We might get lucky sticking a note on Del Potro making the final tbh. He has a clear run prior to semi with the best he meet being Batista Agut and Lopez (who Fed will most likely lose to). Otherwise it'd be a Nadal Cilic final.

I wouldn't write Federer off just yet. Lopez is his pigeon and in really bad form this year (let alone being his peer). Delpo or Agut vs Federer would be a test tho.

Lopez won Queens then tanked Wimbledon. I wouldn't say he's in bad form tbh, he also just got through Verdasco fairly easily.

Fed as he is is just staving off the inevitable. First serve in sub 70 most of the time is just horrid, and his backhand is gone with this back issue. Two of his most important weapons.

Yeah I agree he looks bad and something is troubling him, but losing to Lopez seems really crazy.

Federer lose to Lopez? He's another Fed bunny (12-0). Nick was the one man in the Fed quarter I'd have put money on beating this version of Fed but with him gone he should make it deep.
Also Del Po has one tough game against Thiem.

Fed's 4R is easy. Kohlschrieber or Millman (world number 235)

The bottom half of the draw is ridiculous. Cilic (5), Isner (10), Querrey (17), Pouille (16) and Mischa (23) the only seeds left and only one of Isner, Querrey and Mischa makes it through 4R.

Is Monfils injured? Why is he struggling with Donald Young of all people.

Prior to today Fed's H2H with Youzhny was 15-0, the latter taking a set off him only 3 times.

Laugh away...
Fed is pretty good against big servers. Youzhny has a ground game to disrupt his rhythm. Lopez does not. Half fit Federer should beat 35 years old Lopez.

Monfils and Young were both injured apparently. He won finally 7-5 in the fifth.

John Isner is the bookies 4th favorite to win the USO. It's a really really poor year for quality on the mens side (Fed, Nadal apart)

He's good against big servers because he can take care of his own serves while slicing and passing them on theirs. If he serves against Lopez like he did today, he'll get flattened.

Let's see I guess. My prediction is straight sets 6-3,7-6,6-4.

@wr8_utd you sound like a Liverpool fan when it comes to Fed vs Nadal. When Nadal wins, he's amazing, when Fed wins, his opposition was a joke.

This Federer will be thrashed by anyone who knows how to hold serve.

Hard to see federer winning this USO. He's 35 and has played 10 sets in the first two rounds while playing poorly and not looking like he's found his form in time for the tournament.

You may be on to something. I have a feeling the tournament may go to a young upstart this time.

Should have broken Daniel in that game game. Too many errors from Rafa though at important times.

Nadal broken again. I swear I seen a rerun of a similar match 20 times. Rafa just way too passive.

Some good stuff to take the set. Daniel still looking competitive, so still wary.

5-2 in the 4th set, that should be a wrap for Nadal. Daniel looking gassed now, but gave a good performance I felt. Though after Rafa broke back in the 2nd set set, he's been fairly comfortable.

This has been an awful year of grand slams. So little quality across the board. Let's hope Djokovic is fully fit and motivated next year. These young talents aren't really all that.

Federer and Nadal have been higher standard bearers of the game then Djokovic and Murray (lol) so I don't see that the quality being that low. Yes those two would definitely add to the competition but seeing things in a positive light, while they're not winning slams, this time in the spot light may benefit these young ones to achieve big things in the future. People need to be a bit patient with them. Federer was crap at 19/20 as well.

Djokovic's loss of motivation is quite clearly a big loss to the game.

Also, not sure what Federer you were watching but he most certainly wasn't crap at 19/20. By the time he was 19 he had already shown more in grand slams than the likes of Kyrgios, Zverev, Dimitrov. At 20 he had already won a grand slam ffs.

I still hold out hope for Zverev but the other two are complete write offs. Kyrgios is a biggest disappointment given he's probably the biggest talent of the 3. Zverev has shown nothing in grand slams whatsoever so far to inspire any confidence though.

The Australian Open final was magnificent though, especially that final set.

The year started well with Australia and some quality matches but the RG and Wimbledon were unbelievably non compeititve. So far, Nadal and Federer have kept the standard high but here even those two are sort of struggling a bit.

Federer turned 22 when he won his first slam and went on to dominate and be number one the year after that. Before that he was often regarded as bottler at slams too. So he hasn't shown more than Zverev really, who has done fine so far and will only get better.

They won't listen. Anyone who's not a slam Finalist at 19 is hopeless, apparently.
Instead of praising Rublev for beating one of the favorites in Dimitrov, people say the Young Players suck and won't amount to anything because Zverev crashed out. Baffling.

6 of the top 10 players are missing. Nobody said he had to make the final, I think you need to read what people are saying. When that amount of players are missing the minimum he should be doing is making the second week.

Oh Del Potro, Murray, Nadal, Djokovic and hundreds more made second weeks of slams at 19. Del Potro won the damn thing at the same age. The fact Zverev has made it past the second week once so far in his career is poor. He still lost out to a half fit Rainic who has been injured a lot this year when he did do it.

Possibly the worst mens draw in over a decade and it's not wrong to expect the number 4 seed to make it in the second week.

This is a field with ALL the top players other than Fed and Nadal missing, John Isner is a Top 10 player so the least you can expect is atleast a credible performance from the kids. Maybe atleast reach the QF? They're all out before the 4th Round and that's really poor. Zverev is the World Number 4 and he's never beaten a Top 50 player at a Slam. He might be young but he has to do better with such an easy draw.

At 21 actually. So we're both wrong.

However he had still quite comfortably shown a lot more than Zverev has to date. Zverev has yet to beat anyone of note in a grand slam or even make the quarters. There's no comparison.

Zverev has a 13-14 record in Slams
