios or the one struggling against Bautista and Berdych. Albeit, the conditions should favour Nadal (more rest, shorter court time, slow court)

Don't think either's played particularly well this tournament but considering Federer's running on empty I think Rafa will take it. Hopefully he's realised standing two miles behind the baseline to receive is not a particularly effective approach.

I'm having a problem here. Anyone else watching Sky? I can't get any sound:confused:

Pretty humid over there today. Should do Nadal some good.

Same, it's weird they've not even put a message on screen noting it and saying that they're looking to resolve it.

Just came back now

Good hold from Rafa

Fed did well to hold there. Thank goodness for his serve

Hopefully Rafa learned something from the last game. Pity that chance for a break

So tight these service games...

Feels like Nadal's getting a lot more free points from his serve than in recent meetings.

Nadal doing the right things. He needs to keep the rallies long as that should favour him.
