The interviewer is utter rubbish. Annoying way of speaking and that creepy smile. Awful questions as well.

Is that Tom Rinaldi ? He creeps out a lot of the women players with his long drawn out questions that ask them to divulge their inner most emotions to the world.

The thing is he's not light years ahead. Djokovic has been beating or at least equalling him on clay since 2011 or so. It's still his biggest chance of winning Slam but it's like Roger on grass nowadays, still very good and guaranteed to go deep if fit but not invincible.

Djokovic beat Nadal at Roland Garros once. ONCE.

Nadal has 5 FOs since 2011. Djokovic has 1.

If that's your definition of beating or equaling then tennis's not for you.

This has been the last Grand Slam of Toni Nadal helping/training Rafa. Moyá is a big help for Rafa but I wonder who will take his uncle´s place now

Their record on clay since 2011 is 7-6 in favour of Djokovic. 2-1 at FO for Nadal. Hardly outrageous to suggest that Nadal can lose to a fit Nole there.

You are acting weirdly aggressive. I deal in facts. I have had Nadal winning comfortably all tournament when his fanboys in this thread were worried.

Francisco Roig will probably be his secondary coach. He has been there for some events this season.

Yes definitely Djokovic is the closest challenger to Nadal on clay. You are comparing Novak's at his peak to Nadal at his average-worst years. And Nadal is still 2-1 at FO.

No guarantees Novak can get back to his amazing 2011-2012 form either.

An astute observation. People tend to get a bit wound up when their favorite player isn't worshipped by everyone in the room.

So read my original post again when I said just that. My point was and is that there are too many variables to say Nadal or Roger will win this and that with the volatile nature of the ATP atm.

Or perhaps by some people sprouting nonsense that a 1-time French Oepn winner is a better on clay than a 10-time French Open winner?

Your original post said that djokovic is the best player across all surface, even clay, which is not true?

Who knows ? Rafa could be a bit off next year and Djokovic could be back in good form, at which point it won't matter if someone won 1 or 10 - what will matter is whether they are in form at that specific time. We simply don't know what is going to play out next year.

At the moment, if he's fit.

16 months ago he held all 4 Slams. No one is saying he's the all time best player on clay.

It's not a hard concept to grasp.

It's 3-1 since 2011.

Nadal beat him in 12, 13 & 14.

Absolute legends both of them, all GS won between them after 11 years. Younger fans who missed this rivalry got to witness it a decade later, why can't regular old time tennis watchers appreciate this?

Yes, probably. Moyá can help him in technical issues but the role of Toni went beyond tennis

The year he lost to Djokovic he had his worst season. He was terrible and @wr8_utd will tell you that. He lost to Murray on clay and won no clay titles.

But the previous years he held off Djokovic well.
Yeah everyone saw that defeat to Djoko coming a long way away. Djoko always does trouble Rafa on clay though even if he can't beat him too often. If Rafa plays how he did this year at RG though, he'll beat anyone. He played some of his best ever Clay court tennis this season. Stand had ONE BP against him in the Final.

Djokovic is finished lads, more chances of him retiring than beating Rafa at Roland Garros. Maybe he would just skip the tournament like some Goats

He's not better on clay, that's obvious.
Novak is definitely better on hardcourts and maybe grass, but not clay. Just because he hold all 4 slams 16 months ago and won 1 FO doesn't mean he's better on clay than the GOAT on clay.

36 year old GOATs can skip whichever tournaments they want. They are after all the GOAT and aren't interested in chasing slams anymore.

It's arguable either way. I'm leaning towards a slight edge to Djokovic since he is 4-2 against Nadal in their last 6 meetings and 1 apiece at RG. You can say it's not representative of their whole career's H2H but then again Fed is 4-0 against Nadal in their last 4 meetings.

Players age and become prone to the big upsets, injuries and losing their edge in their preferred surface. It's no shame.

I consider myself so fortunate to be able to see Nadal, the greatest of all time, play in all these matches. Truly GOAT. What an athlete. Power. technique, class, endurance, style, desire, the inner fight. He has it all. Been following his career since 2004 and to see him reach these heights is marvellous. Couldn't be happier for him. Favourite player.

Would love it if Nadal overtook Federer (winning 2-3 more non clay Slams) along the way just to see the lengths to which Fed fans would try defend his GOAT status.
Also, clay court specialist Rafa Nadal has as many non clay Slams as Becker and Edberg got on all surfaces and just one behind McEnroe. Ofcourse if you feel like it then you can go and add his RG titles

He's a great player. We are fortunate to see Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic play in the same era, which I doubt will be replicated for a long time.

skipping FO this year probably helped Roger won Wimbledon. I can understand though, why take part in a slam when you have no chance of winning when there is one you have a high chance of winning just a month later?

Nadal faced Djokovic at his worst in about 5 of those meetings.

Lucky for Novak that he only met Nadal once this year as he would have been beaten soundly.

Federer deserves credit for all three of those wins these year. I don't think Rafa played bad in any of the three matches.

I just hope Rafa decides to give the Asia swing a miss this year. I know him and Fed are joining forces for a Europe vs rest of the world tournament later this month.

I'm not a Fed fan per say. I just respect his accomplishment in becoming the GOAT. If Nadal overtakes him then he will be the GOAT and I will gladly defend him as such against a deluge of fanboys who claim the next player on the list is better than him.

When you're 36 it just makes common sense to pace yourself. It was clear Federer wasn't going for a grand slam so why bother playing his weakest tournament when he could've rested instead.
