Missed the final today. Wanted Venus to win, but I did think she needed to take the first set.

I think it's the same for tomorrow. First set is crucial, especially for Cilic.

Djokovic can definitely be back. He's at his absolute worst right now and he still looks better than all players on tour apart from Nadal and Federer. I don't know if that says much about the current field but if he even improves 20%, he can easily dominate the field again once RF and RN fall off again. He definitely has 2-5 Slams in him imo purely down to the lack of any sort of real depth in the mens field right now.

I'd go one step further - apart from Nadal I think Cilic is the worst match up for Federer on grass.
Yeah it's certainly not the gimme some seem to think. Fed has been breezing through this tournament and would be incredible if he could pull of two slams this year though.

He has a Slam or two left in him if he can find the motivation again but more than that is stretching it. You dont win that many once you are past 30. Consistency becomes a big issue.

You are a terrible gambler, dont do it.
Bitch please! :smirk:

I might not be the best gambler, but I'm certainly not the worst! I've correctly predicted Trump would win the 2016 US Presidential election, Brexit, Man Utd to win the Europa League and Germany to win the FIFA Confederations Cup and I've made a pretty tidy profit on these outright winners, if you actually bother to look up the betting thread and see my history.

With that being said, Federer will most likely lose to Cilic tomorrow and you can use this against me, because everytime I post a pending bet, I ALWAYS lose.

Terrible tennis gambler then. Dumping any sort of money on Djoko now is clearly not a smart move.

It's funny how Federer fans always find the need to downplay Djokovic at any opportunity. Djokovic is only 29 and he still has a few more years of window to regain his dominance. The ATP tour is still weak, in spite of what you hear about the promising up-and-coming players who are just mental midgets. As wr8_utd has pointed out, Djoker is at his absolute worst now yet he still look far better than any players bar Nadal and Federer. Nadal is 31 and Federer is 35, they can only play for so much longer.

You can say whatever you want but at the end of the day, it's the profit that counts in gambling. If Federer wins Wimbledon, I still profit 1.3k. Get over it.

Err it's just banter man. You seem quite wound up for someone about to make a tidy profit

This is just weird tbh. You seem to have some sort of chip on your shoulder. Facts remain that since the Open era, players past 30 don't win much, let alone multiple Slams. Stating the fact is not 'downplaying Djokovic at any opportunity'. Sure, he can do a Federer and reinvent himself, but an up and coming talent no one heard of may appear, one of the young guys may step up and dominate the tour, or he continues his slump and fades away as players past their peak often do due to injuries and burn out. There are just too many variables and most of it unfavourable. You think Federer fans enjoy seeing him lose to players like Berdych, Tsonga etc quite often from 2010 onwards, or going out at Wimbledon to an unseeded player in 2013? Father Time waits on nobody.

Yes I agree you don't win much past 30 but the problem is, right now, the field is not really that great in terms of quality and depth so once Nadal and Fed do fall off this level/retire, who will even be there to challenge? Djoko would need to get to around even 60% of his level from last Jan-May and he'd be comfortably ahead of the pack.
Finding the motivation might not be the easiest thing to do for him though.

Lot of respect for MullerUtd to be fair, at least he's open about his bets PRIOR to them happening. Half the people who blag on about their wins never show their bets, so I doubt a lot of them.

He wasn't even at his best between last Jan-May. I know he won two slams vs Murray. But I thought last year even early parts there were signs he was starting to lose his edge. It just got worse after the french open final.

Obviously he can come back. He just needs a break. Yeah his game wouldn't be suited to someone in their 30s, but everyone was saying that about Rafa. What Rafa has done is get a new coach, improve his serve and kept points a lot shorter. Djokovic needs to get a new coach. Agassi isn't probably the long term solution due to his other commitments.

Tennis is changing regarding the mens side. It's going to be a long time before we see a Becker or Nadal coming along winning slams straight away and challenging the top rankings. When the big four don't win a tournament then it is usually one of the other older players who wins it. I mean Feliciano Lopez at 35 won Queens.

The Nishikori, Dimitrov and Raonic generation ain't going to do anything. Thiem ain't winning the French whilst Rafa is still near or at his best. Zverev and Kyrgios have a chance on hard courts, but seem to exit grand slams before the quarters.

I find all 3 of them awful players tbh. Kei has enough talent but is either always injured or just doesn't have the mental strength to win and the lesser said about the likes of Raonic and Dimi the better. You're right we won't really see players coming in and winning Slams in their teens anymore. Maybe once Fed/Rafa/Djoko are gone but even in their 30s those guys are comfortably better than the rest and that's a little worrying for mens tennis.

The way Dimitrov's career has panned out so far is particularly disappointing since mistakes could easily have been avoided. Can't blame him for wanting to bang Sharapova or Scherzinger but the circus clearly affected him in arguably the most important years in a player's career.

I still have hope for Kyrgios, but he needs to find something like a life coach and whip himself into shape. However, at this rate he'll turn out another Tomic. The response to Ken Rosewall's criticism the other day was juvenile.

Raonic is bang average. Kyrgios and Nishikori are very talented but one is always injured while the other is a very undisciplined player on and off court. I don't hold out much hope out for either tbh. I hope Kyrgios does turn around though. He's great to watch when he's on his game.

Aye me too. Most likely he won't have a better career than Zverev or probably even Khachanov but he does look as the most rounded player of the lot and most fun to watch.

Cilic won in five in my dream last night, I fear we could see a similar result for real.

Cilic bouncing the ball 37 times per serve is irritating me.

I don't get why he got first serve after that challenge instead of the point. Surely that was a winning serve? Sloppy start in any case.

He has a lot more to his game when on form than any of the others and once the Top 4 go, he could pick up some slams.

Some big hitting from Cilic. Don't think we have to worry about going to five if he keeps this up.

So typical of these players. Can't take advantage of their own BP and go tamely give it away in the very next game. This will be done in under 2 hours.
