Shitty time for Fed to get back issues. Clearly not 100%. Don't think he would have played this tournament if the draw wasn't as wide open as it is.

He'd have played regardless. At his age every chance at Slam matters, if this doesn't work out then take the rest of the year off.

Lopez is much tougher than Youzhny and with him already playing 2 5 setters should he goes through, there isn't really any chance.

couple of break points in. Short balls, Youzhny cramping, zero drop shots by Federer, yet averaged 2-3 in the opening set in the first games... :wenger:

Whatever happens, well done Youzhny. Big balls on him to stay in this.

Terrible match this but one hell of an effort from Youzhny in this fifth set. Utter shit from Fed since the end of the first set, injury or no injury it's the worst I've seen him in a long time.

Just can't stand these crowds in Federer matches. Cheering a Youzhny error and then silent when he hits an ace. Then booing the chairumpire for a call because it was against Fed.

End of the first set is a bit harsh. The cracks showed a bit at the beginning of the 2nd but he was fine until the racquet change in the 9th game.

She deserved it to be honest. Terrible call. On BP as well. The ball landed right in Youzhny's feet he could've easily challenged.

Anyway this match is done now. Never really doubted it even at the end of the 3rd set.

you can stick a fork in him, he's done. Big, big props for sticking up there after the cramp.

Fed did it in the Aussie Open and it swung momentum his way. Smart move
Every players do it now and then. Djoker is the one abusing it the most out of all top players.

You can tell Youzhny's was genuine though, he looked tense and was popping all sorts even before that MTO:

Nick Kyrgios won in the doubles today. He had to win just 3 matches and he'd have had a shot at a wounded Federer. He really had a great chance to go deep in this Slam for once.

Novak and also Rafa just get called out for it more often but a lot of players do it. It's almost always tactical rather than any genuine concerns.

The US open should hire Jim Courier to do the on court interviews.

Talk about making things difficult for yourself. I genuinely thought Roger wasn't going to make it through this match.
At the rate he's throwing in the unforced errors, I expect him to lose very soon.:(

Novak get called out on it because he used to do that a lot, literally one moment you see him lying courtside getting a massage and the next he's jumping and stretching like a horny rabbit.

No one really likes it, but it's galling when blatantly done. Although at the rate players are dropping, you might have to reconsider your statement.

Just seen that Dimitrov lost! Absolute state of his inconsistency. Looked good in Cincinnati and I thought he'd turned a corner but just the same old:rolleyes:

For the Aus final, I saw it off and on till 1-3 in the 5th.
Best ever news to wake up to.
Please just watch every Fed match here on...

Blatant or not, you just know when they're faking it. It's a rule to be exploited and to halt momentum and it does it's damage most of the time. Yeah this year a lot of players do look pretty injured though.

I really wish the 3 Fedal matches hadn't happened this year and I'd have some confidence incase they do meet. Now I've got none in this match up
I don't know to be honest. Before the American HC swing I was pretty sure Fed would straight set Nadal if they meet at Flushing. Now with that back and the opening two matches feels odd. I see Federer going round his BH way too often and this was one of the main weapons against Nadal this year. Would be interesting match.

Thiem just saved 3 set points in the 4th.
