Sorry, forgot he had actually dropped. Also, I'm not saying it wouldn't be a remarkable comeback, but to be classified as a "fairy tail", something completely out of the blue and miraculous, it needs a bit more. Federer and Nadal had fairy tail comebacks, going from being written off by fans and pundits alike and not playing at all for a couple of months to winning the first two slams of the season.

Djokovic has also had a remarkably easy ride so far, not one dangerous opponent in 4 rounds.
Perhaps fairy tale comeback isn't the word, but its still a pretty good comeback considering the stick he gets especially from the media talking shite about his personal life and you have ex pros like McEnroe coming out with those comments which is pretty dis-tasteful. I'm pretty sure Federer and Nadal wouldn't get this kind of treatment. When Djokovic wins, people would say its a weak era, Federer and Nadal are declining blah blah. For some reason, most pundits and the crowd never seem to root for Djokovic and he is not really well-liked as compared to Federer and Nadal, or even Murray. Federer and Nadal are often in the GOAT debate but not Djokovic, but people seem to forget that Federer dominated in an era with Andy fecking Roddick who I see as a poor man's Murray.

2011 Djokovic is by far the highest level of tennis I've seen and I've not seen Nadal or Federer coming close to that even at their peak. This isn't a slight on Federer and Nadal, I've been very impressed by their comebacks as well and you know what, I've never written them off, even when Nadal looks finished at one point. He's a fighter and if I have to choose my second favourite player after Nole, its him.

I'm aware of that and that's why I'm not holding my breath yet. Berdych would be a far bigger test than the players Djoker has played so far, but I still expect him to beat Berdych in 3 sets, albeit a tough one; although his form from the past 1 year means nothing is as easy as it seems. His shoulder isn't looking good at the moment and you can see he was visibly aggravated by it and playing 2 days in a row isn't helping; hopefully he can shake off this by tomorrow. Berdych can take this to 4 or 5 sets, it's all mental with him.

Still I expect the semis to be Cilic vs Murray and Federer vs Nole, with the winner of Federer and Nole going on to win the title.

Forgive my ignorance but why does Konta designate as British? I mean in wimbledon it doesn't really matter as she's playing for herself but just interested.
I think its just mandatory to show your nationality for viewership idk? Look at other high-profile sports like Formula 1, they are all competing for their constructors and personal glory which has nothing to do with their nationality.

Roddick and Murray were very different players stylisticall. To call Roddick a poor man's Sampras or something would be fairly inaccurate but at least you could see some similarities i.e. serving. With Roddick and Murray, it's very, very difficult to see what they have in common.

2005/'06 Federer disagrees here.

Even Federer of '11 would disagree with that. He beat him at the FO and had match points and 2-0 set lead at the USO.

He still lost the US open match and Djokovic walked away with 3 slams that year and majority of the masters. Not sure how anybody can say Fed was better than Djokovic that year because he beat him once. That was probably the greatest year I seen from a tennis player.

Federer's performance in the semi-final of the FO in '11 versus Djokovic was incredible. 18 aces against Djokovic at his best on the surface least conducive to hitting aces.

Well yeah Djokovic obviously had a better year. My point is Federer during 04-07 was at another level. Not sure how anyone can say Djokovic was better at any point of his career compared to that Federer.

Even at 30 he beat him at the RG and was 1 point away from taking the USO as well.

Don't get me wrong Djokovic had an amazing season, but if he was up against peak Federer he most likely would've won zero slams that year.

Yeah of course, not saying otherwise, but it was a bit lesser version of him, although that performance was close to his peak level.

In 06 Rome for example he took peak Nadal to 5 sets in Rome, won more points than him and should have beaten him on that day. That's the best I've seen Fed on clay. Nadal was 4-2 down in the 5th and saved 2 MP's to claw back and win in from memory. During that time Nadal was well in his 81 winning run on clay.

How much differently did/does Rome play from Roland Garros? Was it conceivable that Federer could've beaten Nadal at RG in '06 had he played as well as he did in Rome?

Rubbish article. Federer is the best grass court player ever and 7 times Wimbey champion. Whether some like it or not he's also the most watched player and sells out wherever he goes. He has that center court guaranteed in the same sense Sampras had it before.

Murray is at home and also #1 and defending champion. Nadal hasn't made it past the QF's since 5-6 years, whilst Djokovic is in poor form this year and #6 in the singles race...

You're telling me Djokovic and Nadal can't guarantee full houses? There's no way Nadal won't have Centre Court packed for his match.
Murray and Federer deserve to be on Centre Court with one being the defending champion and the latter being the greatest Grass courter ever. Not sure what Konta is doing on centre court for every round though, when the likes of Nadal and Djokovic were pushed to the outside courts.

There is a strong argument for bias.

Nadal absolutely owns the French Open and even then he's shifted off Centre court. He's played almost 20 career matches at RG off centre court. There is indeed a lot of bias at Wimbledon for Federer and Murray.

Hand on heart, can you tell me between Federer vs Dimitrov and Nadal vs Muller, which is the more attractive match on paper?

This 'favouring' talk is just small time.

You think Murray Paire would be more attractive than Nadal Muller? There is obvious bias towards Federer and Murray at Wimbledon and it's sad that happens for the so called greatest Slam.
How Djoko didn't get moved to CC yesterday and had to have his match pushed to today is another mystery. They claimed "safety issues" and yet had no issues moving today's Court 1 game to CC.
Djoko will have to play 3 matches in 4 days if he makes it to the semis because Wimbledon wouldn't do the correct thing and move his match to CC last night. There's absolutely no chance they'd have made Murray or Fed shift their match to the next day if Centre Court was free and available.
Also apparently for tomorrow's schedule, Querrey had been told it's a possiblity he'll be playing Murray on Court 1 but yet again they've put that match and Federer on CC and put Novak out on C1 for his QF. He's playing the second QF on C1 and there's weather forecast of rain so there's always a chance he'll be delayed again
There just are different rules for Murray and Fed here and that's what Toni and even Rafa said yesterday. They should spread out the games on CC a bit more evenly.

Rome plays quite similar to Paris I think but nah, I doubt any level Federer played at was ever good enough to beat Nadal at RG. He's never managed more than a set against him in all of their meetings there. It was just unbelievably one sided.

This. Djoko that year is the best I've seen any of Fed or Nadal do. Federer's 05-07 ish peak years in a field with no one in it isn't as impressive as Djoko for me. Djoko needs around 3 more Slams to get in the GOAT discussion.

When Federer lost in 4 at the RG he said in an interview that the conditions in Rome were faster that year(06), which obviously help him.

To be honest from observation Rome has a lower bounce than Paris, as during RG the conditions are pretty hot in the Summer, but the bounce is higher. There's also Chatrier being a lot bigger court than Rome which makes it seem slower as peak Nadal there would chase and get to more balls which is a huge advantage to him.

Generally the condition should be the same, although Rome has always been faster (Sampras won there in the mid 90's), Roddick made the SF's etc. Madrid and Rome are in higher altitude compared to courts that are sea level - MC, Barcelona, which makes the condition better for Federer and worse for Nadal. MC is by far the slowest court out there but also has a pretty high bounce which makes it perfect for Nadal.

Hamburg used to be very low bouncing court and Federer thrived there, especially in damper conditions(where he ended Nadal's streak and bagelled him in the 3rd).

All in all is combination of multiple factors - Chatrier being much bigger court that allows players to get to more balls, hotter conditions which allow higher bounce and again players to get to more balls(albeit ball goes faster through the air generally), it's best of 5 throughout the tournament not just final, so it rewards more grinders and Nadal excels in that (not that Federer is not fit mind). I've also heard, but not 100% sure of that, Chatrier has limestone base under the clay which is extremely hard and again adds to that higher bounce.

They will of course, but Federer has always generates more interest and of course more viewers as the TV operators usually show the centre court.

Surprise surprise, Murray and Federer at Center Court today, Djokovic again at No. 1. Plus London weather forecast looks crap.

If you bothered to read my very next post, I said exactly the same about Murray, but what can you do about a British tournament favouring a British player? It's a given any player should expect and moaning about it is still small time.

I agree the match should have been moved, but given how the Nadal-Muller match played out I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. It'd be quite late by the time it'd be moved and they'd have to relocate the crowd into CC should they wish to as well, alongside any who has CC ticket. Regardless. it should have been worked out.

All in all, it comes down to TV/audience draw and fixture. If we take Murray out of the equation since he's obviously granted some privileges, even from purely a fixture perspective, I don't think anyone can argue that Fed's fixtures don't warrant more merit to be on CC than Novak's or Nadal's.

Perhaps people don't understand how much bigger draws Federer and Murray are at Wimbledon, particularly compared to Djokovic. Nadal's obviously the third favourite but given his record here in recent years he can't have too many complaints. Djokovic just isn't popular enough to warrant Centre Court over a seven-time champion, one of the most popular athletes of all time, possibly on his farewell tour and the British defending champion, currently number one in the world and arguably the greatest British sportsman of all time. When you factor in that there are 4000 more seats in Centre than no. 1 then it's a no-brainer. Djokovic obviously has a right to be miffed about the situation on Monday, even though I don't agree with their decision there was some logic to it at least.

Centre court will sell out regardless.

Plus last time I checked there were TV cameras on court 1. The best solution today would have been to move Murray on court 1. I can see why they put Raonic vs Federer on centre. It's not like they can't televise the Murray match if it's on court 1.

But I'm not arsey about it. At the end of the day Federer and Murray have got more exciting matches than Djokovic today. We all know he's going to stream through Berdych for the 13th time in a row. But on the other hand that's maybe a reason for putting Djokovic on centre as you need a quick match.

During Wimbledon I'm not sure what annoys me more, mcenroe or the constant channel changes. Can't they just have BBC2 as the tennis channel, with additional matches on the red button?

Happy days, no sign (or sound) of Boris - long may it continue :D

Come on Andy!

Cilic really dropped off in the second half of that set. Muller's started pretty well though, hope he's got enough left for a few more sets.

Can't see him winning another 5 setter if this goes to the distance.

How is Murray playing? Out for dinner now.

Was 4-1 with Querey serving next when I caught a glimpse.
He's doing quite well. Querrey has upped his game since the start but Murray has been in complete control in his own service and is hitting the ball well. Looks like a straight-setter to me.

Murray's attitude getting in his way again. He had the match in the palm of his hand but it seemed like that second serve he thought was out on a break point threw him off completely. He even won the game so it shouldn't have mattered. Self-destruction and game on. Intriguing.

Broke Querey immediately next set so it seems he got over the hump.

Hope this goes to 5 set
