How will it undermine his claim as GOAT? The fact is at nearly 35 he is better than everyone else bar Djokovic, 10 years ago he'd have buried him if presented with some of the chances he's had tonight. The only way his claim as GOAT is if someone overtakes his slam record.
Of course it does. Greatest ever player who couldn't beat his two closest rivals consistently? The question is does his grand slam record compensate for that - I think it does but it's understandable if others don't.
