Tennis 2015

Us Yanks are firmly behind Federer. He's having to do a hell of a lot of running just to maintain pace though. I doubt he can sustain it.

I still have the bad feeling that Federer will be almost-bageled near the end of this match.

What is going to happen to tennis once these guys retire? Ridiculous tennis all around.

I cannot believe Fed is 1-2 down a break. Should be 3-1 up ffs. Weird piss-taking from him in that Novak service game too. Would love Fed to get another, but Novak is such a supreme athlete that you have to fancy him winning 3-1 or 3-2 at a push.

Woah that Fed service game...topsy-turvy match. Need to go to bed though, got a shitload on tomorrow.

Still struggling to see Federer being able to get through 5 sets without some big drop off for a few games. If he doesn't win it in 4 that'll be enough for Djokovic to capitalise.

Have they brought in the French Open crowd for this? Almost feel for Djoko with these mugs cheering faults.

Feck, feel the same and worry that is the game that seals it. Aargh, need to go to bed. Got a 16-page section going to press tomorrow and need to write two of them myself.

Federer seems not able to kill it off when the moment presents itself. Novak will pull this back, Federer needs this set to stand any chance.

It is however exceptional

Djokovic is a cockroach of a player. Impossible for anyone to kill him off over five sets these days.

As a huge Federer fan, I cant stand to watch. Having missed his chances in the 3rd (Im following via the guardian mbm), im fairly certain he'll roll over quickly in the 4th. Shame...

This feels a bit like some of the epic Federer-Nadal games. Fed has his chances but isn't taking them enough.

Off to bed. Fed should've won the last set and I think he'd have gone on to win the match.

Yep. All too familiar. Fed's clearly more talented than them but yet he's going to end up having losing records to both of them which seriously undermines his claim of GOAT. Is it a mental thing? Don't think Fed has the same mental strength on the big, big points.

Meh. It is hope, that kills you. I was already giving up after the first set, but (like always) I get dragged back into it by some good spells just to be disappointed.

How will it undermine his claim as GOAT? The fact is at nearly 35 he is better than everyone else bar Djokovic, 10 years ago he'd have buried him if presented with some of the chances he's had tonight. The only way his claim as GOAT is if someone overtakes his slam record.

Defense beating offense. Same as football and baseball in some years recently, with the opposite cycle happening in the NFL or if you're Barcelona.

I think the sheer variety in his game, including stuff like this SABR business, sets him apart enough from the rest in the GOAT discussion that it doesn't have to come down to head-to-head stats. He's a one-off.
