This feels like one those moments when the older generation is getting pushed out in favor of a newer, emerging dominant player.

Who is the favourites for this? I have €10 on Venus before the start of this tournament, can't believe she really made it this far.

When Serena isn't playing I find it almost impossible to pick a winner on the women's side. Venus obviously always has a run in her but looks like she hasn't got that edge here today.

Ostapenko and Muguruza probably have the most talent of the younger crop but they've still got big inconsistencies to address (Ostapenko especially has so much ability but plays such a high risk game). The one pleasing thing about Muguruza in this tournament is how much she's cared, I haven't always got the impression that she's that bothered when she's lost at times but hopefully this fortnight is the start of her becoming more consistent. It is great seeing the likes of Serena, Venus, Federer and Nadal (albeit he is younger) still doing it but the sport does need new great players to step up.

Muguruza looks like the sort of player who could win a lot of slams. Good on clay, good on grass, and probably good on hard as well.

She's not good on hard, hurts her ranking quite a lot given how much of the tour the hard courts make up. She'll likely improve in time though.

WTA is probably the most unpredictable sports without Serena but I guess its the same for most women sports. Venus William reminds me of Simona Halep, always making a deep run but falling at the last hurdle. Shame.

If she does well on grass then its just a matter of time that she does well on hard. She seems to have all the attributes of an emerging dominant player imo.

Venus needs a double break AND to be flawless in her own serve from this point on, just for the chance of a freakin tie break. Madness.

She's got too many weaknesses to dominate but if she kicks on from this then she could well win a few more in the post-Serena era before Ostapenko et al reach their best.

Just give the trophy to Garbine already...Venus is done here. Is it just me but why is every women grand slam final always so one-sided in recent times? hopefully, we can see something similar tomorrow with Federer on the winning end but I doubt it.

Venus is 37 though. Most players are retired for about 5 years at this point, much less playing in a Wimbledon final. Tremendous accomplishment for her whatever the result.

This isnt even competitive at all. Sad. Did well to get to the final, but you would think one last big effort despite her age.

I completely agree, as I said I'm not sure if the attitude has always been as focused as needed but when she plays like this it's difficult to believe that she hasn't got a lot more slams in her yet.

Wow... wasn't expecting that. Williams just gave up in that second set.

That last point pretty much encapsulated the second set lol
Muguruza is only 23. Needs to push on with this win.

Pro Williams journos already trying to downplay this loss.

She's 37 years old with Sjögren's syndrome. They don't need to downplay it.

The odds were almost identical for either to win, perhaps very very slightly in Venus' favour.

Doesn't take anything away from Muguruza though, she deserved the win.
