Nadal winning three more French opens is doable Imo.

He didn't win a slam for 2 years before this season. He's just as likely to miss a chunk of next season and miss a few slams, as he is to win the FO again. He's just too injury prone, especially after a big season like this one.

Borg & Djokovic > Sampras even if they have less slams. And Federer was pretty much accepted as the GOAT somewhere around 2007, when he didn't hold the record.

I'm speaking mainly from a historical perspective. 10-15 years from now when all these players are retired, its Federer's slam record that will be what all the best players are chasing. Borg could've probably had the most slams if he didn't retire at 25 and bothered to play the Aussie.

I'm not sure even just catching 19 would change the debate (and I say this as someone who prefers Nadal but really likes both and sees them as the 2 best ever). If he becomes the first player in the open era to win each slam twice or was to somehow do something at Wimbledon again (say, he won at least 2 of another 3 slams away from Roland Garros) then the debate becomes more interesting.

I actually agree with you regarding goat, that post was him getting nineteen GS wins.
Doubtful. The only reason Federer and Nadal are outperforming this year is because everyone else is injured or taking time off. If you add an in form Djokovic and Murray back into the mix, combined with all the other new players who are agitiating for success, then its not so simple for either Fed or Nadal to win.

I don't think anyone other than a fit and motivated djokovic can stop Nadal at the French for the next couple of years.

That's assuming Rafa continues playing well and no other players challenge him. New players always emerge. For all we know, a new dominant clay court player could be 17-18 years old right now and about to make his mark at RG.

If Nadal is fit then nobody is going to stop him at the French. Peak Djokovic couldn't and Murray has no chance.

That's true but unlikely. Tbf I was expecting the next generation of tennis players to take over from the top three by now so who knows.

If Djoko doesn't get back to his best, no one is close to Nadal on clay.

5-2 Rafa. Break and serve first would be nice!

Nadal is in his 30s, so there are no guarantees he will be the dominant player at the French indefinitely. He could win another French, or he could never win another again. To presume he will just keep winning them is pretty nonsensical as even the most dominant players suddenly stop winning their best tournaments. Sampras for example won 7 Wimbledons between 93 and 2000 and afterwards never made it past the 4th round. It happens to everyone.

Come on, just admit you are anti-Nadal. You have been pouring scorn on every comment that is remotely pro-Nadal.

Nadal just won the French this year without dropping a set. It's completely logical to assume he can still win 1-2 more Roland Garros. And I would like to see that magical 17-18 wonder kid on clay that you are hoping to break through. The only wonder kid I can see is Rublev and Nadal just took him to the cleaners on hard court.

Credit has to go to Moya.

Nadals serve this season has been brilliant. Only time he has struggled this season was when Moya wasn't by his side in quite a few masters events and Wimbledon.

Somehow not being a pro-Rafa fanboy who is 100% sure Rafa will break Fed's slam record is now being construed as being anti-Nadal. It isn't. Players eventually stop dominating at Tennis and new ones come along and take over. It has literally happened to every big player in the history of Tennis.

Do suggest which player can touch nadal on clay next year other than a peak djokovic?

That's not what everyone is saying though is it? You had multiple post even before this match begin anti-Nadal.

Its hard to say who will be playing well 3 months from now, much less a year or two from now. Not giving a name is however not a free license to engage in delusional fantacism that Rafa will continue winning French Opens until indefinitely. It always ends.

Of course it will end eventually but unlikely in the next year or 2.

No names just means you are just hoping it will ends rather than thinking logically. You can admit that.

@Raoul might not hate dislike Nadal but his posts always have so many subtle Nadal digs.

I always give Rafa his due. The only time I push back is when people irrationally presume he will continue winning slams and catch Federer. Therefore its not me who is anti-Nadal (I'm clearly not), its the deluded souls who think Nadal is going to keep winning slams until he catches Federer. For all we know, Federer could win another one next year and Rafa not win any. Its pointless to predict as we don't know the conditions by which next year's tennis will be played. A big player or two could have major injuries, or all could be in top form.

Feel free to add something remotely substantive to the discussion than attempting to get others to admit what you think is in their minds.

No one is saying Nadal will keep winning RG till the end of time. Rational thought would suggest there isn't anyone right now who can really challenge there. Djoko at his peak maybe and Thiem but that's it really.

I'd say if Djokovic is back at his best then I don't see Federer winning another slam. I do see Nadal though. Nadal dealt with Djokovic at his peak unlike Fed and there's not a big age gap between the two.

For what it's worth, as a staunch Nadal fan who has watched him since he won his first French, I don't think he will catch Roger. Nadal is just not consistent enough on hardcourts and grass. Roland Garros is the only Slam he got a high chance of winning in the next 2 years and sadly that's not enough.

So you can relax.

We just don't know. You can never extrapolate that a player who is in form in the present will continue to replicate that form in the future. There are far too many variables at play. Next year, I am expecting the new younger players to kick up their games a notch and start making deeper incursions into the slams, and I wouldn't surprised to see one of them make a final or even win one.

Your consistent faith in the kids is admirable it must be said.

Aren't we already expecting that this year? And it's still all Rafa & Roger.

I think it's more hope than prediction for us Nadal fans, I don't see why us hoping he catches up annoys you so much?

For me, saving the distances Federer-Nadal could be compared to Messi-Cristiano.
One of them has more natural talent and would have to lead the historical classification, but the other, because of his ambition, physical and mental strength has managed to match their sport duel so much that in 20 years there will still be fans of Rafa and fans of Roger.
Nadal is a tennis player, but if he had wished he could have been a decent footballer, or a handball player, it does not matter.
He is a very modest person and had always a very spartan way of life where surrender is not admissible.
I think it was Connors who said that Nadal played every match as if he were ruined.
In my case, I am completely biased, I adore Nadal and I think sometimes his tennis quality has been underestimated

Nadal isn't bad for a clay court specialist though eh? Most hard court finals of any player this year. On the verge of his 6th Slam outside his favorite surface. 3 Slam finals for the year.

Aren't we already expecting that this year? And it's still all Rafa & Roger.

The kids are still a year or two off imo. They will get much better over the next 12-24 months at at time when Federer and Nadal are obviously going to see a massive degradation in their games.

Your consistent faith in the kids is admirable it must be said.

Or it's just blind faith hoping the kids will prevent nadal from winning more slams to catch Federer.

Because if Nadal caught up then Federer won't be the GOAT anymore. Perfectly understandable for a Federer fan, but don't sit back and take the moral high ground trying to pretend he's not anti-Nadal when it's obvious he is.

This again ?
