Kid is being too emotional. Played some beautiful shots peppered with a ton of UEs.
At least he's getting his serves in now. Baby steps.

Even Fed's had quite a rubbish draw though tbh. Tiafoe, Youzny, Lopez and Kohlschreiber is tougher than Rafa's but all people you expect Fed to beat witout breaking sweat. But yeah he's lucky in a way he's had some tough matches.Nadal looking strong against bums to be fair. But that's what he needs to get through the first few rounds sometimes....at least DelPo/Fed have some competition in their runs so far. Probably all adds up to a top semi though, so no biggie. Just brutal this draw.
Fed was wank in his first two matches, created his own 'competition'. Nadal had slightly weaker opponents thus far but it's quite negligible tbh.Nadal looking strong against bums to be fair. People paying good money for this match weeks in advance must be pretty miffed.
It's good match practice really. He got through it and found his form as the tournament went along.Yeah, bet he's over the moon that he had to play two five setters already in which he looked knackered at times.
Genuinely the worst Major QF I've ever seen. Not an ounce of thrill or tension, for which Nadal is not to blame, he did his job.
You non german speakers are missing out on some stellar commentary by Boris Becker. Not verbatim (pretty much all his contributions are like this):
Stach (main commentator): Nadal and Federer have never met at the US Open. Will it happen this time?
Becker: Federer and Nadal have been playing each other so often but they've never met at the US Open. We will see if it happens this time.
Get a grip. These blowouts in quarters have happened a lot....check, probably like 8 of Nadal's French wins. Hell some of his finals. And it's not exactly exclusive to Nadal, Federed has Federer'd pretty much everyone else everywhere else at some point too. And I remember Novak smashing Cilic barely two years ago in a semis...
It's not about it being a blowout, it's about being a blowout that is also devoid of entertainment. The match was dead after Rublev got broken in the first game, he looked defeated then and there.
As I said, it felt like a 2nd round match, not because Rublev generally is 2nd round quality, but because he played awful.
CoCo winning today must be the biggest upset of the tournament so far
Again, nothing remotely new. The French Open when Federer was obliterated was over before it started, but it's a non-issue because well it's Federer? Of course....but all the ranked 10-XX's that Federer, Nadal, Djoko and maybe on the more minor occasion Murray have blown past without a hint of drama is the same. At least this kid has his insane lack of experience to use as the obvious excuse, plenty of big names with wins over the big four have still completely given up clearly after the first break...no excuse for some of them. The French was at one point just a case who gets to Nadal wins from the rest of the field at one point.
Looks like Fed has broken Del Potro on the mental side of things
No he hasn't.
Del Potro first serve percentages has dropped and Federer has upped his.
Del Potro was always going to drop it from 76% but the issue is he's dropped it to 46% or whatever.
Yes he has. They were dead even in the first set give or take a couple of points, and now Fed has more or less taken over. In Tennis, you break people mentally and they start making shot errors.
Del Potro was broken only once last set. Not like he was broken 3 times. You are once again going away in the future. Let's wait and see the next set to see if Federer has broken him mentally. If Federer runs away with it then he's got the match.
Del Potro also asked for the doctors.
Rubbish from Federer. I can't see winning this if it's going to 5. Nor can I see him winning if he's going to play this poorly when being close to being broken.
Looking bad for him now.
I'm talking strictly about the 2nd set. Who knows what will happen in the next 2-3. But once Federer takes over mentally, its generally difficult for the opponent to reestablish their previous momentum.
